  • Suppose that there are 8 abelian varieties defined over a number field K which satisfy a commutative diagram. We show that if we know that three out of four short exact sequences satisfy the rate formula of Tate-Shafarevich groups, then the unknown short exact sequence satisfies the rate formula of Tate-Shafarevich groups, too.

  • Objectives: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of incorporating three different nanobiomaterials into bleaching material on microhardness of bleached enamel. Materials and Methods: The crowns of 24 extracted sound human molars were sectioned. Sixty enamel specimens ($2{\times}3{\times}4 mm$) were selected and divided into five groups (n = 12): Group 1 received no bleaching procedure (control); Group 2 underwent bleaching with a 40% hydrogen peroxide (HP) gel; Groups 3, 4, and 5 were bleached with a 40% HP gel modified by incorporation of bioactive glass (BAG), amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and hydroxyapatite (HA), respectively. The enamel microhardness was evaluated. The differences in Knoop microhardness data of each group were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, followed by post hoc Tukey tests. Results: Significant differences were observed between the study groups. The enamel microhardness changes in Groups 1, 3, 4, and 5 were significantly lower than that of Group 2 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that incorporation of each one of the three tested biomaterials as remineralizing agents might be effective in decreasing enamel microhardness changes subsequent to in-office bleaching.

  • Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is popularly used in the horse industry to enhance regeneration of tissue injury that has limitation of blood supply. This study aimed to compare the methods for platelet rich plasma preparation since they has not been established yet. Blood was collected from six horses and platelets were concentrated by three different methods (2-step centrifugation, separated centrifugation and separated centrifugation using histopaque). Concentrated blood was analyzed using Advia hematology systems. In the result, separated centrifugation with histopaque showed the significantly lower number of red blood cells than other groups. The 2-step centrifugation showed the significantly higher number of white blood cells than other groups, while it contained the highest concentration of red blood cells among three groups. In the 2-step centrifugation, separated centrifugation and separated centrifugation with histopaque, platelets were concentrated 4.5, 5.3 and 5.6 times, respectively. And no significant difference of the platelet concentration between the three groups was found. This study demonstrated that separated centrifugation using histopaque was the best method for platelet rich plasma preparation because of the proper amount of platelets and the separation of red blood cells from platelet rich plasma.

  • The purposes of this study were (1) to segment the men in twenties and thirties according to apparel shopping orientation and (2) to create a profile for each group with regard to importance of store attributes, self-image and demographic variables. The questionnaire was administered to men in twenties and thirties living in Seoul and data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, factor analysis, cluster analysis, χ²-test, and one-way ANOVA. The results were as follows : 1) By cluster analysis of apparel shopping orientation factors, three groups were identified : (1) ostentatious shopper(44.5%), (2) practical shopper(21.8%), and (3) individuality-pursuit shopper(33.7%). 2) Three groups were compared on store attributes and self-image. Significant differences were found among the three groups on two variables. Ostentatious shoppers pursued the masculine and sophisticated image and tended to prefer the store image and reputation, convenient transportation and parking place, and variety of products. Practical shoppers pursued the self-image which reflected the conservative and not-noticeable image and considered the moderate price of the products most importantly. Finally, individuality-pursuit shoppers preferred the sexy and noticeable image and considered the display and accommodation of the trendy products. 3) In terms of the demographic variables the significant differences were found on education, occupation, monthly income, and marital status. In general ostentatious shoppers tended to earn higher monthly income than those of the two groups. Practical shoppers tended to be well-educated and individuality-pursuit shoppers tended not to be married.

  • The model rats with postmenopausal osteoporosis were comparatively observed with regard to the effects of bovine ash and calcium phosphate on calcium metabolism. The modelling design involved the five week-old week-old female SD-strain rats ovariectomized and fed a low-Ca diet(20% casein, 0.06% Ca and 0.38% P) for three weeks. The rats were divided into five groups, one of which was fed the low-Ca diet(basal), and the rest of which were divided into five groups, one of which was fed the low-Ca diet(basal), and the rest of which were fed four kinds of Ca-supplemental diets(20% protein, 1.06% Ca and 0.8% P) for three weeks. The Ca-suplements diets contained two kinds of Ca sources, bovine bone ash(BBA) or calcium phosphate, tribasic [Ca3(PO4)2] and two kinds of protein sources, casein or isolated soy protein(ISP). The model rats of postmenopausal osteoporosis fed basal diet showed a significant decrease in Ca utilization in reference to serum Ca concentration, breaking force of bone, Ca and P contents of bone, and Ca absorption and retention. However, the supply of Ca for three weeks demonstrated the improved utilization of Ca. One step further, BBA was more effective than calcium phosphate in improving Ca utilization in ISP-fed groups. On the other hand, no significant difference was seen in casein-fed groups. It is to conclude that BBA could be more effective in accelerating Ca utilization under vulnerable dietary or physiological conditions such as vegetable protein intake and osteoprosis.

