  • Arc-melted Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-4Fe and Ti-(1,2) Si alloys were oxidized at 700, 800, 900 and $1000^{\circ}C$ in air. The oxidation resistance of Ti-4Fe was comparable to that of Ti-6Al-4V, while the oxidation resistance of Ti-(1,2) Si was superior to that of Ti-6Al-4V. Ti-2Si displayed the best oxidation resistance among the four alloys, but failed after oxidation at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 17h. The oxide scale formed on Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-4Fe and Ti-(1,2)Si consisted of ($TiO_2$ and a small amount of $Al_2$$O_3$), ($TiO_2$ and a small amount of dissolved iron), and ($TiO_2$ plus a small concentration of amorphous $SiO_2$), respectively. The oxide grains of the surface scale of the four alloys were generally fine and round.

Fe-30at.%A1 합금의 압연성에 미치는 Cr, B, Ti 및 Si 첨가효과 (Effects of Cr, B, Ti and Si on Rolling Characteristics in Fe-30at.%A1 Alloy)

  • Some alloying elements such as Cr, B, Ti and Si were added individually or as a mixture to Fe-30 at.%Al alloys. The alloys were melted using an arc furnace and then heat-treated for homogenization at 1000$^{\circ}C$ for 7 days and followed by rolling at 1000$^{\circ}C$. The alloying elements on rolling characteristics were investigated by the microstructures and fracture mode before and after rolling. The microstructures before rolling showed that all of the alloys had equiaxed grains. On the other hand, the microstructures of rolling plane as well as its perpendicular plane became elongated after rolling. The alloys such as Fe-30Al, Fe-30Al-3Ti, Fe-30Al-0.5B, Fe-30Al-5Cr and Fe-30Al-3Ti-0.5B revealed better rolling behaviour from the point that intergranular and cleavage fractures were not fundamentally occurred. But the addition of 5Ti or 3Si to Fe-Al alloys had detrimental effects. The Ti-added alloy system such as Fe-30Al-5Ti, Fe-30Al-5Ti-5Cr, Fe-30Al-3Ti-5Cr and Fe-30Al-5Ti-0.5B were cracked through grain and showed cleavage fracture. The Si-added alloy system such as Fe-30Al-5Si, Fe-27Al-3Si and Fe-27Al-5Cr-3Si were cracked along the grain boundary and showed intergranular fracture. $DO_3{\leftrightarrow}B_2$ transition temperature of Fe-30at.%Al alloy was 520$^{\circ}C$, whereas the addition of 3Ti and 3Ti+0.5B comparably increased the temperature to 797 and 773$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

주조용 티타늄 신합금 개발 (Development of New Titanium Alloys for Castings)

  • A new titanium alloy system. Ti-xFe-ySi (x,y=0-4 wt%). was designed and characterized with the point at low cost and high strength for casting applications. Fe improved room and elevated temperature mechanical properties owing to solid solution hardening and beta phase stabilization. Si yielded titanium silicides and Si addition over 1 wt% resulted in poor ductility due to coarse silicide chains at prior beta boundaries. The optimum composition was found to be Ti-4Fe-(0.5-1)Si in the viewpoint of tensile strength and ductility which are comparable to the Ti-6Al-4V. The metal-mould reaction was also examined for Ti-xFe and Ti-xSi binary alloy system. The thickness of surface reaction layer w as not affected significantly with Fe content, while it was decreased with Si content. In the Ti-4Si alloy, no reaction layer was found. The depth of surface hardening layer was about $200\mum$ regardless of the mould materials.

Ag-Ti계 합금을 사용한 SiC/SiC 및 SiC/연강 브레이징에서 브레이징 조건이 접합강도에 미치는 영향의 연구 (The effects of brazing conditions on the bond strength of the SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel joints brazed by Ag-Ti based alloys)

  • The microstructure and bond strength were investigated on the SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel joints brazed by Ag-5at%Ti alloy. Ag-5at%Ti-2at%Fe and -5at%Fe brazing alloys were also used to see the effects of Fe addition on the bond strength of SiC/SiC brazed joints. Brazing temperature and brazing gap were selected and examined as brazing variables. The microstructure of SiC/SiC brazed joints was affected by Fe addition to the Ag-5at%Ti alloy, but the bond strength was not. Increasing brazing temperature also changed the microstructure of $Ti_5Si_3$ reaction layer and brazing alloy matrix of the SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel joints, but not the bond strength. Brazing gap had a great effects on the bond strength. Decreasing brazing gap from 0.2 mm to 0.1 mm in SiC/SiC brazing increased the bond strength from 187 MPa to 263 MPa and, in SiC/mild steel brazing, from 189 MPa to 212 MPa. It was concluded that the most important parameter on the bond strength in SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel brazing was the relative ratio between brazing gap and specimen size.

