Synthesis of Si alloys as the negative electrode material for lithium ion battery (고용량 리튬이온 전지용 음극 활물질로서 실리콘 합금 제조)

  • The phase forming ability and formation enthalpies(${\Delta}H$) of Si-M(M = Ti, Cu, Ni, Zr) compound alloys were predicted by Miedema's model. The silicon compound alloys were synthesized by mechanical alloying and then characterized for the phase formation by X -ray diffraction. The electrochemical properties as the anode materials for lithium ion batteries were investigated using a galvanostatic method. It appears that the electrochemical characteristics of Si-M alloys can be predicted from the thermodynamic criteria for the phase formation using the Miedema's model.

  • A variety of the porcelain fused to gold(PFG) have been developed to which porcelain can be fused. PFG alloys developed for this purposed have a high melting point and do not discolor when combined with porcelain. The design of the compositions of PFG is very important to esthetic restorative materials applying to porcelain. The purpose of this study is on the change of physical and mechanical characteristics in PFG 18K alloy by the small additional elements. Principal results are as follows. The high Au alloy containing 18Karat gold contents is respectively Au(75%), Pd(10%), Pt(4%), Ag(4%), In(2%), Sn(2%), Cu(2%), Ti(1%). These alloys are composed mainly of gold, platinum, silver and palladium with a few percent of the additional elements. By the addition of small amounts of elements such as In, Sn, Ti, the fine grain castings are produced in gold alloy and the small addition of platinum is very effective in increasing of hardness and strength. These gold alloys are representative of the changes to be expected as a result of heat treatment. These changes in strength and hardness values are sufficient to demonstrate a significant difference in performance between a as-casted and a heat-treated. These alloys have mechanical properties characteristics of Type and Type gold alloys. These alloys are useful to porcelain-metal restorations and dental laboratory. Also the porcelain fused to metal(PFM) alloys containing gold are commonly use for dental purposes in dental laboratory.

The Effect of Grain Refinement on Fluidity of Al-4.8%CU-0.6%Mn Alloy (입자미세화가 Al-4.8%Cu-0.6%Mn 합금의 유동도에 미치는 영향)

  • A good fluidity of high strength Al-alloys is required to cast thin wall castings needed to reduce the weight of cast parts. The fluidity, measured as the length to which the metal flows in a standard channel, is affected by many factors, such as the pouring temperature, solidification type of the alloy, the channel thickness, melt head, mold materials and temperature, coating etc. Therefore the experimentally measured fluidity scatters very much and makes it difficult to estimate the fluidity of a melt with a few measurements. The effect of Ti content and grain refinement on the fluidity of high strength aluminum alloy was investigated with a test casting with 8 thin flow channels to reduce the scattering of the fluidity results. The fluidity of Al-4.8%Cu-0.6%Mn Al-6.2%Zn-1.6%Mg-1.0%Cu and well-known commercial aluminum alloy, A356 was tested. Initial content of Ti was varied from 0 to 0.2wt% and Al-5Ti-B master alloy was added for grain refinement. The flow length varied linearly with superheat. By adding Ti and Al-5Ti-B, the fluidity increased. The grain size decreased by adding grain refiner at the same time. The fluidity depended on the degree of grain refinement. The fluidity of the alloy solidifying in mushy type is improved by grain refinement, because grain refinement increases the solid fraction at the time of flow stoppage.

Low Temperature Diffusion Brazing of Commercial Pure(CP)-Ti alloy with Zr-based Filler Metal (Zr기 필러메탈을 이용한 상용 순 티타늄(CP-Ti) 합금의 저온 브레이징 특성)

  • Titanium and its alloys can be usually joined with brazing method. And the alloys should be brazed at low temperature to keep their original microstructure. In this study, the mechanical strength and microstructure of the CP-Ti joint-brazed with $Zr_{54}Ti_{22}Ni_{16}Cu_8$ filler metal having melting temperature of $774{\sim}783^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The tensile strengths of the joint-brazed at $800^{\circ}C$ with $100^{\circ}C/min$ of cooling rate showed more than 400 MPa which was as high as base metal. The $Widmanst{\ddot{a}}tten$ structure consisting of Ti and $Ti_2Ni$ phase was observed in the joint area. However, the tensile strengths of the joint-brazed at $800^{\circ}C$ with $15^{\circ}C/min$ of cooling rate were decreased and the Ti, $(Ti,Zr)_2Ni$ and $Ti_2Ni$ phases were observed at the joint area. It is believed that the $(Ti,Zr)_2Ni$ laves phases could decrease the mechanical strength of the joint and the cooling rate should be controled to get high strength of the titanium joint.

