In the presence of $\mu-tip$ for narrow stripe coating, there appears lateral capillary flow along the hydrophilic head lip because the $\mu-tip$ has some resistance to flow. It was known to be suppressed by increasing the contact angle of the head lip. In this paper, we have demonstrated by computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulations that it can also be suppressed by the formation of micro-patterns on the shim and meniscus guide embedded into the slot-die head. To optimize the micro-patterned structure, we have performed simulations by varying the groove width, depth, and clearance. In the absence of micro-patterns, it is shown by experiment and simulation that the solution spreads to a distance of $1,300{\mu}m$ from the ${\mu}-tip$. In the presence of micro-patterns with the groove width and clearance of $50{\mu}m$, the distance the solution spreads is reduced to $260{\mu}m$. However, no further suppression in the capillary flow is observed with micro-patterns with the groove width of $40{\mu}m$ or less. It is also observed that the capillary flow is not affected by the groove depth if it is larger than $10{\mu}m$. We have shown that the distance the solution spreads can be reduced further to $204{\mu}m$ by coating a hydrophobic material (contact angle of $104^{\circ}$) on the surface of micro-patterns having the groove width and clearance of $50{\mu}m$.

Background: This study sought to determine safe ranges of oblique angle, skin entry point and needle length by reviewing computed tomography (CT) scans and to evaluate the usefulness of a bent tip needle during celiac plexus block (CPB). Methods: CT scans of 60 CPB patients were reviewed. Image of the uppermost margin of L2 vertebral body was used to measure the minimal and maximal oblique angles and the distances from the midline to skin puncture point. The imaginary needle trajectory distance was calculated by three-dimensional measurement. When the procedure was performed by using a $10^{\circ}$ bent tip needle under a $20^{\circ}$ oblique X-ray fluoroscopic view, the distance (GF/G'F) from the midline to the actual puncture site was measured. Results: The imaginary safe oblique angle range was $26.4-34.2^{\circ}$ and $27.7-36.0^{\circ}$ on the right and left, respectively. The distance from the midline to skin puncture point was 6.1-7.6 cm on the right and 6.3-7.6 cm on the left. The needle trajectory distance at minimal angle was 9.6-11.6 cm on the right and 9.5-11.5 cm on the left. The distance of GF/G'F was 5.1-6.5 cm and 5.0-6.4 cm on the right and left, respectively. All imaginary parameters were correlated with BMI except for GF/G'F. All complications were mild and transient. Conclusions: We identified safe values of angles and distances using a straight needle. Furthermore, using a bent tip needle under a $20^{\circ}$ oblique fluoroscopic view, we could safely perform CPB with smaller parameter values.

Numerical simulations and experiments have been carried out to investigate the effect of fuel injection nozzles on the combustion and NOx formation processes in a medium-speed marine diesel engine. Spray visualization experiment was performed in the constant-volume high-pressure chamber to verify the numerical results on the spray characteristics such as spray angle and spray tip penetration. Time-resolved spray behaviors were captured by high-speed digital camera and analyzed to extract the information on the spray parameters. Spray and combustion phenomena were examined numerically using FIRE code. Wave breakup and Zeldovich models were adopted to describe the atomization characteristics and NOx formation processes. Numerical results were verified with experimental data such as cylinder pressure, heat release rate and NOx emission. Finally, the effects of fuel injection nozzles on the engine performance were investigated numerically to find the optimum nozzle parameters such as fuel injection angle, nozzle hole diameter and number of nozzle holes. From this study, the optimum fuel injection nozzle (nozzle hole diameter, 0.32 mm, number of nozzle holes, 8 and fuel injection angle, $148^{\circ}$) was selected to reduce both the fuel consumption and NOx emission. The reason for this selection could be explained from the highest fuel-air mixing in the early phase of injection due to the longest spray tip penetration and the highest heat release rate after $19^{\circ}$ ATDC due to the increased injection duration.