  • 본 연구에서는 Al-10wt%Ti-4wt%Fe 복합재료를 in-situ공정으로 제조할 수 있는 가능성 및 2 원계 Al-10wt%Ti 복합재료의 낮은 기계적 성질(탄성계수, 상온 고온강도, 내마모특성 등)을 PM SiC/2124 복합재료 수준 흑은 그 이상으로 향상시킬 수 있는 가능성을 조사하였다. 제조된 Al-10wt%Ti-4wt%Fe 합금은 불연속 SiC 강화상으로 보강된 Al-기지 복합재료($SiC{w}$/2124)와 유사한 미세구조를 보여주었으며, 탄성계수 및 인장강도, 내마모성질 등의 기계적 특성이 2원계 Al-10%Ti 합금각 비교해 현저하게 향상되었음이 관찰되었다. 위의 결과는 초정 $Al_3Ti$상 외에도 Fe 원소의 첨가를 통한 추가적인 $Al_{x}Fe$의 분산강화 효과에 기인한 것으로 해석된다.

Ag-Ti계 합금을 사용한 SiC/SiC 및 SiC/연강 브레이징에 대한 연구 (A Study on SiC/SiC and SiC/Mild steel brazing by the Ag-Ti based alloys)

  • The microstructure and bond strength are examined on the SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel joints brazed by the Ag-Ti based alloys with different Ti contents. In the SiC/SiC brazed joints, the thickness of the reaction layers at the bond interface and the Ti particles in the brazing alloy matrices increase with Ti contents. When Ti is added up to 9 at% in the brazing alloy. $Ti_3SiC_2$ phase in addition to TiC and $Ti_5Si_3$ phase is newly created at the bond interface and TiAg phase is produced from peritectic reaction in the brazing alloy matrix. In the SiC/mild steel joints brazed with different Ti contents, the microstructure at the bond interface and in the brazing alloy matrix near SiC varies similarly to the case of SiC/SiC brazed joints. But, in the brazing alloy matrix near the mild steel, Fe-Ti intermetallic compounds are produced and increased with Ti contents. The bond strengths of the SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel brazed joints are independent on Ti contents in the brazing alloy. There are no large differences of the bond strength between SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel brazed joints. In the SiC/mild steel brazed joints, Fe dissolved from the mild steel does not affect on the bond strength of the joints. Thermal contraction of the mild steel has nearly no effects on the bond strength due to the wide brazing gap of specimens used in the four-point bend test. The brazed joints has the average bond strength of about 200 MPa independently on Ti contents, Fe dissolution and joint type. Fracture in four-point bend test initiates at the interface between SiC and TiC reaction layer and propagates through SiC bulk. The adhesive strength between SiC and TiC reaction layer seems to mainly control the bond strength of the brazed joints.

  • 나노재료 $TiO_2-SiO_2$는 2-prOH(2-propanol)를 용매로 사용하여 가수분해와 축합반응으로 제조하였고, FT-IR, DSC, XRD, FE-SEM을 사용하여 $TiO_2-SiO_2$의 특성을 조사하였다. FT-IR분석으로부터 Ti-0-Si의 흡수피크에 대해 설명하였으며, DSC분석 결과를 Ozawa 방정식에 적용하여, 결정화에 필요한 활성화 에너지를 계산하였다. 결정학적 특징은 XRD를 이용하여 하소 온도의 변화에 따른 시료의 회절패턴과 반가폭의 변화 등에 관련하여 설명하였다. FE-SEM을 통하여 Ti mol$\%$가 증가할수록 입자크기가 커지는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.

