A Study on the Rotation Accuracy According to Unbalance Variation of High Precision Spindle Unit for Machine Tool (고정밀 회전체의 불평형 변동에 따른 회전정밀도 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The spindle unit is a core part in high precision machine tool. Rotation accuracy of spindle unit is needed for high dignity cutting and improving the performance of machine tool. However, there are many factors to effect to rotational error motion(rotation accuracy). This study studied how rotational error motion is variation when unbalance amount is variation. Rotation accuracy of initial spindle unit is decided depending on parts and assembly such as bearing. When it is rotation, vibration and noise is appeared depending on volume of unbalance amount, so it works to decrease unbalance amount. The purpose of the study tests that unbalance amount how much effects to initial rotation condition. The result of the study shows that accuracy of parts and assembly is highly necessary to reach high rotation accuracy and unbalance amount hardly effects to initial rotation accuracy. However, it shorten spindle's life because vibration and noise is increasing by increasing unbalance amount and we can expect situation that rotation accuracy is falling by long time operation.

A study on the improvement of polishing surface using Oscillation-type tool and AE sensor (요동형 공구와 AE센서를 이용한 연마면 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Die polishing technology is very critical to determine quality and performance of the final products. Generally, the rotation-type tool is used most widely in the polishing process. However it is difficult to make the mirror surface, because the method using the rotation-type tool causes a lot of tiny scratch on the polished surface. This paper proposes a new method using the oscillation-type tool that reduces the scratch and improves the surface roughness. As result. the mirror surface was able to obtain by using the oscillation-type tool. AE is known to be closely related to material removal rate(MRR). As the surface is rougher, MRR gets larger and AE increase. The surface roughness can be indirectly estimated using the AE signal measured during automatic die polishing process. In this study. an AE sensor based monitoring system was developed to investigate the relation the level of AE RMS with the surface roughness during polishing process.

Characteristics of Rotational Vibration of Cutting Edge in Elliptical Vibration Cutting by Modulation of Excitation Frequency (타원궤적 절삭기의 가진주파수에 따른 절삭 날 회전 진동 특성)

  • The direction of the cutting tool plays a critical role in elliptical vibration cutting(EVC) where the cutting tool cuts workpiece in a trochoidal motion. In this study, EVC cutting device was developed using two parallel piezoelectric materials and it was observed that the rotation direction of the tool reverses as the EVC device undergoes resonance at which either flexural(cutting direction) or longitudinal( thrust direction) mode shapes occurs. To analytically explain reversal of the rotation direction, kinematic motion analysis of the tool was modified to incorporate amplification of the vibration amplitude and phase introduced by resonance. It successfully demonstrated, through Matlab simulation, reversal of the rotation direction of the cutting tool as the excitation frequency increases beyond resonance frequencies at which either flexural or longitudinal vibration occurs.

Effects of Tool Rotation and Transition Speed during Friction Stir Welding of Al 7075-T651 Alloy (Al 7075-T651의 마찰교반 용접에 대한 회전속도와 이송속도의 영향)

  • The 7075-T651 Al alloy was welded by friction stir welding. Microstructure, macro behaviors and fracture type in the nugget, thermo-mechanically affected zone(TMAZ) and heat affected zone(HAZ) of the welded part were compared to base metal. The microsturctures of nugget zone were compared with tool rotation speeds and various tool transition speed. When the rotation speeds were decreased and transition speeds were increased, the hardness of nugget zone were decreased. Also, the optimal microstructure was observed at the low rotation speed of 800rpm and the high transition speed of 124mm/min. The transgranular dimple and quasi-cleavage at fractured part of nugget zone were investigated.

  • Shoulder MRArthrography was performed to get an accurate diagnosis about complex anatomical structure in shoulder joint. We carried out how the changes of anatomical rotations in shoulder joint could bring certain diagnosis effects on MRI images for various shoulder humerus positions; Neutral position, Internal rotation position and External rotation position. In addition, we prepared an aid tool in oder to maintain the right posture of a patient. This aid tool was made by adapting Modeling Design Program. By virtue of this aid, we obtained the following result. Shoulder MR Arthrography by the External rotation position for anatomical structure diagnosis was the most suitable in diagnostic evaluations of important anatomical structures in shoulder joint such as Biceps tendon, Supera-spiatus tendon, Sub-scapularis tendon, Labrum and Sub-acromial space.

