  • It has been known that the application of an airflow window system reduces the energy consumption compared with conventional double pane window in a building. But how to analyze thermal load in a building with an airflow window system has not been well known. so two kinds of method (Mode 1 and Mode 2) to analyze time dependent thermal load of the building with an airflow window system are presented in this study. The results of load analysis about the model building(total area : $4521m^2$, 3 floors) by Mode 2 show that the maximum cooling and heating load in a building with an airflow window system are decreased about 12-17% and about 19.5% than with double pane glass window, and yearly energy consumption with an airflow window system is saved about about 20% than with double pane glass window.

  • Recently, the prestressed concrete box girder bridges are increasingly built at various locations in the world. The mechanical and structural behavior of prestressed concrete brides varies because of time-dependent material properties and sequential change of structural system due to stepwise construction. The time-dependent behavior of concrete is of importance in the design and construction of segmentally constructed and cast-in-place prestressed concrete box girder bridges. The structural response is affected b variations in creep, shrinkage properties of concrete. In this study, the example of time-dependent deformations is extended to establish how the variability in concrete properties affects the accuracy of the calculated deformations in such a bridge, and finally the results are discussed.

  • The anisotropy in creep behavior of two types of nonwoven fabrics (needle-punched and thermobonded spun laid) has been studied. It has been observed that the amount of time dependent extension depends on the direction, amount of loading and the structure of nonwoven the fabrics. The time dependent extension (creep) for the nonwoven fabric increases with the increase in amount of load. The higher initial extension and creep are observed for needle-punched nonwoven fabric as compared to thermobonded spun-laid nonwoven fabric. The creep behavior of needle-punched nonwoven shows a logarithmic relationship with time, but the thermobonded spun-laid nonwoven fabric does not show such logarithmic relationship. For a particular fabric, the creep is dependent on the fiber arrangement and is minimum in the direction in which the proportion of fiber is maximum and visa versa.

  • We analyze theMMPP/G/1/K queue with a modified state-dependent service rate. The service time of customers upon service initiation is changed if the number of customers in the system reaches a threshold. Then, the changed service time is continued until the system becomes empty completely, and this process is repeated. We analyze this system using an embedded Markov chain and a supplementary variable method, and present the queue length distributions at a customer's departure epochs and then at an arbitrary time.

  • This paper presents an analytical prediction of the prestress losses of prestressed concrete bridges. In this study a numerical procedure and computer program is developed to analyze the behavior of prestressed concrete bridges considering the time-dependent properties of material. It accounts for the aging, creep and shrinkage of concrete and the stress relaxation of prestressed steel. The structural model uses two dimensional plane frame elements with three nodal degree of freedom and is analyzed based on the finite element method. Member cross section can consist of concrete, reinforcement and prestressing steel. Two different set of equations for the prediction of time-dependent material properties of concrete are presented, which are ACI, CEB-FIP. The proposed numerical method for the prestress losses of prestressed concrete bridges is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • Pulse modulation technique provide additional controling method for electron temperature and density in rf and microwave processing plasma. Transient characteristics of electron density and temperature have been measured in pulse modulated rf inductively coupled argon plasma using simple probe circuit. Electron temperature relaxation is clearly identified in the after glow stage. Controllability of average electron temperature and density depends on the modulation frequency and duty ratio. Numerical calculation of time-dependent electron density and temperature have been performed based on the global model. It has been shown that simple langmuir probe measurement method used for continuous plasma is also applicable to time-dependent measurement of pulse modulated plasma.

  • It is very important to know the magnitude of the restraint moment which is appeared at the inner-support of the continuous PSC girder. The Age-adjusted Effective Modulus Method(AEMM) is used to get the magnitude of the restraint moment for the purpose of the time-dependent analysis of the concrete. The important factors for computing the restraint moment, the creep coefficient and the shrinkage strain are computed by comparing Korean specification with AC1209. The restrain moment is created by the individual continuity load. The main purpose of this paper is ensuring the safety of structure by acquiring the time-dependent stress acting on the concrete because the process of construction is getting difficult due to the advance of technology. The negative moment at the inner-support is decreased about 55% by introducing the process of making the continuous bridge relatively early.

  • Thermoforming is one of the most versatile and economical processes available for shaping polymer products, but obtaining a uniform thickness of the final product using this method is difficult. Heater power adjustment is very important because the thickness distribution depends strongly on the distribution of the sheet temperature. In this paper, the steady-state optimum distribution of heater power is first ascertained by a numerical optimization to obtain a uniform sheet temperature. The time-dependent optimal heater input is then determined to decrease the temperature difference through the direction of the thickness using the response surface method and the D-optimal method. The optimal results show that the time-dependent optimum heater power distribution gives an acceptable uniform sheet temperature in the forming temperature range by the end of the heating process.

  • Until now, we assumed in the time-dependent analysis of concrete structure that tensile creep has same characteristics as compressive creep has. But, in according to results of researches, it appears that tensile creep is different from compressive creep in quantity and in mechanics because tensile creep is affected significantly by micro cracking. The test results indicate that the creep behavior of concrete in compression and tension is rather different. The test data shows that the amount of creep under tensile loading is larger than that under compressive loading. In this paper, a realistic tensile creep model is suggested and incorporated in the formulation. In order to get more accurate results of time-dependent analysis. The present study indicates that the long-term deflection of concrete structures under realistic tensile creep model is somewhat larger than that under ordinary compressive creep model.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict and investigate the time-dependent creep behavior of composite materials. For this, firstly the evaluation method for the modulus of elasticity of whole fiber and matrix is presented from the limited information on fiber volume fraction using the singular value decomposition method. Then, the effects of fiber volume fraction on modulus of elasticity of GFRP are verified. Also, as a creep model, the nonlinear curve fitting method based on the Marquardt algorithm is proposed. Using the existing Findley's power creep model and the proposed creep model, the effect of fiber volume fraction on the nonlinear creep behavior of composite materials is verified. Then, for the time-dependent analysis of a composite material subjected to uniaxial tension and simple shear loadings, a user-provided subroutine UMAT is developed to run within ABAQUS. Finally, the creep behavior of center loaded beam structure is investigated using the Hermitian beam elements with shear deformation effect and with time-dependent elastic and shear moduli.
