The heterolayered thick/thin structure consisting of $Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ and $BaTiO_3(BT)$ were fabricated by a sol-gel process. PZT powders, prepared by the sol-gel method, were mixed with an organic vehicle and the PZT thick films were fabricated by the screen printing techniques on alumina substrate with Pt electrodes. The microstructural and dielectric characteristics of the stacked heterolayered PZT/BT/PZT films were investigated by varying the number of coating $BaTiO_3$ layers. The existence of a $BaTiO_3$ layer between the PZT thick films of the tri-layer $Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3/BaTiO_3/Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3$thick/thin/thick film can greatly improve the leakage current properties of the PZT thick films. The average thickness of a PZT(5248)/$BaTiO_3$ heterolayered thick/thin film was 25$\mu$m. The relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the PZT(5248)/$BaTiO_3$-3 heterolayered thin film coated three times were 1087 and 1.00% at 1[MHz].
The TiC layer was formed on Ti and Ti alloys by plasma carburizing method. The main experimental parameters for plasma car boozing were temperature and time. XRD, EDX, hardness test and corrosion test were employed to analyze the evolution and material properties of the layer. The preferred orientation of TiC layers is (220) at treated temperature of $700^{\circ}C\;and\;880^{\circ}C$ However, it is changed to (200) at temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ The thickness of carbide layer increase with increasing carburizing temperature. Highest hardness of hardened layer formed on CP-Ti was obtained at the carburizing condition of processing temperature $880^{\circ}C$ and processing time 1080min. The corrosion potential of carburizing specimen was higher than untreated CP-titanium, and corrosion potential increased as carburizing temperature and time increased. Thus the corrosion resistance of CP-Ti was greatly enhanced after plasma carburizing treatment.

$Ti_{0.26}Al_{0.16}Si_{0.01}N_{0.57}$ (at%) coatings were synthesized on stainless steel 304 by using arc ion plating systems (AIPS). Targets employed for the deposition were Ti, AlSi(67:33at%) and AlSi(82:18at%). The thickness of TiAlSiN coatings is $4{\mu}m$. The oxidation characteristics of the deposited coatings were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in air between 800 and $900^{\circ}C$ for 75 hr. The oxide scale formed on the TiAlSiN coatings consisted of $rutile-TiO_2$ layer and ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$. At $800^{\circ}C$, the coatings oxidized relatively slowly, and the scales were thin and adherent. When oxidized above $900^{\circ}C$, $TiO_2$ grew fast over the mixed oxide layer, and the oxide scale formed on TiAlSiN coatings was prone to spallation. Microstructural changes of the TiAlSiN coatings that occurred during high temperature oxidation were investigated by EPMA, XRD, SEM and TEM.

The TiCrN Coatings haying three kinds of Compositions of $Ti_{36}$$Cr_{26}$$N_{38}$ , $Ti_{31}$$Cr_{35}$$N_{34}$ / and $Ti_{14}$$Cr_{52}$$N_{34}$ were deposited on STD 61 steel substrate by arc ion plating and were oxidized between 700 and 100$0^{\circ}C$ to identify the oxide scales formed on the coatings. The oxide scales were then analyzed using EPMA, XRD and GAXRD. During oxidation, the coatings consisting of TiN and CrN phases were reduced to TiO2 and $Cr_2$$O_3$, respectively. Titania tended to form at the outer oxide layer, whereas chromia tended to form at the inner oxide layer, owing to the different oxygen affinity. The substrate elements as well as coating elements diffused outwardly toward the oxide layer due to the concentration gradient. The growth of oxide from the TiCrN coatings was schematically expressed on the basis of thickness measurement of the reacted and unreacted coatings. The Cr element showed its stronger role to keep the TiCrN coatings from oxidation, when compared with Ni.

The structural, electrical properties of $(Ba, Sr)TiO_3[BSTO]/RuO_2$ thin films were examined by the addition of amorphous BSTO layer between crystlline BSTO film and $RuO_2$ substrate. We prepared BSTO films with double-layered structure, that is, amorphous layers deposited at $60^{\circ}C$ and crystalline films. Crystalline films were prepared at 550 on amorphous BSTO layer. The thickness of the amorphous layers was varied from 0 to 170 nm. During the deposition of crystalline films, the crystallization of the amorphous layers occurred and the structure was changed to circular while crystalline BSTO films showed columnar structure. Due to insufficient annealing effect, amorphous BSTO phase was observed when the thickness of the amorphous layers exceeded 30 nm. Amorphous BSTO layer could also prevent the formation of oxygen deficient region in $RuO_2$ surface. Leakage current of total BSTO films decreased with increasing amorphous layer thickness due to structural modifications. Dielectric constant showed maxi-mum value of 343 when amorphous layer thickness was 30 nm at which the improvement by grain growth and the degradation by amorphous phase were balanced.
In this study, the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells with different thickness of the photelectrode film was simulated by using the electron-diffusion differential model. Through this simulation, the relationships between the thickness of the photoelectrode film and the performances (open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current density, and overall photoelectric-conversion efficiency) of cells were understood and the performances with different thickness of the photoelectrede film were also examined. For considering the refractive index in the liquid electrolyte and exploring the scattering effect of titanium dioxide particles with different sizes using the Mie light-scattering theory, the highest scattering effect of each particles was found out and the optimal size of the titanium dioxide particle was determined for light scattering in the photoelectrode film of dye-sensitized solar cell. Through experiment, the mixed titanium dioxide cell was better than the single titanium dioxide cell and generated a higher overall conversion efficiency because the optimal titanium dioxide particles in the phoelectrode film as light scattering.

