Two rice varieties were planted and four degrees of defoliated tiller num ber ratio and another four levels of defoliation-panicle removal tiller number ratio were made at heading stage of know the possibility of translocation of photosynthetic products between tillers during grain filling stage of rice plant. The more tillers defoliated in a hill, the less matured grain ratio and the less grain weight per panicle of normal tillers were found. But the matured grain ratio and the grain weight per panicle of tillers defoliated partly in a hill showed higher than those of tillers of completely defoliated plant. No differences of the matured grain ratio and the grain weight per panicle were found between different levels of defoliation-panicle removal tiller number ratio in a hill. But the matured grain ratio and the grain weight per panicle of tillers of completely defoliated plant were significantly lower than those of tillers of partly defoliation-panicle removal treatments. These results indicated that the translocation of photosynthetic products between tillers was possible during grain filling period in rice plant. Source-sink relationship can be applied to interpret the result obtained in this study.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the growing process, nitrogen content of leaves and grain weight of the tillers of three wheat and one barley cultivars under space planting condition. The rates of the ear-bearing tillers were highest in the main stem (MS) and followed by the Ist, 2nd, 3rd tiller of the first order tiller. The leaf emergencies on main stem and tillers of barley were found simmilar results to synchronously emerging leaf theory reported by katayama, however, one or more leaves were emerged from the tillers of wheat comparing to the theoretical numbers. The orders of the ear primordia development were MS 1st 2nd 3rd tiller. The differences of ear development between main stem and tillers were greatter in wheat than in barley. Total nitrogen content in leaf decreased accompanying with growth and the highest content were found on the higher ordered tillers. The order of the proportion of each stem grain weight to the grain yield per unit area was MS > 1st≒2nd > 3rd tiller.

This experiment was carried out in order to know the decreasing causes of plant density and its relations with pasture productivity by the times of established pasture. The results were summarized as follows, 1. The yield components of dead plant can be used to estimate the changes of pasture productivity by the times of established pasture. 2 . The number of dead plants(PD) showed a quadraticalrelation with mean dry weight of dead plant $W/pl.)$ by the times of established pasture. 3. Relationship between relative number of tillers per dead plant to mean number of tillers of adjacent plants (RNT) and relative ratio of number of tillers per dead plant to number of tillers of plants in the 1st cutting (RNDT) showed highly positive significant correlation in 1 and 3 years old pasture. 4. Less than 100 of RNT were 79.5 %, 71.4 % and 100 % of dead plants in 1, 3 and 5, and 7 years old pasture, respectively. 5. Not exceeding values of RNDT to MRRNT were 89.7 %, 71.4 % and 100 % of dead plants in 1, 3 and 5, and 7 years old pasture. 6 . The values of 79.5 %, 57.2 % and 100 % of dead plants in 1, 3 and 5, and 7 years old pasture were not exceeding to MRRNT and less than 100 of RNT. 7. From the results described above, it was discussed that the relative number of tillers per dead plant(RNT) should be described not absolute deaeasing causes of plant density in 1 and 3 yars old pasture. But, the total number of dead plants in 5 and 7 years old pasture were absolutely influenced by RNT and MRRNT.
In order to learn the growth pattern of high yielding paddy and the effect of slaked lime and potassium on the growth pattern, a relationship between the number of panicles and tillers at different growth stages, as well as the effect of slaked lime and potassium on the increase of tillers were studied with three pot and one field experimental results. 1. The number of tillers at early stages of growth has little or negative correlation with the number of panicles. However. the correlation grows positively as the growth stage proceed and become to highly significant from the stage closing to the panicle formation. 2. Potassium is effective on increasing tillers and calcium on decreasing them. The above contradictory effect of potassium and calcium would practically be an important point for the establishment of high yielding technics of paddy, which be the one to be studied from the view point of plant physiology and soil chemistry. 3. The negative effect of calcium on tillering also seemed to be attributed to the pH rise of the media.
The subject of this experiment is to supply basic data to inhibit non-productive tillers which are uneconomical for mechanical harvesting and to evaluate optimum planting density and sowing date in central district. Total number of tillers and effective first and second of tillers according to different planting density was higher in 80 ㎝ ridge than 60 ㎝ ridge in proso millet. The wider between plant distance on the ridge, the more increased total number of tillers and effective first and second of tillers. The highest effective tillers (91.7 %) in the first tillers was obtained from the second sowing date (23 May) among different sowing date and next is in the order of 3rd(13 June, 89.8%) > 1st(2 May, 85.6%) > 4th(4 July, 85.2%). The percentage of effective tillers in the second tillers was decreased in the order of 2 May (53.7%), 23 May (40.7%), 13 June (22.2%), 4 July (0%) as the sowing date was delayed. There was no significant difference in days to heading and days to ripening according to different planting density. Although culm length was increased as planting density was increased, whereas number of tillers, stem diameter, ear length, grains per ear and 1000 grain weight was decreased. In the growth and yield characteristics of proso millet according to different sowing date, days to heading and days to ripening, culm length, stem diameter, ear length, grains per ear and yield per 10a were decreased. After the sowing date of 13 June, the reduction of growth and yield characteristics were higher because of excess-moisture injury.
In order to investigate developmental habit and morphology of maize tillers, time and location of tiller development. number of tillers per plant, tiller angle, height and diameter of tillers and root systems of tillers were examined under field condition for maize with tillers. Materials used were mostly from Korean local lines and a few lines from other countries were also included for comparison. The time of the first tiller development was about 18 to 20 days after emergence when planted on May in Yusong. The second tiller appeared about 4 to 5 days after the first tiller appeared. The tiller number per plant varied with lines and hybrids and ranged from two to ten. The location of tiller development was usually basal nodes of the main stem. Each tiller appeared to have its own root system. The angle between tillers and main stem was variable depending upon the maizes and the tiller angle could be classified into three categories. The height of tillers was also variable and seemed to be under genetic control. The most productive tillers were found among the Korean local derivatives.