An analytical and experimental investigation is made to the dynamic responese of a cantilever with a tip mass that models some of the basic phenomena involved in the response of a flexible manipulator with a tip mass on its free end under the given rotating motion. The system equation is derived from the Hamilton's principle on the basis of the Euler-Bernoulli hypothesis and an approximate solution is obtained from model analysis using Galerkin's method for the vibation response of the system subjected to a sudden stop after an impulsive rotation. Experiment was performed to verify the validity of the theoretical analysis. Results are given for the vibration amplitude of the free end with respect to tip mass ratio, non-dimensionalized rotating velocity, rotating angle and non- dimensionalized hub length. The rotating condition to minimize the vibration amplitude of the free end can be determined for the given basic paramenters.
In this paper, a mixed-mode cohesive law for an interface crack between epoxy and TR (transparent thermoplastic) resin is inversely estimated by the field projection method using numerical solutions and experimentally measured displacements. Displacements in a region far away from the crack tip are measured by digital image correlation technique. An inverse analysis, the field projection method formulated from the interaction J- and M-integrals with numerical auxiliary fields, is carried out to estimate a mixed-mode cohesive law for an interface crack between dissimilar materials. In the present approach, nonlinear deformations and damage near the crack tip are converted into the relationships of tractions and separations on crack surfaces behind the crack tip. The phase angle of mixed-mode singularities of the interface crack is also obtained from measured displacements in this study.
In this paper, when the initial propagation angle of a branched crack is calculated from the maximum tangential stress criterion (MTSC) and the minimum strain energy density criterion (MSEDC), it is essential that you use stress components in which higher order terms are considered and stress components at the position in a distance 0.005㎜ from the crack tip (=r). When an interfacial crack propagates along the interface at a constant velocity, the initial propagation angles of the branched crack are similar. to the mode mixities (phase angle) and the theoretical values obtained from MTSC and MSEDC. The initial propagation angle of the branched crack depends considerably on the stress intensity factor K$_2$.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of swirler vane angle and the aspect ratio of swirl chamber of nozzle on the characteristics of single spray. The characteristics of sprat's have been investigated by measuring the spray angle, droplet size and velocity Visualization of spray was conducted to obtain the spray angle and breakup process. The spray characteristics such as droplet size and velocity were measured by Phase Doppler Anemometry(PDA). It was found that the spray angle was increased with increasing the swirler angle. For both sprays, the axial velocity and SMD were decreased with increasing the swirler vane angle. It was also shown that the axial velocity and SMD were decreased with increasing the aspect ratio of swirl chamber The effect of vane angle un the spray characteristics was greater than the aspect ratio of swirl chamber for single spray.

Under uniform heat flow, the thermal stress intensity factors for the interfacial crack on a rigid cusp-type inclusion are determined by Hilbert problem expressed with complex variable. The thermal stress intensity factors are expressed in terms of the periodic function of heat flow angle. When the tip of the interfacial crack meets that of the cusp crack, the thermal stress intensity factors have singularities. The thermal stress intensity factors at the interfacial crack tip located in the distance from the cusp crack tip vary with the location of the interfacial crack tip. From the results of the analysis, the complex potential functions and the thermal stress intensity factors for the cusp-type inclusion without the interfacial crack are derived under the cusp surface boundary conditions insulated or fixed to zero relative temperature.

Performance of a low speed axial compressor is enhanced through a proper configuration of blade row tip injection and casing treatment of groove type. Air injectors were mounted evenly spaced upstream of the blade row within the casing groove and were all aligned parallel to the compressor axis. The groove, which covers all the blade tip chord length, extends all-round the casing circumference. Method of investigation is based on solution of the unsteady form of the Navier-Stokes equations utilizing $k-{\omega}$ SST turbulence model. Extensive parametric studies have been carried out to explore effects of injectors' flow momentums and yaw angles on compressor performance, while being run at different throttle valve setting. Emphasis has been focused on situations near to stall condition. Unsteady numerical analyses for untreated casing and no-injection case for near stall condition provided to discover two well-known criteria for spike stall inception, i.e., blade leading edge spillage and trailing edge back-flow. Final results showed that with only 6 injectors mounted axially in the casing groove and at yaw angle of 15 degrees opposite the direction of the blade row rotation, with a total mass flow rate of only 0.5% of the compressor main flow, surprisingly, the stall margin improves by 15.5%.
The baseline flattened NMR spectrum has been achieved by several methodologies including pulse manipulation with a series of phase cycling. The background signal inherent in the probe is also main source of baseline distortion both in solution and solid NMR. The simple direct polarization with 90° pulse flipping the magnetization from the z-axis onto the receiver coil requires the strong rf pulse enough to encompass the wide frequency range to excite the resonance of interest nuclei. Albeit the perfect polarization 90° pulse, the signal from the unwanted magnetic fields such as background signal can not be completely suppressed by suitable phase cycling. Moreover, slowly baseline wiggling signal from the low 𝛾 nuclei is not easy to eliminate with multiple pulse manipulation. So there is still need to contrive the new scheme for that purpose in an adroit manner. In this article new triple pulse excitation schemes for TIP and modified DEPTH pulse sequence are analytically examined in terms of arbitrary phase and flip angle of pulse. The suitable phase cycling for these pulse trains is necessary for the good sensitivity and resolution of the spectrum. It is observed that the 13C sensitivity TIP experiment is almost equal to the CP/MAS with modified DEPTH sequence, both of which are applicable to both solid and solution state NMR.
