  • The purpose of this paper is to provide the fundamental data which can be used for the design of pole transformers. For the purpose, electrical characteristics of aged mineral oil and silicone oil were analyzed by comparing with the results of virgin ones. For the experiment, an oil bath which can keep constant temperature was constructed to thermally deteriorate the specimens. And transformer materials were put together in the bath according to the their ratio in weight in the pole transformer. And the parameters such as relative permittivety, tan$\delta$ and specific resistance were measured. As a results, the permittivity of silicone oil was higher than that of mineral oil, and its decreasing rate with temperature was also higher. In addition, it was found that tan$\delta$ and specific resistance of virgin and aged oil began to differ at similar temperature.

  • The five classes of the thermally aged CF8M specimen are prepared using an artificially accelerated aging method. Namely, after the specimens are held for 100, 300, 900, 1800, and 3600hrs at 430$^{\circ}C$ respectively, the specimens are water-cooled to room temperature. The impact energy variations are measures for both the aged and virgin specimens through the Charpy impact tests in addition to the microstructure observation, tensile, hardness and fatigue crack growth tests. From the present investigation the following results are obtained : 1) The difference among the thermally degraded specimens can be distinguished through their microstructures, 2) Hardness and tensile strength are increased to 300hrs, degradation specimen, while elongation and reduction area are decreased to 3600hrs degradation specimen, and impact energy is decreased to 1800hrs degradation specimen, 3) The FCG rates for thermally degraded specimens are larger than that of the virgin specimen.

  • This research investigates the feasibility of ultrasonic microscope for nondestructive assessment of thermal degradation in artificially aged commercial Co-base superalloy, FSX414. This alloy has been used for high temperature structure applications such as stationary gas turbine blade and nozzle chamber in fossil plant. Microstructural change was found that the fine carbides became coarser and spheroidized in matrix as aging time increased. The leaky surface acoustic wave velocity gradually decreases by a maximum of 4.7% with increasing aging time up to 4,000hours. However, the longitudinal wave velocity has a little change. Also, it has a good correlation between leaky surface acoustic wave velocity and Vickers hardness. Consequently, LSAW can be used to examine the degree of degradation in thermally aged Co-base superalloy.

  • Thermal degradation of Acrylonitrile butadiene rubber(NBR), which is used for O-ring material as elastomeric sealed diaphragm value in the nuclear power plants, is examined. The thermal degradation is accelerated at 130$^{\circ}C$ by Arrhenius exploit method using the activation energy calculated by thermogravimetric analysis. The weight loss temperature and glass transition temperature are verified for thermally aged NBR. The relationship between dynamic mechanical properties and elongation at break are also investigated. The threshold alue of thermally aged NBR is a ten year in the change of elongation at break.

  • This paper describes moisture content, dielectric strength and dielectric properties of thermally accelerating aged insulating paper as varnish treatment. Kraft, nomex paper were impregnated with diluted varnish, varnish and solvent were diluted in the ratio of 40wt%, in vacuum condition, and then completely dried. To analysis of papers were influenced by varnish treatment, we applied thermal stress, and then measured moisture content, dielectric strength and relative permittivity, $tan{\delta}$ as varnish impregnated papers.

  • Cast austenitic stainless steels (CASSs) are widely used as structural materials in the nuclear industry. The main drawback of CASSs is the reduction in fracture toughness due to long-term exposure to operating environment. Even though ultrasonic non-destructive testing has been conducted in major nuclear components and pipes, the detection of cracks is difficult due to the scattering and attenuation of ultrasonic waves by the coarse grains and the inhomogeneity of CASS materials. In this study, the ultrasonic signals measured in thermally aged CASS were discriminated for the first time with the simple ultrasonic technique (UT) and machine learning (ML) models. Several different ML models, specifically the K-nearest neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) models, were used to classify the ultrasonic signals as thermal aging condition of CASS specimens. We identified that the ML models can predict the category of ultrasonic signals effectively according to the aging condition.

  • The accelerated thermal aging of CSPE(Chloro Sulfonate Polyethylene) was carried out for 40.41, 121.22, 202.04 days, 16.82, 50.45, 84.09 days and 7.32, 21.96, 36.59 days at 100, 110, and $120^{\circ}C$, respectively, which are equivalent to 20, 60, 100 years of aging at $50^{\circ}C$. The permittivities and the apparent densities of the accelerated thermally aged CSPE samples are increased with accelerated thermal aging year but EAB(Elongation at Break) is decreased with that. The dielectric strength and the electric breakdown of the non-accelerated and accelerated thermally aged CSPE samples do not depend on accelerated thermal aging year and applied voltage rising time. density and EAB measures.
