Self-compacting concrete (SCC) can be placed and compacted under its own weight with little or no compaction. It is cohesive enough to be handled without segregation or bleeding. Modifications in the mix design of SCC may significantly influence the material's mechanical properties. Therefore, it is vital to investigate whether all the assumed hypotheses about conventional concrete (CC) are also valid for SCC structures. The aim in this paper is to develop analytical models for flexural cracking that describe in appropriate detail the observed cracking behaviour of the reinforced concrete flexural one way slabs tested. The crack width and crack spacing calculation procedures outlined in five international codes, namely Eurocode 2 (1991), CEB-FIP (1990), ACI318-99 (1999), Eurocode 2 (2004), and fib-Model Code (2010), are presented and crack widths and crack spacing are accordingly calculated. Then, the results are compared with the proposed analytical models and the measured experimental values, and discussed in detail.
The detonation combustion is a supersonic combustion process follows on shock wave oscillations in detonation tube. In this paper numerical studies are carried out combined effect of blockage ratio and spacing of obstacle on detonation wave propagation of hydrogen-air mixture in pulse detonation combustor. The deflagration to detonation transition of stoichiometric (ϕ=1)fuel-air mixture in channel has been analyzed for effect of blockage ratio (BR)=0.39, 0.51, 0.59, 0.71 with spacing of 2D and 3D. The reactive Navier-Stokes equation is used to solve the detonation wave propagation mechanism in Ansys Fluent platform. The result shows that fully developed detonation wave initiation regime is observed near smaller vortex generator ratio of BR=0.39 inside the combustor. The turbulent rate of reaction has also a great significance role for shock wave structure. However, vortices of rapid detonation wave are appears near thin boundary layer of each obstacle. Finally, detonation combustor demonstrates the superiority of pressure gain combustor with turbulent rate of reaction of 0.6 kg mol/m3 -s inside the detonation tube with obstacle spacing of 12 cm, this blockage enhanced the turbulence intensity and propulsive thrust. The successful detonation wave propagation speed is achieved in shortest possible time of 0.031s with a significance magnitude of 2349 m/s, which is higher than Chapman-Jouguet (C-J) velocity of 1848 m/s. Furthermore, stronger propulsive thrust force of 36.82 N is generated in pulse time of 0.031s.
The objectives of this paper investigate the effect of installed spacing on the activation of spot type heat detection devices. The flow of hot gases under a ceiling resulting from the impingement of a fire plume activates heat detectors and sprinklers. Local temperature and velocity in this ceiling jet are usually expressed with the function of a ceiling height, the distance from a fire location and the heat release rate of fire. And detectors having different. RTI respond in different ways to the same temperature and velocity of ceiling jet. Thus great care should be taken to decide installed spacing of heat detection devices by considering above effects.
Flow through turbomachinery has a very complex structure and is intrinsically unsteady. Especially, recent design trend to turbomachinery with short axial spacing makes the flow extremely complex due to the interaction between stator and rotor. Therefore, it is very necessary to clearly understand the complex flow structure to obtain the high efficiency turbomachinery. So, in this paper, the effects of axial spacing on the unsteady secondary flow performance in the one stage turbine are investigated by three-dimensional unsteady flow analysis. The three-dimensional solver is parallelized using domain decomposition and Message Passing Interface(MPI) standard to overcome the limitation of memory and the CPU time in three-dimensional unsteady calculation. A sliding mesh interface approach has been implemented to exchange flow information between blade rows.
This paper described the performance test and sound characteristics of helicopter 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque system. In this research, Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) developed 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque system for a helicopter and carried out performance and sound capturing tests of even and uneven tail fans. The performance test is carried out and the noise signals which are generated during the test are saved with microphones at the same time. The performance test's results meet the design requirements. Tone-corrected perceived noise level is reduced by replacing the even product with the uneven one.
