Induction bending is a method that allows the bending of any material that conducts electricity. This technology applies a bending force to a material that has been locally heated by an eddy current induced by a fluctuating electromagnetic field. Induction bending uses an inductor to locally heat steel through induction. This results in a narrow heat band in the shape to be bent. In general, the reduction of thickness attenuation of a large-diameter steel pipe is not allowed to exceed 12.5%. In this paper, in order to meet the standard of thickness attenuation reduction, a non-uniform heating temperature jump-bending process was investigated. As a result, the developed bending technique meets the requirements of thickness attenuation reduction for large-diameter steel pipes.
The LIGA X-ray exposure step was modelled into three inequalities, by assuming that the X-ray energy attenuated within a resist is deposited only in the localized range of the resist. From these inequalities, equations for the minimum and maximum exposure times required for a good quality microstructure were obtained. Also, an equation for the thickness of an X-ray mask absorber was obtained from the exposure requirement of threshold dose deposition. The calculation method of the synchrotron radiation power from a synchrotron radiation source was introduced and applied to an X-ray exposure step. A power from a synchrotron radiation source was introduced and applied to an X-ray exposure step/ A power function of photon energy, approximating the attenuation length of the representative LIGA resist, PMMA, and the mean photon energy of the XZ-rays incident upon an X-ray mask absorber were applied to the above mentioned equations. Consequently, the tendencies of the minimum and maximum exposure and with respect to mean photon energy and thick ness of PMMA was obtained. Additionally, the tendencies of the necessary thickness of PMMA and photon energy of the X-ray mask absorber with respect to thickness of PMMA and photon energy of the X-rays incident upon an X-ray mask absorber were examined. The minimum exposure time increases monotonically with increasing mean photon energy for the same total power density and is not a function of the thickness of resist. The minimum exposure time increases with increasing mean photon energy for the same total power density in the case of the general LIGA process, where the thickness of PMMA is thinner than the attenuation length of PMMA. Additionally, the minimum exposure time increases monotonically with increasing thickness of PMMA. The maximally exposable thickness of resist is proportional to the attenuation length of the resist at the mean photon energy with its proportional constant of ln $(Dd_m/D_{dv})$. The necessary thickness of a gold X-ray mask absorber due to absorption edges of gold, increases smoothly with increasing PMMA thickness ratio, and is independent of the total power density itself. The simplicity of the derived equations has made clearly understandable the X-ray exposure phenomenon and the correlation among the exposure times, the attenuation coefficient and the thickness of an X-ray mask absorber, the attenuation coefficient and the thickness of the resist, and the synchrotron radiation power density.
In this paper, the compensation of ultrasonic scattering on interface crack depending on thickness variations of A1/Epoxy bonded dissimilar components was applied to improve measuring accuracy by using ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The optimum conditions of theoretical value and experimental measuring accuracy by the ultrasonic method in A1/Epoxy bonded dissimilar components have been investigated. From the experimental results, the measurement method of interfacial crack lengths by using ultrasonic attenuation coefficient was proposed and discussed. After the ultrasonic scattering compensation depending on thickness variations of bonded dissimilar components was carried out, the measuring accuracy of interfacial crack length was improved by 5%.
The using of compensator is required to adjust the irregular dose distribution due to irregular thickness of the body in Total Body Irradiation. Aluminuim, copper or lead is generally used as compensator. In our study, we would like to introduce a result of the attenuation and compensation effect of radiation use compensator made by duralumin and its clinical use. The thickness of compensator was calculated by the attenustion of radiation, which was measured by polystyrene phantom and ionization chamber(farmer). The compensation effect of radiation was measured by diode detector. All of conditions were set as in real treatment, and the distanc from source to detector was 446 cm. We also made fixation of device to easily attach the compensator to LINAC. Beam spoiler was menufactured and placed on the patient to irradiate sufficient dose to the skin. diode detector were placed on head, neck, chest, umbilicus. pelvis and knee with each their entranced exit points, and datas of dose distribution were evaluated and compared in each points for eleven patients(Feb. 96-Feb. 97). The attenuation rate of irradiation by duralumin compensator was measured as $1.4\%$ in 2mm thickness. The mean attenuation rate was $1.3\%$ per 2mm as increasing the thickness gradually to 50 mm. By using duralunim compensator, dose distribution in each points of body was measured with ${\pm}2.8\%$ by diode detectior. We could easily calculate the thickness of compensator by measuring the attenuation rate of radiation, remarkably reduce the irragularity of dose distribution duo to the thickness of body and magnify the effect of radiation therapy.

