Application of time-of-flight near infrared spectroscopy to Satsuma mandarin

  • In this study, a newly constructed optical measurement system, whose main components were a parametric tunable laser and a near infrared photoelectric multiplier, was applied to detection of the information for the inside of Satsuma mandarin using time-of-flight near infrared spectroscopy (TOF-NIRS). The combined effects on the time resolved profile of sample diameter, sugar content, the wavelength of the laser beam, and the detection position of transmitted light were investigated in detail. The samples used were Satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshu $M_{ARC}$.) (location: Wakayama, Japan) having the diameters of 50-84 mm. The sugar content measured by a refractometer varied from 9.9 to 16.3 Brix%. Equator of sample was irradiated vertically with the pulsed laser, and transmitted output power was measured on the restricted position of the equator using the optical fiber cable. The sampling time and the number of averaging the output power were 100 ns and 100 times, respectively. The variation of the attenuance of peak maxima At, the time delay of peak maxima $\Delta$t and the variation of full width at half maximum Δw were strongly dependent on the detection position and the wavelength of the laser beam. At, $\Delta$t and $\Delta$w increased gradually as the sample diameter increased to be much absorbed and vigorously scattered. On the other hand, each optical parameter had a tendency to increase as the sugar content increased. Such behavior was remarkable when the transmitted light was detected at the side face of a sample. When we apply TOF-NIRS to detection of the information for the inside of fruit with high moisture content like Satsuma mandarin, it is very important to give attention to the difference in the scattered light within tissues and the semi-straightly propagated light. Furthermore, we tried to express the resulting phenomena by using a model samples composed of water, sucrose, and milk. The variation of the time resolved profile is strongly governed by the combination of the light absorption component, scattering medium, and refractive index.

WMPS: A Positioning System for Localizing Legacy 802.11 Devices

  • The huge success of location-aware applications has called for the rapid development of an alternative positioning system to the global positioning system (GPS) for indoor localization based on existing technologies, such as 802.11 wireless networks. This paper proposes the Wireless MAC Processor Positioning System (WMPS), which is a localization system running on off-the-shelf 802.11 Access Points and based on the time-of-flight ranging of users' standard terminals. This paper proves through extensive experiments that the propagation delays can be measured with the accuracy required by indoor applications despite the different noise components that can affect the result: latencies of the hardware transreceivers, multipath, ACK jitters and timer quantization. Key to this solution is the choice of the Wireless MAC Processor architecture, which enables a straightforward implementation of the ranging subsystem directly inside the commercial cards without affecting the basic DCF channel access algorithm. In addition to the proposed measurement framework, this study developed a simple and effective localization algorithm that can work without requiring any preliminary calibration or device characterization. Finally, the architecture allows the measurement methodology to be adjusted as a function of the network load or propagation environments at the run time, without requiring any firmware update.

  • In this paper, the parameter identification for localization scheme for the optics-based micro sensor node is conducted. We analyzed short measurement range problem which can be occurred in optical based micro sensor node localization method using a time of flight. And we set up the theory for distance and maximum reflected laser power to overcome the problem by identifying hardware parameters like laser power, effective area of MEMS CCR, sensitivity of photodetector, and so on. Experimental results of measurement of maximum reflected laser power were compared with results of the theory. By using the theory, we can identify hardware parameters of localization scheme to measure particular position of the optics-based micro sensor node.

USAT(Ultrasonic Satellite System) for the Autonomous Mobile Robots Localization (무인 이동 로봇 위치추정을 위한 초음파 위성 시스템)

  • We propose a new distance measurement method and local positioning system for the autonomous mobile robots localization. The distance measurement method is able to measure long-range distances with a high accuracy by using ultrasonic sensors. The time of flight of the ultrasonic waves include various noises is calculated accurately by the proposed period detecting method. The proposed local positioning system is composed of four ultrasonic transmitters and one ultrasonic receiver. The ultrasonic transmitter and receiver are separated but they are synchronized by RF (Radio frequency) signal. The proposed system using ultrasonic waves is represented as USAT(Ultrasonic Satellite System). USAT is able to estimate the position using the least square estimation. The experimental results show that the proposed local positioning system enables to estimate the absolute position precisely.

An efficient range measurement method using stereoscopic disparity (양안 시차를 이용한 거리 계측의 고속 연산 알고리즘)

  • 원거리에서 무접촉 거리 계측(ranging)은 군용 장비나 건설, 항해, 자동화 등에 매우 중요하다. 계측방식은 active와 passive 방식으로 구분되는데, active방식은 laser나 microwave, 초음파 등의 time of flight를 이용하거나 레이저 조사(illumination)에 대한 카메라 영상을 해석하는 등의 다양한 방식이 있으나 장치가 복잡하고, passive 방식은 stereo camera의 양안 영상을 이용하거나 focus 특성을 이용하는 방식 등이 있으나 대부분 연산 시간이 많이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 수동식 스테레오 카메라에서 양안시차를 추출하여 triangulation으로 목표점(target point)의 거리를 측정하는 것을 기본 방식으로 하여, 기존 거리 산출 방식에서 연산 시간이 많이 소요되는 연산 과정을 효율적이고 고속으로 수행할 수 있도록 새로운 방식을 제안하였다. 즉, 목표점에서의 양안 edge 영상을 구하며, 이 영상의 accumulation profile을 correlation하여, 거리 연산의 핵심 요소인 양안 시차를 고속으로 추출하는 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 또한, 제안 방식의 효율성을 실험 결과를 통하여 보였다.