The large scaled field test by prefabricated vertical drains was performed to evaluate the superiority of vertical discharge capacity for drain materials through compare and analyze the time-settlement behavior with drain spacing and the compression index and consolidation coefficient obtained by laboratory experiments and field monitoring system 1. The relation of measurement settlement( $S_{m}$) versus design settlement( $S_{t}$) and measurement consolidation ratio( $U_{m}$) versus design consolidation ratio( $U_{t}$) were shown $S_{m}$=(1.0~l.1) $S_{t}$, $U_{m}$=(1.13~l.17) $U_{t}$, at 1.0m drain spacing and $S_{m}$=(0.7~0.8) $S_{t}$, $U_{m}$=(0.92~0.99) $U_{t}$ at 1.5m drain spacing, respectively. 2. The relation of field compression index( $C_{cfield}$) and virgin compression index( $V_{cclab}$) was shown $C_{cfield}$=(1.0~1.2) $V_{cclab}$, But it was nearly same value when considered the error with determination method of virgin compression index and prediction method of total settlement. 3. field consolidation coefficient was larger than laboratory consolidation coefficient, and the consolidation coefficient ratio( $C_{h}$/ $C_{v}$) were $C_{h}$=(2.4 ~ 3.0) $C_{v}$. $C_{h}$=(3.5 ~ 4.3) $C_{v}$ at 1.0m and 1.5m drain spacing and increased with increasing of drain spacingngasing of drain spacingng spacingng
In analyzing the nano-scale phenomena or behaviors of nano devices or materials, it is often desirable to deal with more atoms than can be treated only with a full atomistic simulation. However, even now, it is advisable to apply the atomistic simulation to the narrow region where the deformation field changes rapidly but to apply the conventional continuum model to the region far from that region. This equivalent continuum model can be formulated by applying the Cauchy-Born rule to the exact atomistic potential as in the quasicontinuum method. To couple the atomistic model with the equivalent continuum model, continuum displacements are conformed to the molecular displacements at the discrete positions of the atoms within the bridging domain. To satisfy the coupling constraints, we apply the Lagrange multiplier method. The continuum model in the bridging model should be applied on the region where the deformation field changes gradually. Then we can make the nodal spacing in the continuum model be much larger than the atomic spacing. In the first step, we generate the atomic-resolution mesh with the nodal spacing equal to the atomic spacing, and then we eliminate the nodal degrees of freedom adaptively using the node deactivation techniques. We eliminate more DOFs as the regions are more far from the atomistic region. Computing time and computational resources can be greatly reduced by the present node deactivation technique in multi scale analysis.
In this study, the effects of design factors of finned-tube heat exchanger, such as fin spacing and fin array on the frost growth and heat exchanger performance are investigated under a frosting condition. The results show that the amount of frost, frost density and blockage ratio of air flow passage increase with decreasing fin spacing. Heat transfer rate increases momentarily at the initial stage of frosting and then decreases. After that heat transfer rate continues to increase again to reach a maximum value and then decreases dramatically. It is shown that the time required for heat transfer rate to reach a maximum value becomes shorter with decreasing fin spacing, and after a maximum value, heat transfer rate decreases very fast. The maximum allowable blockage ratio is introduced to determine the operation limit of a finned-tube heat exchanger operating under frosting condition and is obtained as a function of fin spacing. It is also shown that heat transfer rate of heat exchanger with staggered fin array increases about 17% and the amount of pressure drop of air increases about 1~2 mmH$_{2}$O, compared with those of in-line type heat exchanger under frosting condition.
The smart watch is the most popular wearable computing device because it takes a form of wristwatch. Many smart watches have adopted the touch screen interface due to the limited size of display. This paper focuses on touch key size and spacing that affect the usability about the touch key of smart watch. The experiments were made for four touch key sizes (width${\times}$height; $5{\times}5$, $5{\times}7$, $7{\times}5$, $7{\times}7mm$) and nine touch key spacing (vertical${\times}$horizontal; $0{\times}0$, $0{\times}1$, $0{\times}3$, $1{\times}0$, $1{\times}1$, $1{\times}3$, $3{\times}0$, $3{\times}1$, $3{\times}3mm$). The completion time, error rate, control discomfort and identification discomfort were measured. The touch key size $7{\times}7$, $7{\times}5$ and the touch key spacing $3{\times}3$, $1{\times}3$ provided the best results in terms of the completion time and the control discomfort, while the square touch key ($7{\times}7$, $5{\times}5$) provided the best performance for the error rate measure. The result of this study can help ergonomically design the touch interface of the smart watch.
