In this study, the theoretical dynamic characteristics of a thin-walled composite beam with a single-cell of chordwise asymmetric cross-section was studied. Mathematical modeling was done by considering the transverse shear effects, the warping restraint effects, the constant taper ratio in the longitudinal direction of the beam, and the geometrical cross-section ratio. The mass coefficients, stiffness coefficients, and Eigen frequencies of the selected section were investigated. In particular, the effects of the taper ratio and cross-section ratio of the model on the Eigen frequencies were analyzed and compared when the asymmetry of the section was considered and the warping function was not corrected.

This study conducts numerical analyses of a thin-walled composite cylinder under axial compression and internal pressure of 10 kPa. Numerical vibration correlation technique and nonlinear postbuckling analyses are conducted using the nonlinear finite element analysis program, ABAQUS. The single perturbation load approach and measured imperfection data are used to represent the geometric initial imperfection of thin-walled composite cylinder. The buckling knockdown factors are derived using present initial imperfection and analysis methods under axial compression without and with the internal pressure. Furthermore, the buckling knockdown factors are compared with the buckling test and computation time are calculated. In this study, derived buckling knockdown factors in present study have difference within 10% as compared with the buckling test. It is shown that nonlinear postbuckling analysis can derive relatively accurate buckling knockdown factor of present thin-walled cylinders, however, numerical vibration correlation technique derives reasonable buckling knockdown factors compared with buckling test. Therefore, this study shows that numerical vibration correlation technique can also be considered as an effective numerical method with 21~91% reduced computation time than nonlinear postbuckling analysis for the derivation of buckling knockdown factors of present composite cylinders.

In the analysis of metal forming problems, the explicit time integration finite element method, which does not have convergence problems, is frequently used. The present work is to assess the applicability of the explicit time integration finite element method to quasi-static metal forming problems. Compressing analyses of thin-walled tubes and solid cylinders are performed with different loading velocities. The computed buckled profiles of thin walled tubes are compared with the theoretical and experimental ones and it is found that at sufficiently low loading velocity, the explicit time integration finite element method accurately predict quasi-static buckled profiles. When loading volocity is increased, the computed buckled profiles of thin-walled tubes are very sensitive to loading velocity however the computed profiles of solid cylinders are less sensitive to loading velocity. In orther words, the geometrically self-constrained specimens like solid cylinders are less sensitive to loading velocity than the geometrically unconstrained specimens like thin-walled tubes. As a result, it is found that the geometrically self-constrained problems which include the greater part of metal forming problems can be efficiently analyzed with loading velocity control technique.
In this study, circular thin-walled reinforced high strength concrete-filled steel tube (RHSCFST) stub columns with various tube thicknesses (i.e., 1.8, 2.5 and 3.0mm) and reinforcement ratios (i.e., 0, 1.6%, 2.4% and 3.2%) were fabricated to explore the influence of these factors on the axial compressive behavior of RHSCFST. The obtained test results show that the failure mode of RHSCFST transforms from outward buckling and tearing failure to drum failure with the increasing tube thickness. With the tube thickness and reinforcement ratio increased, the ultimate load-carrying capacity, compressive stiffness and ductility of columns increased, while the lateral strain in the stirrup decreased. Comparisons were also made between test results and the existing codes such as AIJ (2008), BS5400 (2005), ACI (2019) and EC4 (2010). It has been found that the existing codes provide conservative predictions for the ultimate load-carrying capacity of RHSCFST. Therefore, an accurate model for the prediction of the ultimate load-carrying capacity of circular thin-walled RHSCFST considering the steel reinforcement is developed, based on the obtained experimental results. It has been found that the model proposed in this study provides more accurate predictions of the ultimate load-carrying capacity than that from existing design codes.

