  • Comparison of shear strength and shear energy of the 48Sn-52In solder bumps reflowed on Cu UBM were made with variations of reflow temperature from $150^{\circ}C$ to $250^{\circ}C$ and reflow time from 1 min to 20 min to establish an evaluation method for the mechanical reliability of solder bumps. Compared to the shear strength, the shear energy of the Sn-52In solder bumps was much more consistent with the solder reaction behavior and the fracture mode at the Sn-52In/Cu interface, indicating that the bump shear energy can be used as an effective tool to evaluate the mechanical integrity of solder/UBM interface.

  • In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of fatigue fracture on TB(Tailored Blank) weldment by comparing the fatigue crack propagation characteristics of base metal with those of TB welded sheet used for vehicle body panels. We also investigated the influence of center crack on the fatigue characteristic of laser weld sheet of same thickness. We conducted an experiment on fatigue crack propagation on the base metal specimen of 1.2mm thickness of cold-rolled metal sheet(SPCSD) and 2.0mm thickness of hot-rolled metal sheet(SAPH440) and 1.2+2.0mm TB specimen. We also made an experiment on fatigue crack propagation on 2.0+2.0mm and 1.2+1.2mm thickness TB specimen which had center crack. The characteristics of fatigue crack growth on the base metal were different from those on 1.2+2.0mm thickness TB specimen. The fatigue crack growth rate of the TB welded specimens is slower in low stress intensity factor range$({\Delta}K)$ region and faster in high ${\Delta}K$ region than that of the base metal specimens.

  • Friction welding has may merits such as energy efficiency, simple processing, etc. but it is difficult to obtain good welding at the welded interfaces and heat affected zone. It is discovered that stress singularity exists at the interferes and heat affected zone. The computer program based on boundary element method is utilized in this study. A mathematical model is implemented based on results from several experiments performed at and around the welded interfaces and heat affected zone of disimilar metals under static and dynamic loadings. This stay is to investigate the characteristics of the deformation and fracture behavior around interfaces for friction welded materials under static tensile load. Also, the stress distribution at the tip of crack is analyzed by using BU based on Kelvin's solution of 2-dimensional binding zone. The results of BEM are identical with those in case of considering interfaces of both heat affected zone. Also, stress singularity at the tip of interfaces appears when the elastic modulus ratio is 1.07.

  • The heat resistant material, in service, may experience static loading, cyclic loading, or a combination of two. An experimental study of crack growth behavior of STS 316L austenitic stainless steel under fatigue, and creep-fatigue loading conditions were carried out on compact tension specimens at various tensile hold times. In the crack growth experiments under hold times. In the crack growth experiments under hold time loading conditions, tensile hold times were ranged from 5 seconds to 100 seconds and its behavior was characterized using the $\Delta$K parameter. The crack growth rates generally increase with increasing hold times. However in this material, the trend of crack growth rates decreases with increasing hold times for short hold time range relatively. It is attributed to a decline in the cyclic crack growth rate as a result of blunting at the crack tip by creep deformation. The effect of grain size on the creep behavior of STS 316L was investigated. Specimens with grain size of 30, 65 and 125${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were prepared through various heat treatments and they were tested under various test conditions. The fracture mode of 316L changed from transgranular to intergranular with increasing grain size.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the effect of joinability by using acoustic emission (AE) signals and doing a pattern recognition for weld heat affected zone (HAZ) in tensile testing. This study was carried out an SWS 490A high tension steel for electric shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), $CO_2$ gas arc welding and TIG welding. And correspondingly, the root openings are 3, 4 and 2.8mm. The results of the tensile test of weld HAZ come out electric shield arc welding > $CO_2$ gas arc welding > TIG welding in case of single welding. It is believed that this is a phenomenon where difference of its root opening or base metal thickness. Also, the technique of AE is ideally suited to study variables which control time and stress dependent fracture or damage process in metallic materials.

  • We report a 66-year-old woman with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) 1 treated with combined medical and active physical therapy. She was diagnosed with CRPS 1 following partial shoulder prosthesis due to proximal humerus fracture. Despite continuous medication and physical therapy, there was no improvement in her pain and functional outcome. Her overall pain was decreased by stellate ganglion block 3 times in two weeks conducted during the second month of the follow-up period. Following the ganglion blockades, pain and the other symptoms were decreased intermittently but range of motion (ROM) and functional status were not satisfied as much as expected. After the third month of follow-up, her passive and active ROM of the shoulder joint was increased after application of manipulation under general anesthesia. In conclusion, because CRPS 1 remains one of the most difficult pain syndromes, early diagnosis and treatment are important to have adequate functional results from physical therapy. Manipulation under general anesthesia may be an additional effective treatment tool to obtain functional improvement in some patients diagnosed with CRPS 1.

  • The perforation of a cardiac chamber by a fractured rib after blunt trauma is a rare event. Here, we report the case of patient who was referred for multiple rib fractures after a fall from a height. The patient was found to have a penetrating cardiac injury which was detected on a computed tomography chest scan. Computed tomography is a useful screening tool for victims of blunt chest trauma. Once cardiac perforation has been confirmed or is highly suspected, it is important to preserve the patient's vital signs until reaching the operating room by minimally manuplating the chest wall and permitting hypotension, which also prevents exsanguinating hemorrhage. For the same reasons, early cardiac tamponade may also improve the patient's survival.

  • Pneumatic fracturing is an emerging tool to enhance the remediation efficiency of contaminated unsaturated zones by injecting high pressure air and inducing artificial fracture networks. Pneumatic fracturing is reported to be well suited for the cases where the contaminated unsaturated zone thickness is less than 5 m as many contaminated domestic sites in Korea. Nevertheless, there have been almost no studies carried out on the site-specific efficiency and the optimized design of pneumatic fracturing considering the unsaturated zone characteristics of Korea. In this study, we employ numerical simulations to compare the efficiency of pneumatic fracturing on the aspect of the site remediation and the porosity improvement at several hypothetic unsaturated zones composed of four typical soil types. According to the simulation results, it is found that the zone with fine grains soil such as clay and silt shows better efficiency than the zone composed of coarse grains in terms of air flow and porosity enhancements. The results imply that pneumatic fracturing may improve the efficiency of site reclamation by jointly or independently applied to the many contaminated sites in Korea.

  • A fatigue life prediction program for multiple planar surface cracks in finite plates and T-fillet joints, based on linear elastic fracture mechanics was developed. This prediction technique include the crack coalescence, mutual interation and the stress intensity concentration effect in welded joints. Total of 44 cases were compared with lida's and Vosikovsky's experimental results and it was found that the present method was a reasonable tool for the predictioin of fatigue life.

  • The demands for robotic and automatic system are continually increasing in manufacturing fields. There have been many studies to monitor and predict the system, but they have mainly focused upon measuring cutting force, and current of motor spindle, and upon using acoustic sensor, etc. In this study, digital image of time series sequence was acquired by taking advantage of optical technique. Mean square error was obtained from it and was available for useful observation data. The parameter was estimated using PAA(parameter adaptation algorithm) from observation data. AR(auto regressive) model was selected for system model and fifth order was decided according to parameter estimation. Uncorrelation test was also carried out to verify convergence of parameter. Through the proceedings, it was found that there was a system stability.