Objectives: Traffic accidents often occur to power tillers without reflective light in the dawn, evening and night. Because of this reason, there has been a 'campaign to attach reflective lights' to power-tillers in recent years. Therefore, the authors investigated the relationship between reflective light and traffic accidents involving power-tillers. Methods: We defined traffic accidents of power tillers as those cases of rear-end collision by a car in the dawn, evening or night. According to our definition, four cases were confirmed in Hyungok-myeon, Gyeongju and five cases in Gigye-myeon, Pohang. We selected a control group from people in the same village with similar age, sex, driving history and education. Results: The study group contained 9 accidents and 36 non-accidents. Power tillers with reflective light were 32 cases (72.7%) of 44 cases (excluded one case due to death). Of those, the status of reflective light was 'clean' in 18 cases (56.3%). The recognition that reflective light can prevent accidents was 'Yes' in 26 cases of 44 cases (59.1%). The recognition of the 'campaign to attach reflective lights' to power tillers was 'Yes' in 38 cases of 44 cases (86.4%). The recognition about the safety regulation of driving power-tillers was 'Yes' in 32 cases of 44 cases (72.7%). Odds ratio of traffic accidents for no reflective light was 7.00 (95% CI: 1.06-58.37). Conclusions: Although the 'campaign to attach reflective lights' to power tillers are going on, its effectiveness may unknown. Therefore, more extensive epidemiologic study is needed into the relationship between reflective light and power tiller traffic accidents, with effective administration of the government and the attention of medical persons.
A survey was conducted to investigate the power tiller accidents. Eight provinces were covered for this study, and 278 power tiller owners were selected randomly by computer random generator. The results are summarized as follows : A. Frequency of accident. (1) Each power tiller had an accident 0.98 times a year and once every 361 hours of use. Higher frequency of accident was found during the miscellaneous operations including the preparation for farming operation, and there was one accident for every 92 hours of use. (2) The power tiller, which are more than six years old, met an accident 1.19 times a year , or one every 311 hours of use. This value was the highest one compared with any other group. (3) Kerosene engine power tillers met an accident 0.97 times a year, or one every 389 hours of use. It was one tie a year, or once every 329 hours of use for diesel engine power tillers. (4) Among diesel-engine power tillers, 10 horse-power group showed a higher frequency tillers. B. Cause of accident (1) The accidents of power tiller were mainly of sefety , which occurred due to the lack of attention during the operation and 47.4% of the total accidents. The next was of accidental, which represented 26.3% of the total accidents. (2) High percentage of safety accidents occurred during the preparation for farming operation including adjustment. Most of the accidental accidents occurred during the transportation. (3) Lower frequency of accident was found in the power tiller group which were operated by the 21-40 years old operator in comparison with that of the power tiller which was operated by other age group. Power tillers which were operated by high school graduates experienced less accidents compared to other education levels. C. Damage by accident (1) Eighty seven pescents of the total accidents caused damage to the power tiller operator , and 13 % of the total accidents caused property damage only. (2) With regard to the damage to the power tiller operator, 73.8% of the total accidents caused light injury but 26.3% caused heavy injury. (3) Accidents which occurred during machine preparation , and farming operations caused minor injury to the operator, but the accidents during transportation caused heavy injury which cost more than 15 days for recovery. (4) Among the 39 accidents , which caused property damage 18 accidents were from the transportation . Among the total property damage accidents 53.8% were light one which cost only less than 1,000 won. (5) The property damage from each accident cost 1,017 won, on the average, with regard to the kinds of operation, the highest property damage occurred during transportation work, with the value of 2, 965won.

This study was carried out to obtain a basic intonation for the development of a new com hybird with tillers. Materials used in this study were 20 lines having three to four tillers per plant including the PI213749 U.S. line with non-tillers. These 20 lines were compared for the botanical characteristics and genetic distances were measured using RAPD analysis. Flowering date of the K15 was very earlier, while the K07 was very late in flowering date. Stem height and ear height were similar except for K04 and the K15. K06, K13 and K19 lines were appeared to be resistant to lodging due to decreased ear height. Number of tillers per plant of lines used were shown three to five on average. K09 showed the highest kernel yield, while the K08 was low. Among characteristics measured tiller per plant and flowering dates, and silking dates showed a positive correlation, while 100 kernels weight, flowering date and ear height were shown a negative with tillers per plant. A total of 17 bands by RAPD analysis using four per primer were appeared and these lines were classified into three groups, especially the third group could be classified into of four sub-groups.

We studied the changes in growth characteristics of major cultivated rice in low- density transplanting. The culm and spikelet length did not change in low density transplanting conditions. As the distance between hills increased by 10 cm, the number of tillers per hill increased by an average of 4.4 and the number of grains per spikelet increased by 7.5. The cultivar that had more tillers and higher grain number in 80 hills per 3.3 m2 tended to have more tillers and grain in low-density transplanting conditions. However, the increase rate of tillers and grain in low-density transplanting was not significanty different from the tiller and grain number in 80 hills per 3.3 m2. The total branch number and branch length in spikelets increased in low-density transplanting conditions. The grain number per spikelet was also increased by the in low-density transplanting method.
