  • In this paper, the queueing system in series is studied. The system is a tandem queueing system which has three stations. In system, one service station has a general distributions and two service stations have exponential distribution. Each station has a single server. The customer arrives with Poisson process and is serviced sequentially. It is assumed that the order of stations does not affect the quality of services. Using the light traffic approximations, the optimal order of the system which has the three stations is decided.

  • Among alcohol preserved adult specimens of non-biting midges(Chironomidae, Diptera) which were collected at various localities in 1977-1978, three new species are identified and named Pentapedilum parasordens n. sp., Micropsectra koreana n.sp. and Rheotanytarsus gayaensis n. sp., which are fully described with illustration.

  • Dr. Jacques Dubochet, Dr. Joachim Frank, and Dr. Richard Henderson received the 2017 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for their efforts to develop effective ways to obtain high-resolution three-dimensional images of biomolecules using cryo-electron microscopy. Congratulations to the Nobel Prize in the field of electron microscopy, I will explain the scientific contributions of the three winners and introduce the role of cryo-electron microscopy (including cryo technology) in biology.

  • For fast capacitance computation, a simple mesh refinement technique on MLFMA(Multi-Level Fast Multipole Algorithm) is proposed The triangular meshes are refined mainly in the area which has heavy charge density. The technique is applied to the capacitance extraction of three dimensional conductors. The results show good convergence with comparable accuracy. An adaptive technique concerned with MLFMA is useful to reduce computation time and the number of elements without additional computational efforts in large three dimensional problems.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for a phase-segregated active power filter for three-phase electric system. Due to the symmetrical characteristic of three-phase system and the specialty of distribution system, the proposed algorithm focuses on the extraction of harmonic component of load current in each phase and simulations have been done by PLECS software to verify the validity of the proposed algorithm while loads are nonlinear.

  • This paper describes BIEM(Boundary Integral Equation Method) for computation of three dimensional electric field distribution and numerical method that an equivalent charge density is unknown variable. After computing numerically the surface charge distribution. the distribution of both potential and electric field are obtained. Finally, this numerical method is applied to the concentric sphere and the coaxial cylindrical model and numerical result is compared to the analytic solution.

  • In this paper, we solve the following functional equation $$af\(\frac{x+y+z}{b}\)+af\(\frac{x-y+z}{b}\)+af\(\frac{x+y-z}{b}\)+af\(\frac{-x+y+z}{b}\)=cf(x)+cf(y)+cf(z)$$, and prove the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of the functional equation as given above.

  • The Pressure-State-Response (PSR) framework was used to develop sustainability indicators for the Han River estuarine area. A total of 37 indicators in three categories were derived after reviewing previous studies. Some of these indicators were selected to assess the sustainability of the Han River estuary and its watershed. Some indicators provided contrasting information for judging the sustainability of the area. Even though very limited information was available for the meaningful assessment of the sustainability of the Han River estuarine area, there seems to be an appropriate base for the sustainable development of the area. Securing of reliable information seems to be the key for the indicators to produce meaningful assessment of the implementation of the sustainable development strategy for the Han River Estuary and its watershed. Integrated indices to synthesize the information provided by the sectoral indicators need to be developed to overcome the limitations of the sectoral indicators.

Development of Calf Link Force Sensors of Walking Assist Robot for Leg Patients (다리 환자를 위한 보행보조로봇의 종아리 링크 3축 힘센서 개발)

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of a three-axis force sensor with parallel plate beams (PPSs) for measuring the calf force while a patient with a walking assist robot is walking. Current walking assist robots can't measure the weight of the patient's leg and the robot's leg which required for robot control. So, the three-axis force sensor in the calf link is designed and manufactured, it is composed of a Fx force sensor, a Fy force sensor and a Fz force sensor. The three-axis force sensor was designed using by FEM(Finite Element Method), and fabricated using strain-gages. The characteristics experiment of the three-axis force sensor was carried out respectively. The test results indicated that the repeatability error and the non-linearity error of three-axis force sensor was less than 0.04% respectively. Therefore, the fabricated three-axis force sensor in the calf link can be used to measure the patient's calf force in the walking assist robot.

  • The analysis of fault current limiting characteristics according to variation of fault current level in the integrated three-phase flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), which consisted of three-phase flux-lock reactor wound on an iron core with the same turn's ratio between coil 1 and coil 2 for each single phase, was performed. To analyze the current limiting characteristics of this integrated three-phase flux-lock type SFCL, the short circuit experiments was carried out the various three-phase faults such as the single line-to-ground fault, the double line-to-ground fault, the triple line-to-ground fault. From the experimental results, the fault current limiting characteristic was improved according to increase of fault current level.
