  • For estimating paddy field area with Landsat TM images, two dates, May 31, 1991 (transplanting stage) and August 19, 1991 (heading stage) were selected by the data analysis of digital numbers considering rice cropping calendar. Four different estimating methods (1) rule-based classification method, (2) supervised classification(maximum likelihood), (3) unsupervised classification (ISODATA, No. of class:15), (4) unsupervised classification (ISODATA, No. of class:20) were examined. Paddy field area was estimated to 7291.19 ha by non-classification method. In comparison with topographical map (1:25,000), accuracy far paddy field area was 92%. A new image stacked by 10 layers, Landsat TM band 3,4,5, RVI, and wetness in May 31,1991 and August 19,1991 was made to estimate paddy field area by both supervised and unsupervised classification method. Paddy field was classified to 9100.98 ha by supervised classification. Error matrix showed 97.2% overall accuracy far training samples. Accuracy compared with topographical map was 95%. Unsupervised classifications by ISODATA using principal axis. Paddy field area by two different classification number of criteria were 6663.60 ha and 5704.56 ha and accuracy compared with topographical map was 87% and 82%. Irrespective of the estimating methods, paddy fields were discriminated very well by using two-date Landsat TM images in May 31,1991 (transplanting stage) and August 19,1991 (heading stage). Among estimation methods, rule-based classification method was the easiest to analyze and fast to process.

  • Objective : This research compared stabilities between two types of dental implant ($SLA^{TM}$, Institut Straumann AG, Waldenburg, Switzerland and $SSII^{TM}$, Osstem co, Busan, Korea) using Osstell Mentor (Integration Diagnostics AB, Goteborg, Sweden) considering surgery methods, surgery area, diameter of implant, systemic disease, and smoking for obtaining prognosis information when installing fixture of dental implant. Materials & Methods : 206 implants of 131 patients taken by resonance frequency analysis (RFA) were determined as a final sample. Dental implants were installed as protocol of supplier by a excellent dentist who had 10 years experience about dental implants. Before connecting abutments (3 months after installation of fixture), RFA were measured twice for buccal and lingual direction to obtain average value. Results : Dental implants at mandible showed significantly higher stabilities significantly than at maxilla (p<0.001). Diameter 4.8 implants had also higher stabilities than diameter 4.1 in case of $SLA^{TM}$ implants (p<0.001). $SLA^{TM}$ implants showed more excellent stabilities than $SSII^{TM}$ implants, especially at posterior area of mandible (p=0.045) and premolar area of maxilla (p=0.032). Conclusions : This research revealed higher stabilities of $SLA^{TM}$ implants than $SSII^{TM}$ implant, especially at posterior area of mandible (p=0.045) and premolar area of maxilla (p=0.032).

  • This study analyzed performance according to kick point and stiffness of Soft-$golf^{TM}$ shaft. This research team developed soft-$golf^{TM}$ as a new fusion sports with similar motions with golf and it can be learned safely for all age groups in 2002. The head of Soft-$golf^{TM}$ club is made of zinc alloy and has a mesh or a grid structure, and shaft uses carbon graphite to reduce the total weight of the club. To improve carry distance and to assure consistency of a ball during Soft-$golf^{TM}$ swing, this study manufactured shaft with various kick points (low, middle and high) and stiffness (stiff, regular, lady, morelady) and analyzed a swing motion with characteristics of each shaft presented in a dynamic condition such as a ball's speed, a head's torsion angle and a ball's deviation with ProAnalyst program through a high-speed camera taking pictures using a swing machine robot system(Robo-7). From all of the results, this study determined an appropriate shaft of Soft-$golf^{TM}$.

  • The aim of the present study is to define and tentatively to interpret the distribution of polluted water released from Lake Sihwa into the Yellow Sea using Landsat TM. Since the region is an extreme Case 2 water, empirical algorithms for detecting concentration of chlorophyll-a and suspended sediments have limitations. This work focuses on the use of multi-temporal Landsat TM data. We applied PCA to detect evolution of spatial feature of polluted water after release from the lake Sihwa. The PCA results were compared with in situ data, such as chlorophyll-a, suspended sediments, Secchi disk depth(SDD), surface temperature, remote sensing reflectance at six channel of SeaWiFS. Also, the in situ remote sensing reflectance obtained by PRR-600(Profiling Reflectance Radiometer) was compared with PCA results of Landsat TM data sets to find good correlation between first Principal Component and Secchi disk depth($R^2$=0.7631), although other variables did not result in such a good correlation. Therefore, Problems in applying PCA techniques to multi-spectral remotely sensed data were also discussed in this paper.

