  • $Pb(Zr_{0.525} Ti_{0.475})O_3$ piezoelectric ceramics both unmodified and doped with NiO were prepared by the conventional oxide techniques using sintering temperature from 900 to to 125$0^{\circ}C$. The difference in densification process between unmodified and NiO doped PZT ceramics was studied by shrinkage vs. firing temperatures and it was caused by increasing defect concentration in calcining process of NiO doped PZT ceramics. And nickel oxide solubility limit for $Pb(Zr_{0.525} Ti_{0.475})O_3$ ceramics is shown to be at the range from 0.2wt% to 0.5wt% from this defect model micro-structures dielectric and piezolectric properties of Nio doped PZT ceramics.

UV Light Induced Photocatalytic Degradation of Cyanides in Aqueous Solution over Modified $TiO_2$

  • Metal doping was adopted to modify TiO2 (P-25) and enhance the photocatalytic degradation of harmful cyanides in aqueous solution. Ni, Cu, Co, and Ag doped TiO2 were found to be active photocatalysts for UV light induced degradation of aqueous cyanides generating cyanate, nitrate and ammonia as main nitrogen-containing products. The photoactivity of Ni doped TiO2 was greatly affected by the state of Ni, that is, the crystal size and the degree of reduction of Ni. The modification effects of some mixed oxides, that is, Ni-Cu/TiO2 were also studied. The activity of Ni-Cu/TiO2 for any ratio of Cu/Ni was higher than that of Ni- or Cu-doped TiO2, and the catalyst at the Cu/Ni ratio of 0.3 showed the highest activity for cyanide conversion.

광전기 화학변환에 미치는 $TiO_2$ 전극의 두께와 첨가제의 영향 (Effects of the Thickness and Dopant on the Photoelectro- chemical Conversion in the Polycrystalline $TiO_2$ Electrodes)

  • The photoelectrochemical properties of the reduced $TiO_2$ceramic electrodes are investigated varying the thickness of the electrodes and the amounts of $Sb_2O_3$ as dopant. As the thickness of the undoped. $TiO_2$ceramic electrode increases the photocurrent tends to decrease. However for the R-F sputtered $TiO_2$ thin film electrodes the photocurrent tends to increase to about 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ thick and then decreases with increasing thickness. For the $TiO_2$ ceramic electrodes doped with $Sb_2O_3$ the photocurrent decreases with inreasing the amounts of dopant and in the case of rapid cooling in air without reduction treatment the photocurrent shows lower value. Also visible light excitation is observed at 500~550(nm) wavelength for the $TiO_2$ ceramic electrodes doped with $Sb_2O_3$comparing wtih the $TiO_2$ ceramic electrodes (~420nm)

  • 8 mol% Y-doped $SrTiO_3$ powder was synthesized by Pechini method from titanium isopropoxide, strontium nitrate, yttrium nitrate, citric acid and ethylene glycol. A $Y_2Ti_2O_7$ pyrochlore phase-free perovskite powder was obtained by calcining a polymeric resin, which was prepared from a precursor solution, at $500^{\circ}C$ in an air atmosphere. Low temperature calcination could lead to a fine-grained microstructure. In the case of a solid-state reaction, an extended heat-treatment at high temperature in a reduced atmosphere needed to obtain a single phase perovskite $SrTiO_3$.

Enhancement of NOx photo-oxidation by Fe-doped TiO2 nanoparticles

  • Microwave hydrothermal-assisted sol-gel method was employed to synthesize the Fe doped TiO2 photocatalyst. The morphological analysis suggests anatase phase nanoparticles of ~20 nm with an SBET area of 283.99 ㎡/g. The doping of Fe ions in TiO2 created oxygen vacancies and Ti3+ species as revealed through the XPS analysis. The reduction of the band gap (3.1 to 2.8 eV) is occurred by doping effect. The as-prepared photocatalyst was applied for removal of NOx under solar light irradiation. The doping of Fe in TiO2 facilitates 75 % of NOx oxidation efficiency which is more than two-fold enhancement than the TiO2 photocatalyst. The possible reason of enhancement is associated with high surface area, oxygen vacancy, and reduction of the band gap. Also, the low production of toxic intermediates, NO2 gas, is further confirmed by Combustion Ion Chromatography. The mechanism related NOx oxidation by the doped photocatalyst is explained in this study.

