Capillary Electrophoresis Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide by Using Titanium Ion and 4-(2-thiazolylazo)resorcinol

  • A novel method for the detection of hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solution was developed via reaction between $H_2O_2$, trivalent titanium ion ($Ti^{3+}$) and 4-(2-thiazolylazo) resorcinol (TAR), resulting in a ternary complex with a maximum UV absorbance at 530 nm. The CE detection of $H_2O_2$ was fast, sensitive and cost-effective without pretreatment procedures. $H_2O_2$ was detected within 15 min at 1 to $100{\mu}M$ range with the lowest detection limit at $1.0{\mu}M$. Under the optimized CE conditions, the concentration of $H_2O_2$ in coffee or tea extract was quantitatively determined. Our results show that CE detection of the ternary complex of $H_2O_2-Ti^{3+}$-TAR has potential applications for the detection of $H_2O_2$ in aqueous sources.

Methylthymolblue(MTB)에 依한 Ti(IV)의 吸光光度分析 (Spectrophotometric Determination of Ti(IV) by means of Methylthymolblue(MTB) Complex)

  • A method of the colorimetric determination of titanium has been developed, based on the fact (IV) forms a stable blue complex with methylthymolblue(MTB) which is suitable for spectrophotometric determination of titanium in the concentration range of 0.2 to 22 $\mu$g per ml as $TiO_2$. The determination was carried out in the solution of pH range of 2.6 to 3.6, and the absorbancy of complex was at 600m$\mu$ with Coleman spectrophotometer. Titanium forms a 1:1 complex with MTB, which has a molar absorptivity, $1.1{\times}10^4$ at 600m\mu$. The effects of hydrogen ion concentration, reagent concentration, stability of complex, and hydrolysis were studied. Most of cations do not interfere seriously; however, many of anions such as oxalate, citrate, phosphate, chloride interfere in this determination.

Electrochemical Synthesis of TiO2 Photocatalyst with Anodic Porous Alumina

  • Aluminum was anodized in a $H_2SO_4$ solution, and titanium (IV) oxide ($TiO_2$) was electrodeposited into nanopores of anodic porous alumina in a mixed solution of $TiOSO_4$ and $(COOH)_2$. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared film was analyzed for photodegradation of methylene blue aqueous solution. Consequently, we found it was possible to electrodeposit $TiO_2$ onto anodic porous alumina, and synthesized it into the nanopores by hydrolysis of a titanium complex ion under AC 8-9 V when film thickness was about $15-20{\mu}m$. The photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$-loaded anodic porous alumina ($TiO_2/Al_2O_3$) at an impressed voltage of 9 V was the highest in every condition, being about 12 times as high as sol-gel $TiO_2$ on anodic porous alumina. The results revealed that anodic porous alumina is effective as a substrate for photocatalytic film and that high-activity $TiO_2$ film can be prepared at low cost.

OBSERV ATION OF MICRO-STRUCTURE AND OPTICAL PROPERTISE OF TITANIUM DIOXIDE THIN FILMS USING OPTICAL MMEHODS

  • $TiO_2$ films prepared by RF magnetron sputtering, electron beam evaporation, ion assisted deposition (IAD) and sol-gel method are prepared on c-Si substrate and vitreous silica substrate respectively. From the transmission spectra of $TiO_2$ films on vitreous silica substrate in the spectral region from 190 nm to 900 nm, k($\lambda$) of $TiO_2$ is obtained. Using k($\lambda$) in the interband transition region the coefficients of the quantum mechanical dispersion relation of an amorphous $TiO_2$ and hence n($\lambda$) including the optically opaque region of above fundamental transition energy are obtained. The spectroscopic ellipsometry spectra of $TiO_2$ films in the spectral region of 1.5-5.0eV are model analyzed to get the film packing density variation versus i) substrate material, ii) film thickness and iii) film growth technique. The complex refractive index change of these $TiO_2$ films versus water condensation is also studied. Film micro-structures by SE modelling results are compared with those by atomic force microscopy images and X-ray diffraction data.

황산으로 개질된 TiO2 촉매의 특성 (Characterization of TiO2 Catalyst Modified with H2SO4)

  • $TiCl_4-HCl$ 혼합용액으로부터 침전법으로 $TiO_2$를 만들고 이를 황산으로 개질하여 $TiO_2/SO_4{^{2-}}$ 촉매를 제조하였으며 제조된 촉매의 특성을 IR, XPS, XRD 및 DT-TGA로 조사하였다. 개질된 촉매의 산의 세기는 적어도 $H_0{\leq}-14.52$로 초강산 성질을 나타내었으며 이 성질은 $TiO_2$와 황산이온에 의하여 형성된 착물의 S=O 결합성질에 기인하였다. $TiO_2/SO_4{^{2-}}$의 IR spectra를 조사한 결과 황산이온은 $TiO_2$ 표면에 2자리 ligand로 배위하였다. $TiO_2/SO_4{^{2-}}$는 황산으로 개질하지 아니한 순수한 $TiO_2$에 비하여 표면적이 상당히 컸으며 또한 무정형에서 anatase상으로 되는 전이온도도 높았다.

도금폐수 중의 시안착이온의 전기화학적 분해 및 아연 회수에 관한 연구 (Electrochemical Destruction of Cyanide Ions and Recovery of Zinc Ions from Electroplating Wastewater)

  • 도금폐수중의 시안이온의 전기화학적 분해 및 아연이온의 제거에 관한 연구를 백금으로 도금된 티타늄 양극과 스텐레스 음극 전극을 사용하여 수행하였다. 전기분해시간, 셀전류, 첨가제, 염화물농도등의 여러 가지 실험파라메터를 연구하여 도금폐수중의 시안화물 분해 및 수용액중의 아연이온의 효과적인 제거에 사용하였다. 셀전류와 첨가제의 종류에 따라 시안이온의 분해 및 아연이온의 제거 효율이 크게 영향을 받는 것이 발견되었다. 시안이온의 분해 및 아연이온의 제거를 위한 경제적이며 높은 효율을 나타내는 최적화된 조건은 1시간의 전기분해시간, 12A의 전류, 그리고 0.5 M NaCl 첨가제를 사용하여 확립하였다. 양극에서의 시안이온의 분해에 관한 반응메카니즘도 논의하였다.