  • Previous reports indicated that the carboxyl terminal residues, glutamine276-threonine277 in particular, were important for actin affinity of the unacetylated smooth ${\alpha}-tropomyosin$. To determine the role of the glutamine and threonine residues in C-terminal region in actin binding, we constructed mutant striated muscle ${\alpha}-tropomyosin$ (TMs), in which these two residues were individually substituted. These mutant tropomyosins, designated TM18 (HT) and TM19 (QA), were overexpressed in E. coli as an either unacetylated form or Ala-Ser. (AS) dipeptide fusion form, and were analyzed F-actin affinity by cosedimentation. Unacetylated TM19 (QA) bound to actin approximately three times stronger than TM18 (HT) and much stronger than ST (HA). AS/TM19 (QA) showed four times stronger, in actin affinity than AS/ST (HA) while AS/TM14 (QT) bound to actin stronger to some extent than AS/TM18 (HT). These results suggested that the presence of Gln residue at 276 be primarily attributed to higher actin affinity of smooth ${\alpha}-tropomyosin$.

  • Presence of Helicobacter pylori is associated with an increased risk of developing upper gastrointestinal tract diseases. Antibiotic therapy and a combination of two or three drugs have been widely used to eradicate H. pylori infections. Due to antibiotic resistant drugs, new drug resources are needed such as plants which contain antibacterial compounds. The aim of this study was to investigate the ability of GutGard$^{TM}$ to inhibit H. pylori growth both in Mongolian gerbils and C57BL/6 mouse models. Male Mongolian gerbils were infected with the bacteria by intragastric inoculation ($2{\times}10^9$ CFU/gerbil) 3 times over 5 days and then orally treated once daily 6 times/week for 8 weeks with 15, 30 and 60 mg/kg GutGard$^{TM}$. After the final administration, biopsy samples of the gastric mucosa were assayed for bacterial identification via urease, catalase and ELISA assays as well as immunohistochemistry (IHC). In the Mongolian gerbil model, IHC and ELISA assays revealed that GutGard$^{TM}$ inhibited H. pylori colonization in gastric mucosa in a dose dependent manner. The anti-H. pylori effects of GutGard$^{TM}$ in H. pylori-infected C57BL/6 mice were also examined. We found that treatment with 25 mg/kg GutGard$^{TM}$ significantly reduced H. pylori colonization in mice gastric mucosa. Our results suggest that GutGard$^{TM}$ may be useful as an agent to prevent H. pylori infection.

  • Background: $TiUnite^{TM}$ is a highly crystalline and phosphate enriched titanium oxide surface which has a unique porous surface structure. This improved implant surface enhances bone response and reduces healing period. It also assures early stability of implant. These help to increase the success of implant. The aim of this study is to evaluate the survival rate of $TiUnite^{TM}$ surfaced single implant. Materials and methods: A retrospective analysis of 89 $TiUnite^{TM}$ surfaced implants replacing a single tooth was assessed according to their dental record. The age of the patients ranged from 17 to 82 years (mean age: $45.8{\pm}14.6)$. Data were recorded regarding the survival rate of these implants. Results: Fifty-two implants (57%) were placed in the maxilla, and 37 (43%) in the mandible. Over 75% were placed in the posterior area. Of the placed implants, 67% were the wide type. while 25% were the regular type and only 8% were of the narrow type. The single implants produced an overall clinical survival rate of 96.6% over the observation period (mean 17.9 months). Among 89 implants, only 2 implants were removed and one implant was submerged. Conclusion: According to these data, $TiUnite^{TM}$ surfaced implant in a single tooth restoration showed favorable survival rate although this study was done in a short term period.