$Pt/SrTiO_3/Pb_x(Zr_{0.52}, Ti_{0.48})O_3/SrTiO_3/Si$ structure was prepared by rf-magnetron sputtering method for use in nondestructive read out ferroelectric RAM(NDRO-FEAM). PBx(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3}$(PZT) and $SrTiO_3$(STO) films were deposited respectively at the temperatures of $300^{\circ}C and 500^{\circ}C$on p-Si(100) substrate. The role of the STO film as a buffer layer between the PZT film and the Si substrate was studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Auger electron spectroscopy (ASE), and scanning electron microscope(SEM). Structural analysis on the interfaces was carried out using a cross sectional transmission electron microscope(TEM). For PZT/Si structure, mostly Pb deficient pyrochlore phase was formed due to the serious diffusion of Pb into the Si substrate. On the other hand, for STO/PZT/STO/Si structure, the PZT film had perovskite phase and larger grain size with a little Pb interdiffusion. the interfaces of the PZT and the STO film, of the STO film and the interface layer and $SiO_2$, and of the $SiO_2$ and the Si substate had a good flatness. Across sectional TEM image showed the existence of an amorphous layer and $SiO_2$ with 7nm thickness between the STO film and the Si substrate. The electrical properties of MIFIS structure was characterized by C-V and I-V measurements. By 1MHz C-V characteristics Pt/STO(25nm)/PZT(160nm)/STO(25nm)/Si structure, memory window was about 1.2 V for and applied voltage of 5 V. Memory window increased by increasing the applied voltage and maximum voltage of memory window was 2 V for V applied. Memory window decreased by decreasing PZT film thickness to 110nm. Typical leakage current was abour $10{-8}$ A/cm for an applied voltage of 5 V.
In this study, optical emission spectroscopy was used to monitor the plasma produced during the RF magnetron sputtering of a $BaTiO_3$ target. The intensities of chemical species were measured by real time monitoring with various discharge parameters such as RF power, pressure, and discharge gas. The emission lines of elemental and ionized species from $BaTiO_3$ and Ti targets were analyzed to evaluate the film composition and the optimized growth conditions for $BaTiO_3$ films. The emissions from Ar(I, II), Ba(I, II) and Ti(I) were found during sputtering of the $BaTiO_3$ target in Ar atmosphere. With increasing RF power, all the line intensities increased because the electron density increased with increasing RF power. When the Ar pressure increased, the Ba(II) and Ti(I) line intensity increased, but the $Ar^+$ line intensity decreased with increasing pressure. This result shows that high pressure is of greater benefit for the ionization of Ba than for that of Ar. Oxygen depressed the intensity of the plasma more than Ar did. When the Ar/$O_2$ ratio decreased, the intensity of Ba decreased more sharply than that of Ti. This result indicates that the plasma composition strongly depends on the discharge gas atmosphere. When the oxygen increased, the Ba/Ti ratio and the thickness of the films decreased. The emission spectra showed consistent variation with applied power to the Ti target during co-sputtering of the $BaTiO_3$ and Ti targets. The co-sputtered films showed a Ba/Ti ratio of 1.05 to 0.73 with applied power to the Ti target. The films with different Ba/Ti ratios showed changes in grain size. Ti excess films annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ did not show the second phase such as $BaTi_2O_5$ and $TiO_2$.

Organic solar cell was fabricated using one-pot deposition of a mixture of NiO nanoparticles, P3HT and PCBM. In the presence of NiO, the photovoltaic performance was slightly increased comparing to that of the device without NiO. When $TiO_2$ thin films with a thickness of 2~3 nm was prepared on NiO nanoparticles using atomic layer deposition, the power conversion efficiency was increased by a factor 2.5 with respect to that with bare NiO. Moreover, breakdown voltage of the film consisting of NiO, P3HT, and PCBM on indium tin oxide was increased by more than 1 V in the presence of $TiO_2$-shell on NiO nanoparticles. It is evidenced that S atoms of P3HT can be oxidized on NiO surfaces, and $TiO_2$-shell on NiO nanoparticles. It is evidenced that S atoms of P3HT can be oxidzed on NiO surfaces, and $TiO_2$ shell heavily reduced oxidation of S at oxide/P3HT interfaces. Oxidized S atoms can most likely act as carrier generation sites and recombination centers within the depletion region, decreasing breakdown voltage and performance of organic solar cells. Our result shows that fabrication of various core-shell nanostruecutres of oxides by atomic layer deposition with controlled film thickness can be of potential importance for fabricating highly efficient organic solar cells.

The thermal stability of "stuffed" TiN/Ti barrier matals with different annealing history has been studied to improve the contact reliability of Al/Si contacts in 16M DRAM. The annealing conditions before the Al deposition such as film thickness, the annealing temperature and the annealing ambient have been varied. For TiN(900A)/Ti(300A) annealed at 450 in nitrogen ambient to form a "stuffed barrier" by inducing oxygen atoms into grain boundaries, there is no observation of Al penetrations into Si substrates after the post heat treatment of up to 700 even though there are massive amounts of Al found in TiN film after the post heat treatment of 600 indicating that TiN has a "sponge-like" function due to its ability to absorb several amounts of aluminum at elevated temperature. The TiN/Ti diffusion barrier annealed at 550 has, however, failed after the post heat treatment at 600. The thinner diffusion barriers with TiN(300A)/Ti(100A) failed after the post heat treatment at 600.he post heat treatment at 600.
