  • In this study, double layer KTN/STO thin films were fabricated on $Pt/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrate, their structural and electrical properties were measured according with the number of STO coatings, and their applicability to microwave materials was investigated. The average grain size was about 80~90 nm, the average thickness of the 6-coated KTN thin film was about 320 nm, and the average thickness of the STO thin film coated once was about 45~50 nm. The dielectric constant decreased with increasing frequency, and as the number of STO coatings increased, the rate of change of the dielectric constant with the applied electric field decreased. The tunability of the KTN thin film showed a maximum value of 19.8% at 3 V. The figure of merit of the KTN/1STO thin film was 9.8 at 3 V.

  • The effects of dopants on the modification of microstructure of UO$_2$ and UO$_2$-4wt%CeO$_2$ sintered pellets have been studied in hydrogen and $CO_2$/CO mixture atmospheres by using $Ta_2O_5$, TiO$_2$ and $Nb_2O_5$ as sintering additives. The dopant were added as oxide powders and homogenized by attrition milling. The mixed powders were pressed, and then sintered in hydrogen at 1$700^{\circ}C$ , or in oxidizing atmosphere using Controlled $CO_2$/CO mixtures at 125$0^{\circ}C$. Both density and microstructure of UO$_2$ are modified by the addition of dopants in reducing atmosphere. The sintered density is increased with $Ta_2O_5$ addition up to 0.33wt% and subsequently decreased with higher content of the additive. The effect on the densification and the gain growth are apparent with the addition of 0.24wt% $Nb_2O_5$. With 0.lwt% titania and 0.6wt% $Ta_2O_5$, the sintered density is decreased, but the grain size is increased. In oxidizing atmosphere, the grain sizes for UO$_2$ doped with the above additives are smaller than that for pure UO$_2$. The grain size of Ta or Nb-doped UO$_2$ is decreased with increasing $CO_2$/CO ratio, but that of pure UO$_2$or T-doped UO$_2$ is increased. A large portion of second phases is observed in UO$_2$ doped with 0.lwt% TiO$_2$ sintered in hydrogen atmosphere, while, in $CO_2$/CO atmospheres, the second phases or dopant agglomerates are not observed. For UO$_2$-4wt%CeO$_2$ mixed oxide, the effect of additives on the gain growth is not so much as that for the pure UO$_2$. This is attributed to the formation of clusters by dopant cations and Ce ions, so that the additives contribute to a lesser exent to the grain growth for the mixed oxide.

  • Today, dental implants are an acceptable alternative, capable of providing bone-anchored fixed prostheses for improved quality of life and self esteem for many patients. Research advances in dental implantology have led to the development of several different types of materials, and it is anticipated that continued research will likewise lead to advanced dental implant materials. Currently used pure titanium has relatively low hardness and strength which possibly limits its ability to resist the functional loads as a dental implant. Ti-6Al-4V also has potential problems such as corrosion resistance, bone biocompatibility etc. The carefully selected Zr, Nb, Ta, Pd, In constituents could improve mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility compared to that of currently used implant metals. On the basis of the totality of the data from our study, it can be concluded that new titanium alloys containing Zr, Nb, Ta, Pd, In are able to provide improved mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility to warrant further investigation of it's potential as new biomaterials for dental implants.

  • β titanium alloys containing β stabilizing elements such as V, Nb, Ta, Mo and Fe are widely used etc, due to their excellent specific strength, corrosion resistance, fatigue strength and easy formability. New metastable β titanium alloys are developed containing low-cost elements (Mo and Fe) in this study. Fe element is a strong β-stabilizer which can affect the mechanical and electrochemical properties of Ti-5Mo-xFe (x = 1, 4 wt%) alloys. These properties were analyzed in connection with microstructure and phase distribution. Ti-5Mo-4Fe alloy showed higher compression yield stress and maximum stress than Ti-5Mo-1Fe alloy due to solid-solution hardening and grain refinement hardening effect. As Fe element increased, Fe oxide formation and reduction of ${\bar{Bo}}$ (bond order) value affect the decrease of corrosion resistance. Ti-5Mo-xFe alloys were more excellent than Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy.