Plastic Behaviro of Two Phase Intermetallic Compounds Based on $Li_2$-type$(Ai, Cr)_3$/Ti ($Li_2$$(Ai, Cr)_3$/Ti기 2상 금속간화합물의 소성거동)

  • Plastic behavior of two-phase intermetallic compounds based on $LI_{2}$-type $(Al, Cr)_3$ Ti was investigated using compression test at R.T. and 77K. $LI_{2}$ single phase alloys and two-phase alloys consisting of mainly $LI_{2}$ phase and a few or 20% second phases were selected from AI-Ti-Cr phase diagram. In general, compared with Llz single phase, two-phase alloys consisting of 20% second phase showed relatively high yield strength and poor ductility. Among the alloys, however, AI-21Ti-23Cr alloy consisting of 20% $Cr_{2}Al$ phase showed available ductility as well as high yield strength. Plastic behavior of $LI_{2}$ single phase alloys and two-phase alloys consisting of a few% $Cr_{2}Al$ was also investigated. Homogenization of arc melted ingots substantially reduced the amount of second phases but introduced extensive pore. When Cr content increased in $Ll_{2}$ single phase alloys after the homogenization, the volume fraction of pore in the alloys decreased, and no residual pore was observed in two-phase alloys consisting of a few% $Cr_{2}Al$ phase. Environmental effect on the ductility of the alloys was investigated using compression test at different strain rates($1.2 \times 10^{-4}/s$ and $1.2 \times 10^{-2}/s$). Environmental embrittlement was least significant in A1-25Ti-10Cr alloy consisting of LIZ single phase among the alloys tested in this study. However, based on the combined estimation of the pore formation, environmental embrittlement and ingot cast structure, AI-21Ti-23Cr alloy consisting of 20% $Cr_{2}Al$ as the second phase is expected to show the best tensile elongation behavior.

  • The popularity of Ni-Cr-Mo based metal alloys for metal-ceramic crown have increased recently because of low price, superior yield strength and rigidity. the use of these alloys give them the potential advantage of thinner copping with the required rigidity for long span bridges. The purpose of this study was to assess the microstructures and mechanical properties of Ni-Cr-Mo-(Si,Al,Nb,Zr,Ti.Cu,Mm) based Alloys not containing beryllium(Be) related toxic effects. The abtained results indicated that as-cast these specimen alloys showed compositional and microstructural differences, and mechanical properties values of Ni69Cr20Mo5Si2Al4 alloy among these specimen alloys was found to be superior to those of commercial Ni-Cr based alloy using in market place today.

  • Abstract The increasing application of $Al_2$,$O_3$ and related ceramics as engineering materials is because of their attractive properties of fine ceramics. One solution to the wide variety of ceramic to metal combination lies in the effective joining. Active metal brazing of $Al_2$,$O_3$, to STS304 was investigated using Cu -Ti alloys. Titanium additive is chosen since it is good oxide former~. Brazing is performed under vacuum($10^{-3}$-$10^{-4}$ torr), a temperature between 1100 and 120$0^{\circ}C$ and time of 0.5-1.5hr. The microstructure of the brazed joints of $Al_2$,$O_3$ to STS304 with Cu-Ti insert metals were examined by using optical microscope and SEM and reaction products were analyzed by using EDX, WDX and XRD. Also interfacial reactions occuring during the brazing of $Al_2$,$O_3$/Cu-Ti/STS304 system are discussed. Experimental results showed formation of Titanium oxide T$i_2$$O_3$ which is attributable to the joining $Al_2$,$O_3$ to STS304 with Cu-Ti insert metal.

