  • Regulation of gastrointestinal hormones have been reported in animal models for constipation undergoing laxative therapy when administered herbal products. We undertook to investigate whether the laxative activity of gallotannin-enriched extracts isolated from Galla Rhois (GEGR) affects the regulation of gastrointestinal hormones, by examining the concentration of four hormones and the activation of their receptors in the loperamide (Lop)-induced constipation model. Stool parameters, including number, weight and water content, were significantly recovered in the Lop+GEGR treated group, relative to the Lop+ vehicle treated group; however, food intake and water consumption were maintained at a constant level. Also, a similar recovery was detected for thickness of mucosa, muscle and flat luminal surface in the Lop+GEGR treated group. Furthermore, concentration of the four gastrointestinal hormones evaluated, namely, cholecystokinin (CCK), gastrin (GAS), somatostatin (SS) and motilin (MTL), were lower in the Lop+vehicle treated group than the No treated group, but were remarkably enhanced in the Lop+GEGR treated group. Moreover, the downstream signaling pathway of MTL and SS receptors were recovered after GEGR administration. Results of the present study therefore indicate that the laxative effects of GEGR treatment may be tightly related with the regulation of gastrointestinal hormones in the Lopinduced constipation model.

  • Background: Intraosseous anesthesia (IO) allows the anesthetic solution to be injected directly into the cancellous bone. The anesthetic solution immediately reaches the periapical region, and thus the axonal area of the nerve, where it can temporarily disable the sodium pump. The effect is felt almost without any time delay, and only a small amount of anesthetic solution is required. Methods: This study aims to investigate the efficacy of IO using the AnestoⓇ device after infiltration anesthesia (IA) and/or inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia (IANB) failed to work in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (hot tooth). The 33 patients included in the study were treated additionally with 1.7 ml articaine hydrochloride with 1:100,000 epinephrine hydrochloride (UltracainⓇ D-S, Sanofi-Aventis, Frankfurt, Germany) IO. Results: The electrical pulp test showed that 95.76% of the volunteers reacted positively to the combination of IANB or IA with the IO. In women, the additive IO was effective at 97.22%. In men, the IO led to pain elimination in 94.00% of cases. The duration of the IO was less than a quarter of an hour (13.03 min). The IO worked longer in women than in men (13.61 min vs. 12.33 min). Overall, more than every third tooth that needed trepanation was located in the posterior area of the mandible (36.4%). Treatment of hot teeth in this area was associated with an increased pulse rate and increased residual pain. There was a moderate correlation (Spearman-Rho [IRI] = 0.280) between the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score and bone density, and a significant correlation (IRI = 0.612) between subjective residual pain and bone width. The IO resulted in a moderate, transient increase in the pulse rate by approximately 20 bpm. This is similar to the temporary increase in heart rate after conventional anesthesia techniques in non-preloaded patients and can be considered clinically irrelevant. Conclusion: IO with the AnestoⓇ device as an extension and deepening of local pain elimination is recommended for the treatment of hot teeth.

  • In this study, a large-scale levee breach experiment from lateral overflow was conducted to verify the effect of the new reinforcement method applied to the levee's surface. The new method could prevent levee failure and minimize damage caused by overflow in rivers. The levee was designed at the height of 2.5 m, a length of 12 m, and a slope of 1:2. A new material mixed with biopolymer powder, water, weathered granite, and loess in an appropriate ratio was sprayed on the levee body's surface at a thickness of about 5 cm, and vegetation recruitment was also monitored. At the Andong River Experiment Center, a flow (4 ㎥/s) was introduced from the upstream of the A3 channel to induce the lateral overflow. The change of lateral overflow was measured using an acoustic doppler current profiler in the upstream and downstream. Additionally, cameras and drones were used to analyze the process of the levee breach. Also, a new method using 3D point cloud for calculating the surface loss rate of the levee over time was suggested to evaluate the performance of the levee reinforcement method. It was compared to existing method based on image analysis and the result was reasonable. The proposed 3D point cloud methodology could be a solution for evaluating the performance of levee reinforcement methods.