In this study, concerns the crashworthiness of the widely used vehicle structure, square thin-walled tubes, which are excellent on the point of the energy absorbing capacity. An experimental investigation was carried out to study the energy absorption characteristics of thin-walled square tubes subjected to dynamic crushing by axial loading to develop the optimum structural members. The impact velocity was tested in the rage $4.698{\sim}8.2m/s$. To efficiently review the collapse characteristics of these sections, the simulation have been carried out using explicit FEM package, LS-DYNA. The solutions compared with results the impact collapse experiment. Here, the controller are introduced to improve and control the absorbed energy of thin-walled square tubes in this paper. To predict and control the energy absorption, we designed it in consideration to the it's influence, height, thickness, wide ratio in this study. When the controller used, the experimental results of crushing of square tubes controlled by the controller's elements showed a good candidate for a controllable energy absorption capability in impact axial crushing.

In order to trace the lateral-torsional post-bucking behaviors of thin-walled space frames with non-symmetric cross sections, a geometrically non-linear finite element formulation is presented by applying incremental equilibrium equations based on the updated Lagrangian formulation and introducing Vlasov's assumption. The improved displacement field for non-symmetric thin-walled cross sections is introduced based on inclusion of second order terms of finite rotations, and the potential energy corresponding to the semitangential rotations and moments is consistently derived. For finite element analysis, tangent stiffness matrices of thin-walled space frame element are derived by using the Hermition polynomials as shape functions. A co-rotational formulation in order to evaluate the unbalanced loads is presented by separating the rigid body rotations and pure deformations from incremental displacements and evaluating the updated direction cosines and incremental member forces.

This paper is the first in a series of articles dealing with the study and analysis of imperfections in thin-walled, cold-formed steel sections with modified cross-sectional shapes. A study was conducted, using 3D scanning techniques, to determine the most vulnerable geometric imperfections in the profiles. Based on a review of the literature, it has been determined that few researchers are studying thin-walled sections with modified cross-sectional shapes. Each additional bend in the section potentially generates geometric imperfections. Geometric imperfections significantly affect the resistance to loss of stability, which is crucial when analyzing thin-walled structures. In addition, the most critical locations along the length where these imperfections occur were determined. Based on the study, it was found that geometric imperfections cause a reduction in critical load. It should be noted that the tests performed are preliminary studies, based on which a program of further research will be developed. In addition, the article presents the current state of knowledge in the authors' field of interest. The future objective is to ascertain if these imperfections could potentially contribute positively to structural integrity. This enhanced understanding may pave the way for novel methodologies in structural engineering, wherein imperfections are viewed not solely as flaws but also as elements that could enhance the end product.
The bifurcation problem of thin walled structures in contact with rigid surfaces is formulated by adopting the multiple scales asymptotic technique. The general theory developed in this paper is very useful for the bifurcation analysis of waviness instabilities in the sheet metal forming. The formulation is presented in a full Lagrangian formulation. Through this general formulation, the bifurcation functional is derived within an error of O($(E^4)$) (E: shell's thickness parameter). This functional can be used in numerical solutions to sheet metal forming instability problem.
This paper addresses the problem of the modeling and vibration control of tapered rotating blade modeled as thin-walled beams and incorporating damping capabilities. The blade model incorporates non-classical features such as anisotropy, transverse shear, secondary warping and includes the centrifugal and Coriolis force fields. For the rotating blade system, a thorough validation and assessment. of a number of non-classical features including the taper characteristics is accomplished. The damping capabilities are provided by a system of piezoactuators bonded or embedded into the structure and spread over the entire span of the beam. Based on the converse piezoelectric effect, the piezoactuators produce a localized strain field in response to a voltage and consequently, a change of the dynamic response characteristics is induced. A velocity feedback control law relating the piezoelectrically induced transversal bending moment at the beam tip with the appropriately selected kinematical response quantity is used and thebeneficial effects upon the closed-loop dynamic characteristics of the blade are highlighted.

Equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear and primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. The vibrational characteristics of a composite thin-walled beam exhibiting the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness system(CAS) and the circumferentially uniform stiffness system(CUS) are exploited in connection with the bending-transverse shear coupling and the bending-twist coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials.
