Creating protective appliances for preventing dental injury during endotracheal intubation using intraoral scanning and 3D printing: a technical note

  • Digital dentistry has influenced many dental procedures, such as three-dimensional (3D) diagnosis and treatment planning, surgical splints, and prosthetic treatments. Patient-specific protective appliances (PSPAs) prevent dental injury during endotracheal intubation. However, the required laboratory work takes time, and there is the possibility of tooth extraction while obtaining the dental impression. In this technical report, we utilized new digital technology for creating PSPAs, using direct intraoral scanners and 3D printers for dental cast fabrication.

  • Usual1y, common color systems have been expressed with two dimensional method such as books. We think that the three dimensional presentation of color is very useful to know the characteristics of the color palette for interior design. And, it might be convenient far planning the colors of interior design. This paper deals with the method of 3D presentation. We used AutoCAD 2000 and 3dMax 4.0 in modeling the color system. By presenting which parts of the munsell color system used in the colors which have appeared in interior design three dimensionally, the guideline fur the interior designers can be suggested.

Three-Dimensional Printing Assisted Preoperative Surgical Planning for Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation

  • Objective : The aim of this study to investigate the benefits of patient-based 3-dimensional (3D) cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) models for preoperative surgical planning and education. Methods : Fifteen patients were operated on for AVMs between 2015 and 2019 with patient-based 3D models. Ten patients' preoperative cranial angiogram screenings were evaluated preoperatively or perioperatively via patient-based 3D models. Two patients needed emergent surgical intervention; their models were solely designed based on their AVMs and used during the operation. However, the other patients who underwent elective surgery had the modeling starting from the skull base. These models were used both preoperatively and perioperatively. The benefits of patients arising from treatment with these models were evaluated via patient files and radiological data. Results : Fifteen patients (10 males and five females) between 16 and 66 years underwent surgery. The mean age of the patients was 40.0±14.72. The most frequent symptom patients observed were headaches. Four patients had intracranial bleeding; the symptom of admission was a loss of consciousness. Two patients (13.3%) belonged to Spetzler-Martin (SM) grade I, four (26.7%) belonged to SM grade II, eight (53.3%) belonged to SM grade III, and one (6.7%) belonged to SM grade IV. The mean operation duration was 3.44±0.47 hours. Three patients (20%) developed transient neurologic deficits postoperatively, whereas three other patients died (20%). Conclusion : Several technological innovations have emerged in recent years to reduce undesired outcomes and support the surgical team. For example, 3D models have been employed in various surgical procedures in the last decade. The routine usage of patient-based 3D models will not only support better surgical planning and practice, but it will also be useful in educating assistants and explaining the situation to the patient as well.

경골 근위부 골채취를 위한 내측 및 외측 접근법시의 삼차원적 길이계측 (THREE DIMENSIONAL LINEAR MEASUREMENT OF PROXIMAL TIBIA IN MEDIAL AND LATERAL APPROACH FOR BONE HARVESTING)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was simply assessing linear measurements in the lateral and medial approach, respectively, for bone harvesting using anatomic and three-dimensional(3D) computed tomographic(CT) analyses on a dried cadaveric proximal tibia. In addition, the availability of the three-dimensional computed tomographic(3D-CT) analysis was also estimated. Materials and methods: Ten dried proximal tibia were obtained from five Korean cadavers. Four the reference points, the SM(superior-medial), IM(inferior-medial), SL(superior-lateral), and IL(inferior-lateral) were marked around the tibial tuberosity. The PM(posterior-medial) and PL(posterior-lateral) points were randomly marked at points farthest from the lateral and medial reference points, respectively, in the posterior border of the superior articular surface of both condyles. All measurements were obtained on the dried proximal tibia. After computed tomography had been performed, the three dimensional images were reconstructed using V works $4.0^{TM}$(Cybermed Inc., Seoul, Korea), and the length between the reference points were measured three dimensionally using the method described above. The error between the mean actual and mean 3D-CT measurements was calculated in order to determine the availability of the three dimensional computed tomographic analysis. Results: The length between the reference points was greatest at the IL-PM, which averaged $65.39mm{\pm}10.35$. This was followed by the SL-PM with $63.24mm{\pm}8.10$, the IM-PL with $58.09mm{\pm}10.02$, and the SM-PL with $51.99mm{\pm}9.06$. The differences between the IL-PM and SM-PL were 13.4 mm. The mean values were 55.04 mm in the medial approach and 64.32 mm in the lateral approach, and the differences between medial and lateral were 9.28 mm. The error between the mean actual and mean 3D-CT measurements was 0.31% and the standard deviation was 0.28%. Conclusion: The anatomical and three dimensional computed tomographic analysis indicates that there was only a 9.28 mm linear difference between the lateral and medial approach. This is consistent with previous studies, which showed that there was little difference between the two approaches in terms of the bone volume. In addition, the error(0.31%) and the standard deviation(0.28%) were considered low, demonstrating high accuracy of 3D-CT. Therefore it can be used in preoperative treatment planning.