  • Recently, high-resolution cameras in smartphones enable measurement of minute objects such as cracks in concrete using image processing techniques. The technology to investigate the crack width using an application at an adjacent distance of the close shot range has already been implemented, but the use is limited, so it is necessary to verify the usability of the high-resolution smartphone camera to measure cracks at a longer distance. This study focuses on recognizing the size of subdivided crack widths at a thickness within 1.0 mm of crack width at a distance of 2 m. In recent Android-based smartphones, an experiment was conducted focusing on the relationship between the unit pixel size, which is a measurement component, and the shooting distance, depending on the camera resolution. As a result, it was possible to confirm the necessity of a smartphone lens for the classification and quantification of microcrack widths of 0.3 mm to 1mm. The universal telecentric lens for smartphones needed to be installed in an accurate position to minimize the effect of distortion. In addition, as a result of applying a 64 MP high-resolution smartphone camera and double magnification lens, the crack width could be calculated within 2 m in pixel units, and crack widths of 0.3, 0.5, and 1mm could be distinguished.

  • This paper shows the numerical prediction of the change in oil outflow rate according to the orifice shape of a damaged ship by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis method. It also provides discharge coefficients for various orifice shapes to be used in theoretical prediction approaches. The oil outflow from the model ship was analyzed using a multiphase flow method under the condition that the Froude and Reynolds number similitudes were satisfied. The present numerical results were verified by comparing them with the available experimental data. Along with the aspect ratio of the orifice and the wall thickness of the cargo tank, the effects of the orifice shapes defined by mathematical figures on the oil outflow were investigated. To consider more realistic situations, the investigation of the ef ect of the crushed iron plate around the damaged part was also included. The numerical results confirmed the change in oil outflow time for various shapes of the damaged part of the oil tank, and discharge coefficients that quantify the viscous effects of those orifice shapes were extracted. To verify the predicted discharge coefficients, they were applied to an oil spill estimation equation. As a result, a good agreement between the CFD and theoretical results was obtained.

  • Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease accompanied by severe itching, mainly before five. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of 405 nm+850 nm LED light therapy on AD-like symptoms in NC/Nga mice. The mice were randomly placed in the normal (Vehicle), atopic dermatitis-induced (CON), and 405 nm + 850 nm LED light therapy (LED) groups. The LED experimental group conducted 405 nm+850 nm wavelength LED ray therapy for 10 minutes a day for seven days. LED light therapy research confirmed the improvement and improvement of Dermatics score and observed the reduction of epidermal tissue thickness caused by dermatitis. Based on the significant decrease of serum IL-1𝛽 and transdermal moisture loss and serum IgE concentration due to LED light therapy, LED light therapy can help restore normal skin conditions in mice that cause atopic dermatitis. This study showed the anti-atopic effect of infrared light and blue light. Light in mice with atopic dermatitis led to the simultaneous use of circular LEDs with two wavelengths.

  • Recently, the semiconductor package structures are becoming thinner and more complex. As the thickness decrease, interfacial delamination due to material mismatch can be further maximized, so the reliability of interface is a critical issue in industry field. Especially, the polymers, which are widely used in semiconductor packaging, are significantly affected by the temperature and moisture. Therefore, in this study, the delamination prediction at the interface of package structure was performed through finite element analysis considering the moisture absorption and desorption under the various temperature conditions. The material properties such as diffusivity and saturated moisture content were obtained from moisture absorption test. The hygro-swelling coefficients of each material were analyzed through TMA and TGA after the moisture absorption. The micro-shear test was conducted to evaluate the adhesion strength of each interface at various temperatures considering the moisture effect. The finite element analysis of interfacial delamination was performed that considers both deformation due to temperature and moisture absorption. Consequently, the interfacial delamination was successfully predicted in consideration of the in-situ moisture desorption and temperature behavior during the reflow process.