  • In this experiment, a Ti-based flat hydrogen separation membrane was designed and manufactured. In order to find a Ti-based hydrogen separation membrane of a new composition, the correlation between the physical-chemical properties and hydrogen permeability of various alloys was investigated. Based on this, two types of new alloy films (Ti14.2Zr66.4Ni12.6Cu6.8 (70 ㎛), Ti17.3Zr62.7Ni20 (80 ㎛)) was designed and manufactured. The manufactured flat hydrogen separation membrane was tested for hydrogen permeation using mixed gas (H2, N2) and sweep gas (Ar) at 300~500℃ and 1~4 bar. The Ti14.2Zr66.4Ni12.6Cu6.8 alloy film has a maximum flux of 16.35 mL/cm2 min at 500℃ and 4 bar, and the Ti17.3Zr62.7Ni20 alloy film has a maximum flux of 10.28 mL/cm2 min at 450℃ and 4 bar.

Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Rapidly Solidified Zr-Ni-Cu-Al-Ti Alloy (급냉응고법으로 제조한 Zr-Ni-Cu-Al-Ti 합금의 열적, 기계적 성질)

  • The thermal and mechanical properties of amorphous Z $r_{62-x}$N $i_{10}$C $u_{20}$A $l_{8}$ $Ti_{x}$ (x=3, 6, 9at%) alloys were investigated. The crystallization process was confirmed as amorphous longrightarrow amorphous + Z $r_2$A $l_3$+ Zr + (Ni,Ti) longrightarrow Z $r_2$Cu + Al + (Ni,Ti) for 3at%Ti, amorphous longrightarrow amorphous + Al longrightarrow $Al_2$Ti + NiZr + CuTi for 6at%Ti and amorphous longrightarrow amorphous + Zr + Al longrightarrow Zr + $Al_2$Zr + Al $Ti_3$+ CuTi for 9at%Ti. lickers hardness ( $H_{v}$ ) increased with increasing volume fraction( $V_{f}$ ) of pricipitates for all concerned compositions. Tensile fracture strength ($\sigma_{f}$ ) showed a maximum value 1219MPa at $V_{f}$ = 38% for 3at%Ti, 1203MPa at $V_{f}$ = 2% for 6at%Ti and 1350MPa at $V_{f}$ = 5% for 9at%Ti. The $\sigma_{f}$ was rapidly decreased after showing the maximum value. The $V_{f}$ corresponding to rapidly decreased $\sigma_{f}$ coincided with the $V_{f}$ transited from ductile to brittle fracture surface.ace.

The Brazing Characters of cBN Grit with Ag-based Filler Alloys (cBN 지립과 Ag계 필러합금에서의 브레이징 특성)

  • 철계 피삭재 가공 시 적용되는 cBN(cubic Boron-Nitride)의 경우 열적/구조적 안정성으로 인해 융착 시 계면에서 화학적 결합이 어려워, 지립이 단일층으로 형성되어야 하는 융착 공구의 경우 적용되질 못하고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 세라믹과의 젖음성이 우수한 Ti 성분이 포함된 67Ag+28Cu+5Ti(wt.%) 조성의 합금분말을 이용하여 cBN을 접합을 하였으며, 이때 융착조건은 진공 분위기($6{\times}10^{-6}$Torr), $900^{\circ}C$ 온도에서 5분간 유지하여 융착을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주목적은 Ti 합금화 된 Ag계 합금분말 및 cBN의 융착 계면에서의 융착 계면거동해석을 통한 건전한 접합공정을 찾는데 있다. 이에 온도 $900^{\circ}C$, 유지시간 5분에서 건전한 융착층을 형성함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 결합력 측정기를 이용하여 결합력을 측정한 결과 diamond와 융착하였을 때가 123N, cBN을 융착하였을 때 107N으로써, cBN 융착이 diamond 융착의 87%정도의 결합력을 보임을 알 수 있었다. 한편 cBN과 Ag-Cu-Ti계 브레이징 필러의 계면에서의 미세조직 및 화학반응의 메커니즘은 SEM, EDS를 이용하여 분석하였다.
