Aebaegeum has been widely used in the treatment of epistaxis, as based on Oriental Medical 1iteratures. In order to investigate experimentally the clinical effects of Aebaegeum, hemostatic time, plasma recalcification time and prothrombin time of hypoprothrombinemia induced by warfarin injection, action on isolated ileum, action on blood vessel, action on blood pressure and respiration and action on heart were observed. The result of the studies were obtained as follows: 1. Hemostatic time of vein ruptured mice was significantly shortened. 2. Plasma recalification time and prothrombin time of hypoprothrombinemic rats induced by warfarin injection were significantly shortened. 3. Spontaneous mobilities in the isolated ileum of mice were significantly suppressed, and contraction by acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride were inhibited. 4. Dilatation of blood vessel and downing of blood pressure of rabbit were noted. 5. Contraction of heart in the original position and isolated heart of frog were significantly shortened. According to the above result, it is expected that Aebaegeum can be widely applicable to the treatment of epistaxis.
Effect of pre-treatment on the gas nitriding process of austenitic stainless steels has been investigated and the following results were obtained. Minimum pre-treatment time was decreased to 5min with increasing treatment temperature from $200^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. Surface activation effect by the pre-treatment was maintained in the air up to holding time of 64hr, judging from the analysis result of gas nitrided specimens. The Depth of nitrided layer of STS 304 and 316 stainless steels were ranged from $5{\mu}m$ to $90{\mu}m$ at $440^{\circ}C{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. The X-ray diffraction intensity for austenitic stainless steels were increases as nitriding temperature from $440^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$.
304 stainless steel plate was colored by hot dip and electrochemical treatment in a solution containing sulphuric and chromic acids. In the process, treatment variables such as operating time and methode were changed. The surface characteristics that changed by the treatment of the samples such as surface composition, oxide film thickness, color, surface roughness and reflectivity were studied. Surface composition was varied as follows. Fe was decreased, but Cr and O were increased. Ni was increased until 20 min, but reveals decreasing tendency as time passed after that. These means the surface film becomes chrome rich oxide phase as the treatment times increase. The thickness of film was about 220 nm at 30 min by dip treatment and it reduced as the treatment times increased. On the other hand, the thickness was about 150 nm at 10 min by electrochemical method and it doesn't increased with time. Surface color changed from metallic white of the base plate to gray, black, red, and green-blue, gradually, as the treating time increased. The reflectivity of colored surface measured by UVVIS-NIR spectrophotometer was reduced from max 38% of basis metal to min 3.5%.
The polarizing film application exploits the unique physicochemical properties between PVA(Poly vinyl alcohol) film and CTA(Cellulose triacetate) film. However, hardly any research was aimed at improving the adhesion characteristics of the CTA film by radio frequency(RF) plasma treatment at argon(Ar) gaseous state. In this report, we deal with surface treatment technology for protective CTA film developed specifically for high adhesion applications. After Ar plasma, surface of the films is analyzed by atomic force microscopy(AFM), roughness parameter and peel strength. Furthermore, the wetting properties of the CTA film were studied by contact angle analysis. Results obtained for CTA films treated with a glow discharge showed that this technique is sensitive to newly created physical functions. The roughness and peel strength value increased with an increase in treatment time for initial treatment, but showed decreasing trend for continuous treatment time. The result of contact angle measurement refer that the hydrophilicity of surface was increased. AFM studies indicated that no considerable change of surface morphology occurred up to 3 minutes of treatment time, but a considerable uneven of surface structure resulted from treating time after 5 minutes.
The purpose of this study is to formulate and solve the scheduling problem to heat-treatment process in forging process and apply it to industries. Heat-treatment is a common process in manufacturing heavy forged products in ship engines and wind power generators. Total complete time of the schedule depends on how to group parts and assign them into heat furnace. Efficient operation of heat-treatment process increases the productivity of whole production system while scheduling the parts into heat-treatment furnace is a combinatorial problem which is known as an NP-hard problem. So the scheduling, on manufacturing site, relies on engineers' experience. To improve heat-treatment process schedule, this study formulated it into an MIP mathematical model which minimizes total complete time. Three methods were applied to example problems and the results were compared to each other. In case of small problems, optimal solutions were easily found. In case of big problems, feasible solutions were found and that feasible solutions were very close to lower bound of the solutions. ILOG OPL Studio 5.5 was used in this study.
A study was conducted to determine the effect of prostaglandin $F_2$ alpha ($PGF_2$ alpha) on the reaction time and seminal characteristics of buffalo bulls. Semen was collected from three Murrah bulls in three periods: pre-treatment, treatment and post-treatment. During the treatment period each bull was administered 2 ml $PGF_2$ alpha (Synchrocept, Fenprostalene) im, 1 hour prior to semen collection. In the post-treatment, semen was collected 7 days after the last injection of $PGF_2$. Semen samples were evaluated immediately after collection. Pre-collection injection of $PGF_2$ alpha has no significant effect on reaction time, semen volume, percentage motility, sperm concentration and total number of sperms per ejaculate. Fluctuations in semen color and consistency were observed. There is a significant (p<0.05) increase in the mean percentage of normal spermatozoa during the treatment and post treatment periods. Likewise, administration of PG results into a significant (p<0.05) rise on the average percentage of live sperms but this effect was not manifested in the post-treatment period. Improvement in mass activity was observed during the treatment and post-treatment periods.
