  • To develop smart sportswear capable of measuring biometric data, we created a close-fitting pattern using two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D, respectively) methods. After 3D virtual fitting, the tightness of each pattern was evaluated using image processing of contact points, mesh deviation, and cross-sectional shapes. In contact-point analysis, the 3D pattern showed high rates of contact with the body (84.6% and 93.1% for shirts and pants, respectively). Compared with the 2D pattern, the 3D pattern demonstrated closer contact at the lower chest, upper arm, and thigh regions, where electrocardiography and electromyography were primarily carried out. The overall average gap was also lower in the 3D pattern (5.27 and 4.66 mm in shirts and pants, respectively). In the underbust, waist, thigh circumference, and mid-thigh circumference, the cross-section distance between clothing and body was showed a statistically significant difference and evenly distributed in the 3D pattern, exhibiting more closeness. The tightness and fit of the 3D smart sportswear sensor pattern were successfully evaluated. We believe that this study is critical, as it facilitates the comparison of different patterns through visualization and digitization through 3D virtual fitting.

  • This study performed an experimental study for air-tightness performance evaluation of concrete tube structures with joints. The test specimens consist of a continuous concrete tube, a concrete tube with a joint in the middle, and a segmented concrete tube. The test is performed in such a way that the inner pressure of the tube is dropped down to 0.1atm and the increase of the pressure is monitored with time. An equivalent air permeability is then calculated based on the test results. The results show that, as expected, a structure with more joints or bonds tends to be less air-tight. A sensitivity study shows that the system air-tightness performance level becomes higher as either the diameter or the thickness of the tube increases. Moreover, the increase in the diameter or the thickness of the tube makes an effort to enhance the air-tightness more effective.

  • This study was intended to evaluate the permeable performance through a change of reinforcing materials, curing condition, durability evaluation and permeability test, and to select the reinforcing material which could reduce the durability and water tightness from it, as the study for considering how the change of the outside's environment factors that the concrete structure actually contacted with impacted the concrete's durability especially the permeability by referring to such the background of the study. Accordingly, it was judged that evaluating the permeability by considering the severe environment condition where the concrete structure was placed in was more reasonable than measuring the existing permeability coefficient conducted in the sound state for the permeability evaluation of actually-used concrete structure. In this study, it also could be known that the specimen of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete which mixed the long and short steel fiber was the most effective for water tightness enhancement in severe environmental conditions.

  • Super-speed vacuum tube system, where the air resistance is minimized to obtain high speed of the vehicle, is considered to be a viable alternative transportation system. Air-tightness is one of the most important design requirements of the system, because the internal pressure of the system needs to be maintained significantly lower than the atmospheric pressure. This study performed an experimental test, where a series of concrete tube specimens were applied by external loads to induce cracks and the effective air-permeability of the cracked tube structures were measured. The test results indicates that the information on the length and the width of the load-induced cracks are not enough to anticipate the system air-tightness, whereas the load-induced displacement has higher correlation with the systems air-tightness. Based on these results, a direction of future research for effect of the load-induced cracks on the system air-tightness is suggested.

  • Given that most of the link prediction algorithms for signed social networks can only complete sign prediction, a novel algorithm is proposed aiming to achieve both link prediction and sign prediction in signed networks. Based on the structural balance theory, the local link tightness and global link tightness are defined respectively by using the structural information of paths with the step size of 2 and 3 between the two nodes. Then the total similarity of the node pair can be obtained by combining them. Its absolute value measures the possibility of the two nodes to establish a link, and its sign is the sign prediction result of the predicted link. The effectiveness and correctness of the proposed algorithm are verified on six typical datasets. Comparison and analysis are also carried out with the classical prediction algorithms in signed networks such as CN-Predict, ICN-Predict, and PSNBS (prediction in signed networks based on balance and similarity) using the evaluation indexes like area under the curve (AUC), Precision, improved AUC', improved Accuracy', and so on. Results show that the proposed algorithm achieves good performance in both link prediction and sign prediction, and its accuracy is higher than other algorithms. Moreover, it can achieve a good balance between prediction accuracy and computational complexity.

  • Currently government certified test method for an automobile remanufactured products is insufficient. Thus many automotive parts in the remanufacturing market are lacking proper evaluation criteria and production of defective products are causing customer dissatisfaction. In this paper a power steering oil pump, which requires stringent manufacturing standards, is studied by the failure mode and effect analysis approach. The research suggested that the test criteria such as discharge flow characteristic test, tightness test, pulley run-out test, pressure switch operation test, low temperature test and rotation pressure durability test should be performed to evaluate the reliability of remanufactured power steering oil pumps. As a result of tests, the performance of remanufactured power steering oil pump satisfied the evaluation criteria of pressure switch operation test and low temperature test. However, the remanufactured power steering oil pump failed to satisfy the evaluation criteria on discharge performance test, tightness test and pulley run-out test. These performance evaluation tests proved the necessity of standard process for the remanufactured power steering oil pump.

  • This study is an evaluation of the water-tightness properties of rain-block systems in the sliding-roof joint of large-span membrane structures. In this study, we suggested a method of evaluating the water-tightness performance of the joint part of a sliding door in the roof of a large-span membrane structure (for a pilot project), in an environment of rain and wind. The shape of the rainwater blocking systems of the joint part in a sliding door verifies the defects and the effects of water leakage prevention when there is precipitation with wind conditions. To secure the water-tightness of large span membrane structures, it is necessary to have a guideline on the evaluation of the design for rain-block system of the joint part, and the quality of the membrane material, both of a retractable roof and a closed roof.

  • This paper presents a preliminary study for air-tightness evaluation of vacuum tube structures for super-speed tube railway systems. The formula for flow rate of the air caused by the pressure difference of the inside and outside of the tube structure is derived based on Darcy's law. A test is then performed to measure the air-permeability of concrete with various compressive strengths, the result of which is used for analytical simulation of the air intrusion for a tube structure with a preliminarily defined section. It has been shown that concrete with the compressive strength of at least more than 50MPa is recommended for effective operation and maintenance of the vacuum pump systems, as the air-permeability of concrete is inversely proportional to the exponent of its compressive strength.

  • The aim of this study was comparing measuring tools for detecting physical comfortness with variation of garment pressure. The measuring tools for detecting physical comfortness were EEG and survey questionnaire. Two low-pressure compressionwears and a commercial compressionwear (girdle) were tested. Results showed that the questionnaire survey well detected suffocation or motion comfortness. But it did not discrete the appropriate tightness of the compressionwears. The results of EEG analysis show that the absolute power of ${\alpha}$-wave value was elevated with the low-pressure compressionwears. It also showed lower stress value. The high-pressure compressionwear presented decreased absolute power of ${\alpha}$-wave value. It showed higher stress value. These results implicate that EEG can appropriatly indicate the change of physical comfortness of compressionwear. The appropriate tightness of compressionwear can be measured with EEG analysis rather than survey questionnaire.
