  • This paper suggests easy stabilization methods for linear time-varying systems with delay in the state. While existing methods employ the function space concept, the methods introduced in this paper transform the delay systems into the non-delay systems so that the well known methods for finite dimensional systems can be utilized. Particularly the intervalwise predictor is introduced and shown to satisfy an ordinary system. Control laws stabilizing the non-delay systems satisfied by this predictor will be shown to at least pointwise stabilize the delay systems with the additional strong possibility of true stabilization. In order to combine two steps of the predictor method, first transformation and then stabilization, an intervalwise regulator problem is suggested whose optimal control laws incorporate the intervalwise predictor as an integral part and also at least pointwise stabilize the delay systems. Since the above mentioned methods render the periodic feedback gains for time invariant systems the pointwise predictor and regulator are introduced in order to obtain the constant feedback gains, with additional stability properties. The control laws given in this paper are perhaps simplest and easiest to implement.

  • The sound signal radiated from an underwater source is received by the hydrophone of the system, including multi-path time-delay and multi-path signal by sea surface and bottom reflection. The system using a time-delay between received signals for the source localization shows performance degradation due to incoherence by the multi-path propagation environment and the disturbance of a marine environment. Various types of array and signal processing have been used for robust source range and bearing estimation in this environment. In this paper, we use a line array composed of doublet array and an estimated time-delay correction method for robust localization performance in a multi-path propagation environment. Three doublet arrays are located on the same line, and the time-delay between signals received on each doublet array is estimated in a two-step procedure. The estimated time-delay value is obtained by the cross-correlation function and corrected by the interaction formula between the center-frequency of received signal and the geometry of the array with respect to aperture. By this proposed procedure, the range and bearing of source from array were calculated. In order to confirm the validity of the proposed method and array, we simulated localization and estimation using the Monte-Carlo method.

  • This paper analyzes functions of component parts of D-Urban Railway's door system along with operation obstacle risks on frequency(the number of occurrences/year) and severity(delay time/the number of occurrences). Based on this, the paper presents improvements and current system's problems after obstacle risks of EMU and door system are appled. The obstacle of door system causes corrosion of main parts such as DCU due to heat problem of operation environment, problems of maintenance methods and deterioration. DCUs on PCBs with more than 50% pattern corrosion cause problems. Even though the number of door system's obstacle occurrences for the last 5 years is 42, along with 104 minutes of operation obstacle, EMU operation obstacle risk is low(Level 1), which indicates there is limit in matrix of railway risks presented by the standard of railway safety management system. Therefore, it is necessary to have railway risk matrix suitable for the field. Finally, the paper deducts the obstacle risks through frequency and severity. Since 2017 when the risks of EMU and door system's obstacle, that of EMU has been 24(47% reduced) and that of door system has been average 9.5 per year(23% reduced).

  • Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) require real-time quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees to be provided by the network. The end-to-end delay is very critical metric for QoS guarantees in WMSNs. In WMSNs, due to the transmission errors incurred over wireless channels, it is difficult to obtain reliable delivery of data in conjunction with low end-to-end delay. In order to improve the end-to-end delay performance, the system has to drop few packets during network congestion. In this article, our proposal is based on optimization of end-to end delay for WMSNs. We optimize end-to-end delay constraint by assuming that each packet is allowed fixed number of retransmissions. To optimize the end-to-end delay, first, we compute the performance measures of the system, such as end-to-end delay and reliability for different network topologies (e.g., linear topology, tree topology) and against different choices of system parameters (e.g., data rate, number of nodes, number of retransmissions). Second, we study the impact of the end-to-end delay and packet delivery ratio on indoor and outdoor environments in WMSNs. All scenarios are simulated with multiple run-times by using network simulator-2 (NS-2) and results are evaluated and discussed.

  • In this paper, the problem of stability analysis for networked control systems with norm-bounded parameter uncertainties is investigated. By construction Lyapunov's functional, a new delay-dependent stability criterion for uncertain networked control system is established in terms of LMIs (linear matrix inequalities) which can be easily by various convex optimization algorithms. One numerical example is included to show the effectiveness of proposed criterion.

  • Control Theory for continuous-time system has been well developed. Due to the development of computer technology, digital control scheme are employed in many areas. When delays are in control systems, it is hard to control the system efficiently. Delays by controller-to-actuator and sensor-to-controller deteriorate control performance and could possibly destabilize the overall system. In this paper, a new approximated discretization method and digital design for control systems with multiple state, input and output delays and a generalized bilinear transformation method with a tunable parameter are also provided, which can re-transform the integer time-delayed discrete-time model to its continuous-time model. Illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed method.

  • On analyzing the power circuit of a DVR system, control limitations and control targets are presented for the voltage compensation in DVRs. The control delay in digital controllers increases the dimension of the system transfer function one degree higher which makes the control system more complicate and more unstable. Based on the power stage analysis, a novel controller for the compensation voltages in DVRs is proposed by a feedforward control scheme. Proposed controller works well with the time delay in the digital control system. This paper also proposes a guide line to design the control gain, appropriate output filter parameters and inverter switching frequency for DVRs in digital controllers. Proposed theory is verified by an experimental DVR system with a typical digital controller.

  • The suboptimal control rule is introduced in structural control implementation as an alternative over the optimal control because the optimal control may require large amount of processing time when applied to complex structural control problems. It is well known that any time delay in structural control implementation will cause un-synchronized application of the control forces, which not only reduce the effectiveness of an active control system, but also cause instability of the control system. The effect of time delay on the displacement and acceleration responses of building structures is studied when the suboptimal control rule is adopted. Two examples are given to show the effectiveness of the suboptimal control rule. It is shown through the examples that the present method is easy in implementation and high in efficiency and it can significantly reduce the time delay in structural control implementation without significant loss of performance.

  • Modern control systems often use a communication network to send measurement and control signals between nodes. Communication delays can be time varying. The length of the time delays is often hard to predict and are modeled as being random. This paper proposes a combined controller used to compensate network time delay by estimating the delay with the interacting multiple model (IMM). The network delay is modeled as a Markov chain and 3 modes representing heavy, medium, and low network loads are used in the IMM. The proposed method is applied to an optimal control system with double integrators and the results are compared with the existing control methods.

  • As applying an active control technique to a pneumatic vibration isolation system, the settling time for the payload excitation could be remarkably reduced as well as the improvement of isolation performance for the ground vibration. Some previous researches were dealt with the settling time through the simulation or experiment but, the discussion on the simulation or experimental results including moving parts, such as a XY-stage, on the isolation table rarely exists. As considering the moving part, the dynamic model could be time varying system and in such a case the force imposed on pneumatic vibration isolation table could be described by inertial forces of moving parts according to Newton's 3rd law, the action and reaction law. In this paper, the simulation procedure of the 3-DOF active pneumatic vibration isolation system including moving parts by TDC(time delay control) technique is proposed and the effectiveness through simulation results are also shown.