Measurement of Energy Dependent Neutron Capture Cross Section of 99Tc

  • The neutron capture cross section of $^{99}Tc$ has been measured relative to the $^{10}B$(n,g) standard cross section by the neutron time-of-flight(TOF) method in the energy range of 0.007 eV to 47keV using a 46-MeV electron linear accelerator(linac) at the Research Reactor Institute, Kyoto University(KURRI). In order to experimentally prove the result obtained, the supplementary cross section measurement has been made from 0.3 eV to 1 keV using the Kyoto University Lead slowing-down Spectrometer(KULS) coupling to the linac. The relative measurement by the TOF method has been normalized to the reference value(20.01 b) at 0.0253 eV and the KULS measurement to that by the TOF method. The existing experimental data and the evaluated capture cross sections in ENDF/B-VI, JENDL-3.2, and JEF-2.2 have been compared with the current measurements by the linac TOF and the KULS experiments. The energy dependency of the KULS data is close to that of the TOF data which are energy-broadened by the resolution function of the KULS.

Implementation of Air Pollutant Monitoring System using UAV with Automatic Navigation Flight

  • In this paper, we propose a system for monitoring air pollutants such as fine dust using an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of autonomous navigation. The existing air quality management system used a method of collecting information through a fixed sensor box or through a measurement sensor of a drone using a control device. This has disadvantages in that additional procedures for data collection and transmission must be performed in a limited space and for monitoring. In this paper, to overcome this problem, a GPS module for location information and a PMS7003 module for fine dust measurement are embedded in an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of autonomous navigation through flight information designation, and the collected information is stored in the SD module, and after the flight is completed, press the transmit button. It configures a system of one-stop structure that is stored in a remote database through a smartphone app connected via Bluetooth. In addition, an HTML5-based web monitoring page for real-time monitoring is configured and provided to interested users. The results of this study can be utilized in an environmental monitoring system through an unmanned aerial vehicle, and in the future, various pollutants measuring sensors such as sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide will be added to develop it into a total environmental control system.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the fixed wing type domestic UAV for monitoring of algae bloom in aquatic environment. The UAV used in this study is operated automatically in-flight using an automatic navigation device, and flies along a path targeting preconfigured GPS coordinates of desired measurement sites input by a flight path controller. The sensors used in this study were Sequoia multi-spectral cameras. The photographed images were processed using orthomosaics, georeferenced digital surface models, and 3D mapping software such as Pix4D. In this study, NDVI(Normalized distribution vegetation index) was used for estimating the concentration of chlorophyll-a in river. Based on the NDVI analysis, the distribution areas of chlorophyll-a could be analyzed. The UAV image was compared with a airborne image at a similar time and place. UAV images were found to be effective for monitoring of chlorophyll-a in river.

Diagnosis of Subclavian Steal: Contrast Enhanced 3D MR Angiography vs 2D TOF

  • Purpose: Subclavian steal refers to the retrograde flow of blood in a vertebral artery that supplies t ipsilateral shoulder and arm caused by proximal subclavian artery stenosis or occlusion. T purpose of this exhibit is to demonstrate MR findings of subclavian steal on contrast-enhanc 3D (CE 3DMRA) and 2D TOF MR angiography. Method: Four patients(men 3 and women 1, age: 28-78years) with subclavian steal obtained both CE 3DMRA and digital subtraction angiography(DSA) including subclavian arterie Sequential imaging was undertaken during first pass after double dose of Gd-DTPA (0 mM/kg) Injected by a power injector. Coronal source images were obtained with coronal D-fast low angle shot sequence(TR/TE/flip angle=3.8/l.3/35, acquisition time= 10sec/one measurement). Precontrast imaging was subtracted from enhanced images and maximu intensity projection was done. 2D time-of-flight MR angiography(2D TOF) of the carot bifurcation was added in all cases with post-saturation. All studies were review retrospectively.

  • CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum) technology adopt SDS-TWR algorithms of TOA(Time of Arrival) using velocity of specific medium and ToF(Time of Flight) to measure a distance, but this method always has a regular error on distance regardless of a real distance, as a result, in far distance, it decrease a error on distance relatively, but in near distance, it increase a error on distance relatively. in this paper, we propose and test new method measuring a distance more precisely in near distance using CSS and RSSI