  • Before studying the effectiveness of amitriptyline in alleviating the pain of diabetic neuropathy, this study was designed to compare the severity and nature of depressive symtoms of diabetic patients with neuropathy with those of diabetic patients without neuropathy and patients with somatoform disorder whose complaints were mainly somatic pain, respectively. The authors administered Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) to the three groups of patients. The mean total scores of BDI were relatively low in all groups and not significantly different among the three groups. The mean scores of four subscales of BDI were also not significantly different among the three groups. These results might suggest that the pain of diabetic neuropathy did not influence on the severity and the nature of depressive symptoms of preexisting diabetes.

  • This study was performed to investigate the physiochemical and sensory characteristics of Kimchi with added Houttuynia cordata Thunb(HC). According to measurements for physicochemical characteristics, the three groups of tested Kimchi(HC juice, HC powder, control) did not show any significant differences in pH and hardness. However, the acidity of the Kimchi with added HC juice was found to be significantly higher. Regarding lightness, L values were not different among the three groups, while a and b values showed significant decreases. In descriptive analysis, Kimchi redness was lowest in the HC juice group, and difference in redness was identified between the HC juice and powder groups. One survey indicated that the Kimchi with added HC juice had a unique odor, but no difference was found between the HC powder group and the control group. Also, a survey on preference characteristics indicated there were no differences between the three groups. For the saltiness and acidity of the Kimchi with added HC, there was a significant negative correlation(p<0.05), in which stronger saltiness lower acidity. On the other hand, acidity and HC odor showed a significantly positive correlation(p<0.05). Furthermore, the L value showed a significantly negative correlation(p<0.05) with HC odor.

  • Using a psychometric paradigm, risk perception of 30 hazards was investigated for three social groups-college students, experts of technologies, and employees of environmental organizations. The aim of this study was to examine psychological dimensions of risk perception, namely, to replicate the psychological dimensions - dread and knowledge -, which Slovic et al(1978; 1984; 1987) found and to forker explore discrepancies between societal groups. The results confirmed the same psychological dimensions Slovic et al have found. However, there are a number of significant differences in perceived risk such as perceived social benefits and other risk characteristics between three groups that suggest differences in ecological attitudes. The results were compared with those of Slovic et af and the nature of differences in risk perception among three groups were discussed.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to suggest the basic materials for proposing effective and efficient methods when stretching by measuring isokinetic muscular strength according to static, dynamic and PNF stretching. Methods: This study was conducted on 45 healthy persons (male and female) in their twenties who are attending universities. The subjects are randomly divided into three (3) groups, and static stretching is applied in group 1, dynamic stretching is applied in group 2 and PNF stretching is applied in group 3. After carrying out static, dynamic and PNF stretching, peak torque was measured using isokinetic muscular strength measurement. Results: According to the results, at $60^{\circ}$/sec and $180^{\circ}$/sec isokinetic peak torque of the knee joint according to types of stretching, the largest changes were shown in Group 2 extension and flexion, and the least changes were shown in Group 1. There were significant differences among the three groups (p<0.05), and the result of after-analysis by LSD showed that there were significant differences between Groups 1 and 2, and Groups 1 and 3 (p<0.05). Conclusion: The intention of this study was to determine the peak torque using Cybex after applying three stretching methods to hamstring muscles, and the case of dynamic and PNF stretching was found to be more significant in both the $60^{\circ}$/sec and $180^{\circ}$/sec angular speeds than that of static stretching. Using the results of such studies, if dynamic and PNF stretching are applied together with warming-up before performing sports, the risk of suffering wounds would reduce and the exactness of sports would increase.