  • 본 연구에서는 로봇이용의 자동화를 위하여 가장 필수적인 과정인 로봇의 운 동경로 계획에 관하여 연구하고 작업영역 내에 장애물이 있는 경우에 로봇과 장애물과 의 충돌 회피를 위한 정량적인 양으로 두물체간의 최소거리 및 충돌깊이를 효율적으로 계산할 수 있는 방법을 제안하며 이를 이용하여 로봇이 장애물과 충돌하지 않고 주어 진 작업을 수행할 수 있는 로봇의 경로를 자동으로 생성함으로써 로봇을 보다 상위레 벨에서 운용하기 위한 기초를 마련한다.

  • In this paper, new exploration mobile robot is presented. This mobile robot, called Robhaz-6W, is able to overcome hazardous terrains, recognize three dimensional terrain information and generate a path toward the destination by itself. We develop the passive four bar linkage mechanism adoptable to such terrain without any active control and the real time stereo vision system for obstacle avoidance, a remote control and a path planning method. And the geometrical information is transmitted to the operator in the remote site via wireless LAN equipment. And finally, experimental results for the passive mechanism, the real time stereo vision system, the path planning are reported, which show the versatility of the proposed mobile robot system to carry out some tasks.

Optimal Path Planning for UAVs to Reduce Radar Cross Section

  • Parameter optimization technique is applied to planning UAVs(Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) path under artificial enemy radar threats. The ground enemy radar threats are characterized in terms of RCS(Radar Cross Section) parameter which is a measure of exposure to the radar threats. Mathematical model of the RCS parameter is constructed by a simple mathematical function in the three-dimensional space. The RCS model is directly linked to the UAVs attitude angles in generating a desired trajectory by reducing the RCS parameter. The RCS parameter is explicitly included in a performance index for optimization. The resultant UAVs trajectory satisfies geometrical boundary conditions while minimizing a weighted combination of the flight time and the measure of ground radar threat expressed in RCS.

방향성 매니퓰러빌리티를 이용한 주행 매니퓰레이터의 운동 계획 (Motion Planning for a Mobile Manipulator using Directional Manipulability)

  • The coordination of locomotion and manipulation has been the typical and main issue for a mobile manipulator. This is particularly because the solution for the control parameters is redundant and the accuracies of controlling the each joints are different. This paper presents a motion planning method for which the mobile base locomotion is less precise than the manipulator control. In such a case, it is appropriate to move the mobile base to discrete poses and then to move the manipulator to track a prescribed path of the end effector, while the base is stationary. It uses a variant of the conventional manipulability measure that is developed for the trajectory control of the end effector of the mobile manipulator along an arbitrary path in the three dimensional space. The proposed method was implemented on the simulation and the experiments of a mobile manipulator and showed its effectiveness.