  • Fe and Si are common impurity elements in the aluminum alloys. In this investigation, the effects of the addition of Fe and Si on the age-hardening behaviors of the Al-Cu-Mn-Ti-Zr-Cd casting alloys were examined through hardness measurements, calorimetric techniques and observation of the transmission electron microscopy. The addition of Fe depresses the formation of GPII and ${\theta}'$, and thus retards the peak aging time and reduces the peak hardness of the Al-Cu-Mn-Ti-Zr-Cd alloys. On the contrary, the addition of Si accelerates the formation of GPII and ${\theta}'$ and thus accelerates age-hardening behaviors of the Al-Cu-Mn-Ti-Zr-Cd alloys.

  • Sintered Si3N4 and Inconel composed of Ni(58-63%) Cr(21-25%) Al(1-17%) Mn(<1%) fe(balance) were pressurelessly joined by using Ag-Cu-Ti brazing filler metal at 950℃ and 1200℃ under N2 gas atmosphere of 1atm and their interfacial structures were investigated. In case that the reaction temperature was low as 950℃ its interfacial structure was "Inconel metal/Ti-rich phase layer/brazing filler metal layer/Si3N4 " Ti used as reactive metal existed in between inconel steel and brazing metal and moved to the interface of between brazing filler metal nd Si3N4 according as reaction temperature increased up to 1200℃. The interfacial structure of inconel steel-Si3N4 reacted at 1200℃ was ' inconel metal/Ni-rich phase layer containing of Fe. Cr and Si/Cu-rich phase layer containing of Mn and Si/Si3N4 " Cr Mn, Ni and Fe diffused to the interface of between brazing filler metal and Si3N4 and reacted with Si3N4 The most reactive components of ingredients of inconel metal were Cr and Mn. On the other hand Ti added as reactive components to Ag-Cu eutectic segregated into Ni-rich phase layer,.

자기저항 헤드용 Ni-Fe-Co/Cu/Ni-Fe-Co/Fe-Mn 다층박막의 자기적 성질에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Magnetic Properties in Ni-Fe-Co/Cu/Ni-Fe-Co/Fe-Mn Multilayered Thin Films for Magnetoresistive Head)

  • 자기저항헤드용 Ni-Fe-Co/Cu/Ni-Fe-Co/Fe-Mn 다층박막에서 자기적 성질과 전기적 성질에 관하여 조사하였다. 저 포화자계에서 고 자기저항을 나타내는 스핀 밸브형 다층박막을 제작하기 위하여 Borond이 도핑된 p-type Si(100)기판위에 Ni-Fe-Co 단층박막과 Si/Ni-Fe-Co/Cu/Ni-FeCo, Si/Ni-Fe-Co/Fe-Mn 구조의 다층막을 제작하여 자기적 특성을 조사하였다. Ni-Fe-Co 단층박막의 자기적 특성은 고정된 아르곤 분압에서 박막의 두께 등에 의존성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 Si/Ni-Fe-Co($70AA$)/Fe-Mn 구조에서 Ni-Fe-Co와 Fe-Mn 계면에서의 두 자성층의 이방성 차이에 의해서 발생되어지는 교환자기이방성이 존재하였으며, 교환자기이방성자계값은 Fe-Mn 두께가 $150\AA$일 때 가장 큰 값을 나타내었다. Ni-Fe-Co texture와 교환자기이방성자계값은 Fe-Mn 두께가 $150\AA$일 때 가장 큰 값을 나타내었다. Ni-Fe-Co texture와 교환자기이방성자계값의 의존성을 알아보기 위하여 Ti, Cu를 바닥층으로 사용하였다. Ti을 바닥층으로 사용하였을 경우, 교환자기이방성자계값은 23.5 Oe 정도의 가장 큰 값을 나타내었다. XRD 분석결과, Ti 바닥층이 Cu 바닥층이나, 바닥층이 없는 경우와 비교하여 성막된 Ni-Fe-Co 자성층의 강한 fcc(111) texture를 형성하는 것으로 나타났다. 각각의 단층박막과 다층박막에서의 자기적 특성을 측정한 후, Si/Ti($50\AA$)/Ni-Fe-Co($70\AA$)/Cu($23\AA$)/Ni-Fe-Co($70\AA$)/Fe-Mn(150$\AA$)/Cu(50$\AA$)의 스핀밸브구조를 갖는 다층박막을 제작하였으며, 11 Oe의 낮은 포화자계값에서 4.1%의 고 자기저항값을 얻을 수 있었다.
