  • We have developed the three dimensional mesh generator for three dimensional process simulation using the FEM(Finite Element Method). Tetrahedron element construct the presented three dimensional mesh, which is suitable for the simulation of three dimensional behavior of the LOCOS. The simulation of thermal oxidation is one of the problem in scale downed semiconductor processes. As three dimensional simulators use the huge size of the memory, we use the efficient method that generates the new nodes inside the growing oxide and removes the nodes nearby the SiO2/Si interface in silicon. The resented three dimensional mesh generator was designed to be used in various process simulations, for instance thermal oxidation, silicidation, nitridation, ion implantation, diffusion, and so on.

  • In this paper, one simple technique to calibrate the system setting of the three-dimensional measuring system is presented. Due to this technique, the three-dimensional shape of the huge structures and the buildings can be readily obtained. This technique is applied to the three-dimensional landscape simulation. Two examples are shown in this paper.

  • We consider the problem of whether the three-dimensional checkerboard has the connectivity. For this purpose, we first consider the problem of determining the effective conductivity of a checkerboard-shaped composite material by the Brownian motion simulation method. Specifically, we use the efficient first-passage-time technique. Simulation results show that the effective conductivity of the three-dimensional checkerboard increases faster than the two-dimensional counterpart as the contrast between the phase conductivities increases. This implies that the three-dimensional checkerboard's connectivity is stronger than the two-dimensional checkerboard's and thus each phase material of the three-dimensional checkerboard is more likely to be connected than not to be connected.

  • This study is concerned about the development of three-dimensional bending machine for heat exchanger. Recently, three-dimensional bending is required for various heat exchanger. The purpose of this study is design of three-dimensional bending machine by analysis of bending process and structural analysis simulation. The analysis is carried out by FEM simulation using DEFORM and CATIA V5 software. The copper-tube is modeled by shell elements and the machine is modeled by placing proper shell and solid finite elements and fictitious mass properties to represent the real one. The final results of analysis are applied to the design of three-dimensional bending machine and the machine is successfully developed.

  • The orbit has a very special anatomical structure. The complex anatomical structure should be restored when we encounter the patient with orbital wall fracture. Unless these specific anatomy were reconstructed well, the patient should suffer from various complications such enophthalmos, diplopia or orbital deformity. In addition, because the patient has a his own specific orbital shape, individualized approach will be necessary. The aim of this trial is to try to restore the original orbit anatomy as possible based on the mirrored three dimensional CT images based on the computer simulation. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) data were processed for the patient and a rapid prototyping (RP) model was produced. At the same time, the uninjured side was mirrored and superimposed onto the traumatized side, to create a mirror-image of the RP model. In order to restore the missing skipped images between the cuts of CT data because of the thinness of the orbital walls, we manipulated the DICOM data for imaging the original orbital contour using the preoperatively manufactured mirror-image of the RP model. And we fabricated Titanium-Medpor to reconstruct three-dimensional orbital structure intraoperatively. This prefabricated Titanium-Medpor was then inserted onto the defected orbital wall and fixed. Three dimensional approach based on the computer simulation turned out to be very successful in this patient. Individualized approach for each patient could be an ideal way to manage the traumatic patients in near future.

  • Most material of engineering interest undergoes solidification process from liquid to solid state. Identifying the underlying mechanism during solidification process is essential to determine the microstructure of material which governs the physical properties of final product. In this paper, we expand our previous two-dimensional numerical technique to three-dimensional simulation for computing dendritic solidification process with fluid convection. We used Level Contour Reconstruction Method to track the moving liquid-solid interface and Sharp Interface Technique to correctly implement phase changing boundary condition. Three-dimensional results showed clear difference compared to two-dimensional simulation on tip growth rate and velocity.

  • Preoperative surgical simulation in orthognathic surgery has progressed in recent years; the movement of the mandible can be anticipated through three-dimensional (3D) simulation surgery before the actual procedure. In this case report, the mandible was moved to the intended postoperative occlusion through preoperative surgical 3D simulation. Right-side condylar movement change was very slight in the surgical simulation, suggesting the possibility of mandibular surgery that included only left-side ramal osteotomy. This case report describes a patient with a mild asymmetric facial profile in which the mandibular menton had been deviated to the right and the lips canted down to the left. Before surgery, three-dimensional surgical simulation was used to evaluate and confirm a position for the condyle as well as the symmetrical postoperative state of the face. Facial asymmetry was resolved with minimal surgical treatment through unilateral intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy on the left side of the mandible. It would be a valuable complement for the reduction of the surgical treatment if one could decide with good predictability when an isolated intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy can be done without a compensatory osteotomy on the contralateral side.

  • We developed three dimensional Monte carlo ion implantation simulator which simulate distributions of impurities under the ion implantation on the tilted multi-layered layer. Our simulation reveals three dimensional shadow effect and sidewall scattering effect due to the geometrical shapes. For the evaluation of the developed three dimensional Monte carlo ion implantation simulator, calculations with 100,000 ions have been performed for the island and hole structures with a thin oxide of 100$\AA$ and nitride of 2000$\AA$. The simulation results showed that the distribution of ion decreases near the conner of the hole structure covered with a nitride layer and increases near the conner for the island structure open to oxide. Moreover, three dimensional distributions of ions were obtained with varying incident energy, tilt and rotation angle, mask depth and three-dimensional structure geometry.

  • The three-dimensional particle packing process is simulated using Lahey FORTRAN 90 as a programming language running on a personal computer. Particle clusters constructed with rearrangement which occurs during packing have higher average coordination number and packing density than particle clusters rearranged after packing. Rearranging particles can not completely block other particles from entering pore volume in 3-dimensional packing unlike in 2-dimensional packing. It is found that there is a region of instability where lower packing density results from the destruction of the ordered packing.