  • Background: The effect of ginsenoside Rh2 (G-Rh2) on mast cell-mediated anaphylaxis remains unclear. Herein, we investigated the effects of G-Rh2 on OVA-induced asthmatic mice and on mast cell-mediated anaphylaxis. Methods: Asthma model was established for evaluating airway changes and ear allergy. RPMCs and RBL-2H3 were used for in vitro experiments. Calcium uptake, histamine release and degranulation were detected. ELISA and Western blot measured cytokine and protein levels, respectively. Results: G-Rh2 inhibited OVA-induced airway remodeling, the production of TNF-α, IL-4, IL-8, IL-1β and the degranulation of mast cells of asthmatic mice. G-Rh2 inhibited the activation of Syk and Lyn in lung tissue of OVA-induced asthmatic mice. G-Rh2 inhibited serum IgE production in OVA induced asthmatic mice. Furthermore, G-Rh2 reduced the ear allergy in IgE-sensitized mice. G-Rh2 decreased the ear thickness. In vitro experiments G-Rh2 significantly reduced calcium uptake and inhibited histamine release and degranulation in RPMCs. In addition, G-Rh2 reduced the production of IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-8, and IL-4 in IgE-sensitized RBL-2H3 cells. Interestingly, G-Rh2 was involved in the FcεRI pathway activation of mast cells and the transduction of the Lyn/Syk signaling pathway. G-Rh2 inhibited PI3K activity in a dose-dependent manner. By blocking the antigen-induced phosphorylation of Lyn, Syk, LAT, PLCγ2, PI3K ERK1/2 and Raf-1 expression, G-Rh2 inhibited the NF-κB, AKT-Nrf2, and p38MAPK-Nrf2 pathways. However, G-Rh2 up-regulated Keap-1 expression. Meanwhile, G-Rh2 reduced the levels of p-AKT, p38MAPK and Nrf2 in RBL-2H3 sensitized IgE cells and inhibited NF-κB signaling pathway activation by activating the AKT-Nrf2 and p38MAPK-Nrf2 pathways. Conclusion: G-Rh2 inhibits mast cell-induced allergic inflammation, which might be mediated by the AKT-Nrf2/NF-kB and p38MAPK-Nrf2/NF-κB signaling pathways.

  • In order to develop structural 'bamboo zephyr board', properties of boards produced by various methods making zephyr were estimated. All of boards were tested with KS(Korean Standards) F 3014 Particle board, and results were summarized as follow. The zephyr boards produced by final 1.5 mm roller space had the best properties(MOR, MOE and IB strength) among boards produced by different final roller space. Also, they had the best properties(MOR and MOE) in bending test after 1 hour soaking treatment after 2 hour-boiling in water, which were similar to properties of boards in dry-condition. Thickness swelling(TS) of all boards was less than 12% required to the Korean Standards A 3014. Zephyr boards produced by final 1.5 mm roller space also had the lowest values among all of boards. Boards produced by non-treatment (in green condition) had the better strength than those of boards produced by different pre-treatment methods(boiling in water and in 0.3% NaOH) in bending test.

  • In this paper, a method for evaluating optical-system performance and an athermal structure through thermal analysis of the Korsch telescope was studied. In the case of an optical system having a complex asymmetrical structure, there is a limit to implementing the satellite structure by applying the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) in the optical-design software, so it is difficult to evaluate the performance of the optical system against temperature changes. To solve this problem, using mechanical design software all length changes were implemented in all structures that affect the optical system according to temperature, and the value of the change in distance between optical components due to temperature change was organized. Also, the values of changes in shape and thickness of the optical components against temperature changes are organized in the optical-design software. All changes derived from both software packages were applied in the optical software to evaluate the performance of the optical system. As a result, it was found that the MTF for a spatial resolution of 71.4 cycles/mm was maintained at more than 25% in the range from 9 ℃ to 33 ℃. In addition, the performance of the optical system applying the improved structure was evaluated, by finding the structure that had the most influence on the optical system's performance change, and deriving an athermal structure to reduce the effect. As a result, it was found that the MTF for a resolution of 71.4 cycles/mm was maintained at over 67% in the range from 9 ℃ to 33 ℃.