하지 연부조직육종을 위한 방사선치료기술 별 선량평가 연구 (A dosimetric evaluation of volumetric modulated arc therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, and three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy for the lower extremity soft tissue sarcoma)

  • 본원에서 수술 후 방사선치료를 수행한 하지 연부조직육종 환자에 대해 용적세기조절회전치료(VMAT), 세기조절방사선치료(IMRT), 3차원입체조영방사선치료(3D-CRT)의 세 가지 치료계획을 수립하여 치료계획용적(PTV)과 대퇴골에 전달되는 방사선량을 각각 비교하였다. 세 치료계획방법 모두 치료계획용적에 전달되는 방사선량은 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으나 용적세기조절회전치료와 세기조절방사선치료의 경우 3차원입체조영방사선치료보다 대퇴골에 전달되는 방사선량을 줄일 수 있었다. 또한 용적세기조절회전치료의 경우 세기조절방사선치료 보다 치료에 필요한 monitor unit이 적어 치료시간 감소의 효과가 나타났다. 따라서 하지 연부조직육종 방사선치료 시 용적세기조절회전치료의 사용은 효과적인 방사선치료를 수행할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

조기유방암환자의 이차원치료계획과 삼차원치료계획의 방사선조사범위의 차이 (Difference in the Set-up Margin between 2D Conventional and 3D CT Based Planning in Patients with Early Breast Cancer)

  • 목 적: 유방암 치료를 위한 방사선치료계획에 전산화단층촬영을 이용한 모의치료가 널리 이용되고 있다. 이는 환자 개개인의 해부학적 특징에 기반하여 종양 표적과 정상 조직을 정의할 수 있다. 본 연구는 일반적으로 유방 크기가 작은 한국인 유방암 환자에서 적용하는 방사선치료계획 방법에 따라 치료용적 및 치료범위에 차이가 있는지를 알아보기 위해 시행하였다. 대상 및 방법: 2008년 11월부터 2009년 1월까지 조기유방암으로 유방보존술을 시행 받은 25명의 환자를 대상으로 통상적인 접면조사의 이차원치료 계획과 전산화단층촬영을 기반으로 한 삼차원치료계획을 시행하였다. 이차원 치료계획에서 방사선조사영역의 경계는 유방실질을 촉지하여 결정하였고 위쪽으로는 쇄골의 바로 아래, 내측은 몸의 정중선, 외측은 중심 액와선 그리고 아래쪽은 유방밑주름에서 2 cm 아래에 표시하였다. 삼차원치료계획에서 임상표적체적은 모든 유선 조직을 포함하였고 계획용 표적체적은 임상표적체적에서 피부 쪽을 제외한 모든 방향으로 1 cm의 여유를 두어 결정하였다. 이차원과 삼차원치료계획 간의 조사영역의 경계 차이 및 동등조사영역의 차이를 확인하고 신체질량지수, 폐경 여부 및 유방크기의 관련성을 평가하였다. 그리고 선량분포로 지정한 유방조사량과 삼차원 선량분포에 기반하여 측정된 조사된 폐용적과 심장용적을 평가하였다. 결 과: 2명의 환자를 제외하고 계획용표적체적(PTV)은 삼차원치료계획이 이차원치료계획보다 모든 방향에서 표시한 방사선조사영역을 감소시켰고 위쪽 경계에서 그 차이값이 가장 컸다. 동등조사영역크기는 한 명을 제외하고 삼차원치료계획에서 이차원치료계획에서보다 작았으며(평균 0.9 cm), 신체질량지수, 폐경 여부 및 유방크기(브래지어 사이즈)와의 관련성은 보이지 않았다. 조사된 폐용적은 삼차원치료계획에서 유의하게 감소하였고, 심장용적 또한 감소하였지만 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 보이지 않았다. 결 론: 통상적인 치료계획과 비교하여 전산화단층촬영을 기반으로 한 삼차원치료계획이 작은 유방을 가진 환자에서 방사선조사영역 및 손상위험장기의 조사량을 줄이면서 수술 후 변화를 포함하여 더 정확한 종양치료가 가능할 수 있음을 보여주었다. 그러나 앞으로 임상표적체적의 정의에 대한 추가적인 연구 및 일반적인 합의가 필요하다.