  • The effect of $V_2O_5$, a donor-type dopant on the degradation of quality factor of ($Zr_{0.8}, Sn_{0.2})TiO_4$was compared with Ta$_2$O$_{5}$ doped ($Zr_{0.8}, Sn_{0.2})TiO_4$ in terms of microstructure, electrical conductivity, and oxidation state of the dopant. It is well known that the addition of the donor type species such as $Ta_2O_5,Nb_2O_5, Sb_2O_5, WO_{3}$, increases the quality factor of ($Zr_{0.8}, Sn_{0.2})TiO_4$due to decrease the oxygen vacancy concentration. Unlike other dopants, however, the addition of $V_2O_5$ decreased the quality factor. The degradation of quality factor of ($Zr_{0.8}, Sn_{0.2})TiO_4$was resulted from the formation of grain boundary phase and $V_2O_5$rich fiber shaped secondary phase, and the increasing the oxygen vacancy concentration due to unstability of oxidation state of vanadium ions in ($Zr_{0.8}, Sn_{0.2})TiO_4$ceramic.c.

  • The pure Ti is taken annealing process for one hour at 90$0^{\circ}C$. The pure Ti is sufficient for ASTM B348 Grade2. The rolling mill roll the Ti-8Ta-3Nb(wt%) which became vacuum melting in arc furnace until the length is about 45mm and the thickness is about 6.05mm. Then it is made 6mm$\times$6mm$\times$44mm by wire cutting with EDM and it is made ∮ 6mm by rough cutting with the general purpose lathe. The machining accuracy of implant parts in the dental and medical science are decided by dimension, shpe, straightness, surface roughness. It is difficult to cut for the Ti alloy. It is caused problems of straight degree and surface roughness to the Ti alloy have many cases which length is smaller than diameter in cutting. Total 24 specimens different kind of 4 alloies are used in experiment to gain a cutting property. According to the cutting velocity, cutting depth, cutting temperature, feed and clearance angle experiments are performed. Conclusively it is expected that cutting depth of 0.5mm, feed velocity of 0.07mm/rev and cutting velocity of 80m/min could make a suitable result.

  • Beta-titanium alloys are used in many industries due to their increased elongation resulting from their BCC structure and low modulus of elasticity. However, there are many limitations to their use due to the high cost of beta-stabilizer elements. In this study, biocompatible Ti-Mo-Fe beta titanium alloys are designed by replacing costly beta-stabilizer elements (e.g., Nb, Zr, or Ta) with inexpensive Mo and Fe elements. Additionally, Ti-Mo-Fe alloys designed with different Fe contents are fabricated using powder metallurgy. Fe is a strong, biocompatible beta-stabilizer element and a low-cost alloying element. The mechanical properties of the Ti-Mo-Fe metastable beta titanium alloys are analyzed in relation to the microstructural changes. When the Fe content increases, the tensile strength and elongation decrease due to brittle fracture despite a decreasing pore fraction. It is confirmed that the hardness and tensile strength of Ti-5Mo-2Fe P/M improve to more than 360 Hv and 900 MPa, respectively.

  • Electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (EPR) tests are used to evaluate the degree of sensitization (DOS) of stainless steels and nickel base alloys. The validity of EPR test to detect DOS of these alloys, however, depends all the electrolyte composition employed. The existence of precipitates such as NbC, and TiC, etc. in the alloys also affects the reactivation behaviors of these alloys. In this investigation, the reactions involved during EPR processes are analyzed. In 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$+ 0.01 M KSCN electrolyte, a reactivation peak associated with the localized attack around NbC, different from that of intergranular corrosion, is observed for the solution annealed 347 SS. For solution annealed Alloy 600, matrix corrosion and localized attack around TiC with distinct anodic peaks appeared in the EPR curves are seen in the $H_2SO_4$+ KSCN electrolyte. With proper adjustment of elect rolyte composition, the contribution from intergranular corrosion, as a result of chromium carbide precipitation along the grain boundaries, can be distingui shed from the matrix and localized corrosion for the sensitized Alloy 600.
