  • The Delay Threshold-based Priority Queueing (DTPQ) scheme has been shown useful for scheduling both real-time (RT) and non-real-time (NRT) service traffic in mobile broadband wireless access (MBWA) systems. The overall system capacity can be maximized subject to their QoS requirement by the DTPQ scheme, which takes the urgency of the RT service into account only when their head-of-line (HOL) packet delays exceed a given delay threshold. In practice, the optimum delay threshold must be configured under the varying service scenarios and a corresponding traffic load, e.g., the number of RT and NRTusers in the system. In this paper, we propose an adaptive version of DTPQ scheme, which updates the delay threshold by taking the urgency and channel conditions of RT service users into account. By evaluating the proposed approach in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access/time division duplex (OFDM/TDD)-based broadband mobile access system, it has been found that our adaptive scheme significantly improves the system capacity as compared to the existing DTPQ scheme with a fixed delay threshold.

  • As the fact that the simple data of text and sound in early year have been changed to be high quality images and sounds. PLL(Phase-Locked Loop) system plays an important role in communication system. VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) is the most important part in PLL system because it can have critical effects on operation of PLL. Recently, it has been raised the necessity of high speed and high accuracy circuit application. In this paper, a new differential voltage clamped VCO using negative-skewed path is suggested. Using a dual-delay scheme to implement the VCO, higher operation frequency and wider tuning are achieved simultaneously. The dual-delay scheme means that both the negative skewed delay paths and the normal delay paths exist in the same ring oscillator. The negative skewed delay paths decrease the unit delay time of the ring oscillator below the single inverter delay time. As a result, higher operation frequency can be obtained. The whole characteristics of VCO are simulated by using HSPICE. Simulation results show that the resulting operating frequencies are 50% higher than those obtainable from the conventional approaches.

  • In control of time delay systems, if the informations about the system model and the disturbance can be estimated exactly, the ideal response can be achieved by using Smith predictor controller. Therefore, in this paper, an adaptive algorithm is proposed to control time delay systems existing modelling errors and disturbance. An adaptive observer to estimate disturbance and system model is designed and adaptive laws adjusting the observer are proposed. The new Smith predictor controller is designed using the proposed adaptive observer. As a result, the proposed controller can eliminate the effects of the disturbance and the modelling error. The effectiveness and the improved performance of the proposed system are verified by computer simulation.

  • In order to improve target tracking performance of the conventional electro-optical tracking system (EOTS) in the high speed and high maneuvering vehicle, an EOTS navigation algorithm is proposed, in which an inertial measurement unit(IMU) is included and navigation results of the vehicle are used. The proposed algorithm integrates vehicle's navigation results and the IMU and the time-delay and the scale factor errors are augmented into the integrated Kalman filter. In order to evaluate the proposed navigation algorithm, a land vehicle navigation experiments were performed a navigation grade navigation system, TALIN4000 and a tactical grade IMU, LN-200 and a equipment for roll motion were loaded on the land vehicle. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed algorithm effecting works in high maneuvering environment and for the time-delay.

  • This paper presents a real-time haptic rendering method for a realistic force feedback in a remote environment with varying communication time-delay. The remote environment is assumed as a virtual environment based on a computer graphics, for example, on-line shopping mall, internet game and cyber-education. The properties of a virtual object such as stiffness and viscosity are assumed to be unknown because they are changed according to the contact position and/or a penetrated depth into the object. The DARMAX model based output estimator is proposed to trace the correct impedance of the virtual object in real-time. The output estimator is developed on the input-output relationship. It can trace the varying impedance in real-time by virtue of P-matrix resetting algorithm. And the estimator can trace the correct impedance by using a white noise that prevents the biased input-output information. Realistic output forces are generated in real-time, by using the inputs and the estimated impedance, even though the communication time delay and the impedance of the virtual object are unknown and changed. The generated forces trace the analytical forces computed from the virtual model of the remote environment. Performance is demonstrated by experiments with a 1-dof haptic device and a spring-damper-based virtual model.

  • An input time delay always exists in practical systems. Analysis of the delay phenomenon in a continuous-time domain is sophisticated. It is appropriate to obtain its corresponding discrete-time model for implementation via digital computers. In this paper a new scheme for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption is proposed. The mathematical structure of the new discretization method is analyzed. On the basis of this structure the sampled-data representation of nonlinear systems with time-delayed multi-input is presented. The delayed multi-input general equation has been derived. In particular, the effect of the time-discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control systems, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic stability, is examined. Additionally, hybrid discretization schemes that result from a combination of the scaling and squaring technique (SST) with the Taylor series expansion are also proposed, especially under conditions of very low sampling rates. Practical issues associated with the selection of the method's parameters to meet CPU time and accuracy requirements, are examined as well. A performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a nonlinear system with time delay maneuvering an automobile.

  • This paper considers the stability of positive steady-state solutions bifurcating from the trivial solution in a delayed Lotka-Volterra two-species predator-prey diffusion system with a discrete delay and subject to the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on a general bounded open spatial domain with smooth boundary. The existence, uniqueness and asymptotic expressions of small positive steady-sate solutions bifurcating from the trivial solution are given by using the implicit function theorem. By regarding the time delay as the bifurcation parameter and analyzing in detail the eigenvalue problems of system at the positive steady-state solutions, the asymptotic stability of bifurcating steady-state solutions is studied. It is demonstrated that the bifurcating steady-state solutions are asymptotically stable when the delay is less than a certain critical value and is unstable when the delay is greater than this critical value and the system under consideration can undergo a Hopf bifurcation at the bifurcating steady-state solutions when the delay crosses through a sequence of critical values.

  • In this paper, an on-line dead-time compensation method based on a time delay control approach is presented. The disturbance voltages caused by the dead time are estimated in an on-line manner by the time delay control without any additional circuits and off-line experimental measurements. And the estimated disturbance voltages are fed to voltage references in order to compensate the dead-time effects. The proposed method is applied to a PM synchronous motor drive system and implemented by using software of a digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320C31. Experiments are carried out for this system and the results well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This study investigates the effectiveness of time delay neural networks(TDNN) for the time dependent prediction domain. Although it is well-known fact that the back-propagation neural network(BPN) performs well in pattern recognition tasks, the method has some limitations in that it can only learn an input mapping of static (or spatial) patterns that are independent of time of sequences. The preliminary results show that the accuracy of TDNN is higher than the standard BPN with time lag. Our proposed approaches are demonstrated by the stork market prediction domain.

  • This study proposes a new scheme for the sampled-data representation of nonlinear systems with time-delayed multi-input. The proposed scheme is based on the Taylor-series expansion and zero-order hold assumption. The mathematical structure of a new discretization scheme is explored. On the basis of this structure, the sampled-data representation of nonlinear systems including time-delay is derived. The new scheme is applied to nonlinear systems with two inputs and then the delayed multi-input general equation is derived. The resulting time-discretization provides a finite-dimensional representation of nonlinear control systems with time-delay enabling existing controller design techniques to be applied to them. In order to evaluate the tracking performance of the proposed scheme, an algorithm is tested for some of the examples including maneuvering of an automobile and a 2-DOF mechanical system.