Effect of Process Parameters on Friction Stir Welds on AA2219-AA2195 Dissimilar Aluminum Alloys (마찰교반접합의 공정변수가 AA2219-AA2195 이종 알루미늄 접합에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the optimum condition of a friction stir welding process for a joint of AA2219-T87 and AA2195-T8 dissimilar aluminum alloys. These alloys are known to have good cryogenic properties, and as such to be suitable for use in fuel tanks of space vehicles. The welding parameters include the travelling speed, rotation speed and rotation direction of the tool. The experiment was conducted under conditions in which the travelling speed of the tool was 120-300 mm/min and the rotation speed of the tool was 400-800 rpm. To investigate the effect of the rotation direction of the tool, the joining was performed by switching the positions of the two dissimilar alloys. After welding, the microstructure was observed and the micro-hardness were measured; non-destructive evaluation was carried out to perform tensile tests on defect-free specimens. The result was that the microstructure of the weld joint underwent dynamic recrystallization due to sufficient deformation and frictional heat. The travelling speed of the tool had little effect on the properties of the joint, but the properties of the joint varied with the rotation speed of the tool. The conditions for the best joining properties were 600 rpm and 180-240 mm/min when the AA2219-T8 alloy was on the retreating side(RS).

Static Stiffness Tuning Method of Rotational Joint of Machining Center (머시닝센터 회전 결합부의 정강성 Tuning 기법)

  • A method has been developed to tune the static stiffness at a rotation joint considering the whole machine tool system by interactive use of finite element method and experiment. This paper describes the procedure of this method and shows the results. The method uses the static experiment on measurement model which is set-up so that the effects of uncertain factors can be excluded. For FEM simulation, the rotation joint model is simplified using only spindle, bearing and spring. At the rotation joint, the damping coefficient is ignored, The spindle and bearing is connected by only spring. By static experiment, 500 N is forced to the front and behind portion of spindle and the deformation is measured by capacitive sensor. The deformation by FEM simulation is extracted with changing the static stiffness from the initial static stiffness considering only rotation joint. The tuning static stiffness is obtained by exploring the static stiffness directly trusting the deformation from the static experiment. Finally, the general tuning method of the static stiffness of machine tool joint is proposed using the force stream and the modal analysis of machine tool.

Evaluation on Tensile Characteristics of Extruded Aluminum Panel Joints by Friction Stir Welding Parameters (마찰교반 용접변수에 따른 알루미늄 압출판재의 인장특성 평가)

  • The changes in the mechanical properties according to the width of the tool shoulder, rotation speed and moving speed in friction stir welding (FSW) are evaluated using Al 6061-T6. The results indicated that the tensile strength value increases with increasing rotation speed. The higher the moving speed of the tool shoulder, the lower the tensile strength, regardless of the tool type. A higher tensile strength value was generally obtained with a tool shoulder diameter of 12mm (TSD12) than with 8mm. When the moving and rotation speeds exceed a limiting value, a stabilization stage is reached, in which (the tool shoulder diameter?) no longer affects the material properties. At a tool shoulder diameter of 8mm (TSD8), the material properties are decreased and the mixture of material in the welding area is incomplete in comparison with the tool type of TSD12. The tensile strength value is decreased at a rotation speed of 1500 rpm. As a result, a rotation speed higher than the threshold value is needed in order for and the transition temperature to be reached, which allows the complete mixing of the material in the welding area.

  • In manufacturing die and mold, polishing: is important as it takes as much as 50% of the production cost. In this research, an attachable type polishing device to a WC machining center was developed. experiments were done with a special1y designed rotation type polishing device. Also an ultra-sonic (vibration type) waving device was introduced to acquire finer surface finishes. From the constructed data base based on the experimental results, it is shown that optimal polishing conditions are generated by the combined use of the rotation type tool and the vibration type tool.