  • 공기중의 열처리에 의하여 상온에서 낮은 저항을 갖는 PTC 써미스터를 제작했다. 재현성을 높이기 위해 BaTiO3에 Al2O3, SiO2 및 TiO2를 첨가 했으며, 불순물로서 Sb2O3를 첨가했다. 시편은 공기 중에서 1,200℃∼1,380℃로서 가열되었으며, Sb2O3첨가량에 대한 저항관계를 조사했다. 이 시편들은 공기중의 열처리에서도 재현성이 좋았다. 연구된 시편은 3.75mole% Al2O3, 1.25mole% SiO2, 2.25mole% TiO2 및 0.16∼0.25wt% Sb2O3를 BaTiO3에 첨가하여 만들었으며 저항값은 14∼300ohm이었다.

Synthesis of Amorphous Er3+-Yb3+ Co-doped TiO2 and Its Application as a Scattering Layer for Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

  • $TiO_2$ doped with $Er^{3+\;and\;Yb^{3+}$ was used for fabricating a scattering layer and a nano-crystalline $TiO_2$ electrode layer to be used in dye-sensitized solar cells. The material was prepared using a new sol-gel combustion hybrid method with acetylene black as fuel. The $Er^{3+}$-$Yb^{3+}$ co-doped titanium oxide powder synthesized at 700oC had embossed structure morphology with a size between 27 to 54 nm that agglomerated to produce micron size particles, as observed by the scanning electron micrographs. The XRD patterns showed that the $Er^{3+}$-$Yb^{3+}$ co-doped titanium oxide had an amorphous structure, while using the same method without doping $Er^{3+}\;or\;Yb^{3+},\;TiO_2$ was obtained in the crystallite form with thea dominance of rutile phase. Fabricating a bilayer structure consisting of nano-crystalline $TiO_2$ and the synthesized $Er^{3+}$-$Yb^{3+}$ co-doped titanium oxide showed better scattering property, with an overall increase of 15.6% in efficiency of the solar cell with respect to a single nano-crystalline $TiO_2$ layer.

  • NOX detecting gas sensors using TiO2 doped tungsten oxide semiconductor were prepared and their electrical and sensing characteristics have been investigated. In normal air condition, the sensors of WO3, TiO2 doped WO3 show grain boundary heights of 0.34 eV, 0.25 eV, respectively. The grain boundary barrier energy variation was increased by doping TiO2 into large variation of resistance to NOX gases. And doping the TiO2 4 wt.%, the particle size of WO3 polycrystal films showed higher sensitivity and better sorption characteristics to NOX gas than the pure WO3 films material in air at operating temperature of $350^{\circ}C.$ The TiO2 doped WO3 semiconductor gas sensor shows nano-sized particle size and good sensitivity to sub-ppm concentration of NOX.

  • Self-cleaning fabric is a fabric having a function of decotamination via photodecomposition of photocatalyst or wash-off of contaminants on the superhydrophobic surface. TiO2 is the main photocatalyst for this purpose, but it only functions under UV light which is only a little portion of sunlight, compared to visible light. In this regard, this study aims to investigate Fe-doped TiO2 for improved photodecomposition from visible light sensitization to apply self-cleaning finishing of PET fabrics. Moreover, the Fe-doped TiO2 treated PET fabric was further treated with hexadecyltrimethoxysilane to provide superhydrophobicity on the PET fabrics. As a result of this dual treatment, the prepared fabric exhibited excellent photodecomposition of methylene blue with 96.96% in 12h under sunlight and superhydrophobicity with water contact angle of 166.5° and roll-off angle of 7°. This suggested that the excellent self-cleaning functions can be privided to PET fabric via Fe-doped TiO2 and hexadecyltrimethoxysilane treatment.

Sm을 첨가한 SrTiO3 형광체의 발광특성 (Luminescent Properties of SrTiO3 Phosphors doped with Sm)

  • Photoluminescence properties of $SrTiO_3$:Sm red phosphors synthesized by solid state reaction method were studied under 254 nm excitation. Emission bands at 576 nm and 616 nm in heavily $Sm^{3+}$ ion doped $SrTiO_3$:Sm phosphors were observed, which were attributed to $^4G_{5/2}\rightarrow{^6}H_{5/2}$ and $^4G_{5/2}\rightarrow{^6}H_{7/2}$ transition of $Sm^{3+}$, respectively. The $Sm^{3+}$ ion concentration exhibiting the maximum emission intensity in the $SrTiO_3$:Sm was 30 mol%. The luminescence caused by $Sm^{3+}$ in the $SrTiO_3$:Sm phosphors was interpreted by the energy transfer between $Sm^{3+}$ ions.