Matrix composites of n-WO3/n-Bi2O3/PVA with different loadings of n-WO3/n-Bi2O3 mixtures (0-15 wt%) and starch (0 and 3 wt%) were fabricated by using melt-mixing method. The X-ray attenuation capability were evaluated based on mass attenuation coefficient (μ/⍴) using a general diagnostic X-ray machine at 40-100 kVp. The effect of starch addition on the dispersion of the fillers in the PVA matrix were observed by using FESEM through morphological analysis. The fabricated samples have shrunken and caused their thickness to be decreased (0.35 mm-0.55 mm) after the drying process even though fixed thickness (2.0 mm) was set initially. The density and HVL values of the samples with 3 wt% starch was seen lower than samples without starch (0 wt%), however the former have provided improvement in filler dispersion and better X-ray attenuation capability compared to the latter. As conclusion, the matrix composite of n-WO3/n-Bi2O3/PVA with 15 wt% of n-Bi2O3, 8 wt% of n-WO3 and 3 wt% starch can be selected as the best promising candidate for X-ray shielding materials.
The number of facilities using radiation generators increases and related regulations are strengthened, the establishment of a shielding management and evaluation technology has become important. The characteristics of the radiation generator used in previous report differ from those of currently available high-frequency radiation generators. This study aimed to manufacture lead, iron, and concrete shielding materials for the re-verification of half-value layers, tenth-value layers, and attenuation curve. For a comparison of attenuation ratio, iron, lead, and concrete shields were manufactured in this study. The initial dose was measured without shielding materials, and doses measured under different types and thicknesses of shielding material were compared with the initial dose to calculate the transmission rate on 50-300 kVp X-ray. All the three shielding materials showed a tendency to require greater shielding thickness for higher energy. The attenuation graph showed an exponential shape as the thickness decreased and a straight line as the thickness increased. The difference between the measurement results and the previous study, except in extrapolated parts, may be due to the differences in the radiation generation characteristics between the generators used in the two studies. The attenuated graph measured in this study better reflects the characteristics of current radiation generators, which would be more effective for shield designing.
The size and concentration of wear debris in lubricating oil often reveal the operating condition of the rotating machinery. To evaluate the possible application of light attenuation measurement for the estimation of wear debris concentration in the lubricating oil, the light transmittance through the lubricating oil cell contaminated with various concentrations of diatomite particles was measured, the attenuation coefficient was estimated from the transmittance measurement and the coefficients were compared with those obtained from the scattering theory. The comparision showed good agreements between them. It is also noted that the experimentally determined attenuation coefficient showed almost linear relation with particle weight concentrations for the concentrations within the range of 2000 ppm. For the case of 0 ppm weight concentration of diatomite particles in the lubricating oil cell, the thickness of the cell required to give $100 \mu W$ light attenuation is 7.75 mm. This result indicates that the light attenuation method will be one of the possible candidates of machine failure diagnostic sensors for the estimation of wear debris concentration in the lubricating oil.

Ferrite electromagnetic wave absorber whose attenuation ability are mainly relied on their magnetic loss, has been used in relatively narrow wave frequency ranges. In this study, we tried to produce a wide-range electromagnetic wave absorber by laminating sintered ferrite (Mn0.07Ni0.28Zn0.65Fe2O4) and dielectrics (Cordierite). We also investigated effects of dielectric constant and thickness on the attenuation behavior of the absorber. Applicable band width, in which the attenuation is greater than 20 dB can be widened from 100∼700 MHz of ferrite alone to 100∼900MHz by employing the laminated structure. Thickness of dielectrics to achieve wide-range application decreased as the dielectric constant increased.