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and direction of treatment for peripheral facial palsy (PFP) based on medical collaboration between Western and Korean medicine departments. Methods: There were 195 outpatients with PFP identified retrospectively by examining electronic medical records. These patients were treated with Korean and Western medicine from January 1st, 2018 to December 31st, 2018 at the Kyung Hee University hospital. Records were analyzed according to the patients' demographic characteristics and clinical features of the collaborative combined treatment. Results: According to the collaborative treatment pathway, the number of patients consulted from Western medicine departments was more than consulted from Korean department for the first time. The time taken by the Western medicine departments to consult with the patients at the Korean center for the first time was 14.9 days from the onset of symptoms. Acupuncture was the most frequently used Korean medicine treatment. The total treatment period for Korean medicine sessions and intervals were 91.9 days, 23 times and 3.6 days, respectively. When the Korean medicine center consulted with Western medicine departments, the time taken until the first consultation was 8.5 days from the onset of symptoms. Medication was the most used treatment, prescribed after 3.1 days. The most frequently used clinical test was an electromyogram, and this was performed after 20.5 days. The total treatment period, sessions and intervals were 21.2 days, 2.8 times and 5 days, respectively. Conclusion: The clinical status of collaborative treatment for PFP was determined including the timing and interval of consultation according to treatments.
In the treatment of functional orthodontic problems, timing is not an issue. All orthodontists start as soon as the condition is recognized. However, there is an active dialogue concerning treatment timing for structure problems. The major points in contention center around the operator's ability is to control the growth of the facial bones and to maintain post-treatment tooth position through the maturation period (especially when this position was gained by techniques involving arch expansion or distal driving of posterior segments). Factors taken into account to determine the best time of orthodontic treatment include diagnosis, interception, growth rate, patient cooperation, eruptive state and treatment period. With those exceptions of all functional problems, mild dental discrepancies and skeletal deficiencies with a predictably excellent growth potential (early treatment), the period immediately following the eruption of the permanent second molars is the period during which most orthodontic treatment should be initiated. At this time the full volume of tooth substances is present, the individual growth pattern in well established, there are sufficient teeth to receive nearly any type of appliances and the patient can easily tolerate the wearing of appliances.
In this study, we found that the moisture content of black sesame seeds increased in proportion to steaming time, and it decreased in reverse proportion to the roasting temperature and time. The crude fat and crude ash contents were shown to be in the order of steamed black sesame>raw black sesame and roasted black sesame>raw black sesame, Crude protein decreased in reverse proportion to the steaming time, and more crude protein was found in the raw black sesame samples than in the roasted black sesame samples. The contents of sesamin, sesamolin, and total lignans were shown to be in the order of roasted black sesame>raw black sesame>steamed black sesame. In the steamed black sesame samples, sesamin showed its highest level with 20 minutes of treatment, and sesamolin showed its highest level with 15 minutes of treatment. In the roasted black sesame samples, sesamin, sesamolin, and total lignans showed their highest levels with 15 minutes of treatment at $100^{\circ}C$. The phenolic compound content increased in proportion to steaming time in the steamed samples, and reached a peak after 15 minutes of treatment at $100^{\circ}C$, and then decreased after 20 minutes. SOD-like activity reached a peak after 15 minutes of treatment, and in the roasted sample it reached a peak after 15 minutes of treatment, and then decreased after 20 minutes. SOD-like activity was comparatively lower than tocopherol and higher than sesamol. The intensity of electron donating ability, following 30 minute treatments, was shown to be highest in the steamed black sesame samples after 25 minutes of treatment, and next highest in the roasted black sesame samples after 15 minutes at $100^{\circ}C$. The electron donating ability was comparatively lower than tocopherol and sesamol. With regard to lecithin's antioxidant effects, the steamed samples showed a higher oxidation restriction rate in proportion to time, and the roasted samples showed the highest rate after 15 minutes of treatment, and then decreased after 20 minutes of treatment. for hydroxyl radical scavenging, similar scavenging activity to tocopherol, and comparatively higher scavenging activity than sesamol, was shown in all samples: all samples showed scavenging abilities of 90% or higher. In summary, this study applied three different treatment methods to black sesame to determine the optimum treatment conditions, and also examined the antioxidant effects and functional characteristics. The results showed that roasting can be used for other purposes than producing oil, and also suggested that methods other than roasting can be used in a variety of ways in cooking. Also, the different treatment methods can be applied in cooking in a variety of ways, to enhance functionality and preference.
High risk breast cancer patients receive aggressive treatments such as APBSCT in order to prevent the recurrence. These treatments take a long time and decrease the quality of life of patients as a result. The purpose of this study is to examine when the changes of quality of life are dramatic in general and in specific dimension. This is a time series study of two types of treatment groups, in which 15 patients were treated by chemotherapy only and nine patients by auto-peripheral blood stem cell transplantation. Subjects were in this study were stage III and above of breast cancer. Data were collected from April 1999 to April 2000 with the 3 month-interval starting after 3rd cycle of chemotherapy. Data were collected 3 times ; treatment period, treatment finishing period and 3 months later after the treatment. Ferrell's QOL instrument was used which had been developed for the breast cancer patients in 1989. Repeated Measure ANOVA was used to examine differences of quality of life at 3 points of time respectively. As a result, average age was 43.29 years (4.38yrs) and the number of married person was 22(91.7%). Scores of quality of life were 5.45 at 1st period after 3rd cycle of chemotherapy, 5.17 after treatment, 5.10 at 3 months later after treatment and difference of quality of life was decreased according to period of treatment (P=.085). Only the psychological dimension of the quality of life showed the significant difference (P=.045). Two different treatment groups showed a difference of quality of life at 3 month later after treatment. In conclusions, high risk breast cancer patients showed the decreased quality of life related to treatment up to 3 months later of treatment. Subjects who received APBSCT returned to the normal quality of life more rapidly than those who received chemotherapy. Psychological nursing intervention was needed during the whole period of treatment.
