  • According to reinforce environmental regulations, coal power plants have used selective catalytic reduction using ammonia as a reducing agent to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide generation. The purpose of the present study was to derive a mixing device for effectively mixing dilute air and ammonia in the ammonia mixing pipe by performing computational fluid dynamic analysis. The mixing effect was compared by analysing the %RMS of ammonia concentration at the down stream cross section in the mixing pipe and the 16 outlets based on the case 1-1 shape, which is an existing mixing pipe without a mixing device. The mixing device was performed by changing the positions of a square plate on the downstream side of the ammonia supply pipe and an arc-shaped plate on the wall of the mixing pipe. In the case of the existing geometry(Case 1-1), the %RMS of ammonia concentration at the 16 outlets was 29.50%. The shape of the mixing device for Case 3-2 had a square plate on the downstream side of the ammonia supply pipe and an arc plate was installed adjacent to it. The %RMS of ammonia concentration for Case 3-2 was 2.08% at 16 outlets and it could be seen that the shape of Case 3-2 was the most effective mixing shape for ammonia mixing.

  • In this study, we calculated arc discharges and flow characteristics driven by arcs in a thermal puffer chamber, which is one of most outstanding high-voltage interrupters, for understanding the complex physics and the probability of thermal breakdown. The four main parts of arc model for this virtual-reality are radiation, PTFE ablation, Cu evaporation, and turbulence. Among these important parts the turbulence model can be critical to the reliability of computation results during the whole arcing history because the plasma flow is affected by high heat energy and mass momentum. Two turbulence models, the Prandtl's mixing length model and the standard $k-\varepsilon$ model, are applied for these calculations and are compared with pressure-rise inside chamber and arc voltage between the contacts as well as flow characteristics near current zero.

  • Aluminum Hydroxide was employed as a thermal retardent and flame retardent for Chloropolyethylene (CPE) rubbery materials which is the construction material of automotive oil cooler hose. and then cure characteristics, physical properties, thermal resistance and flame retardation of compounded rubber were investigated, and optimum mixing conditions of rubber and flame retarding agent were deduced from the experimental results. CPE rubber material which has excellent properties of chemical corrosion resistance and cold resistance and inexpensive in price was used to prepare rubber specimen. The by-product of ething, produced from the process of surface treatment of aluminum was processed to aluminum hydroxide via crushing and purification, which is characterized by XRD, PSA, SEM and ICP-AES techniques in terms of phase, size, distribution, morphology and components of particles and then mixed to CPE rubber materials in the range of 0~80 phr. Hardness, tensile strength, elongation and thermal properties of compounded rubber specimens were tested. The optimum mixing ratio of rubber to additives to give maximum effect on thermal resistance and flame retardation, within the range of tolerable specification for rubber materials, was determined to be 40 phr. The flame retardation of CPE rubber materials was found to be increased by 5 times at this mixing ratio.

  • The aim of this study is to research applicable possibility of DSI (Dry Sorbent Injection) technique in $SO_2$ removal process using lab-scale facility based on 500MW in capacity coal-fired thermal power plant operated by South Korea N. Power Co., Ltd. To increase the $SO_2$ removal efficiency, it is considered the mixing enhancement as different shapes called lobed-plate and stepplate tested ultimately for optimum shape. Also it tested to analysis $SO_2$ removal efficiency by numbers of injection holes. At experimental it showed the $SO_2$ removal efficiency is higher using mixing enhancement than not installed mixing enhancement and case on the step-plate was shown the most $SO_2$ removal efficiency. Also, $SO_2$ removal efficiency was higher recording which will increase the injection holes case on not installed mixing enhancement. But, the $SO_2$ removal efficiency was higher 4 injection holes case on installed mixing enhancement.

  • The service life of concrete structure is to a great extent influenced by crack developed at early ages of concrete material. Especially, hydration heat is a main cause of thermal cracking at mass concrete structures. The thermal cracking of massive structure is analyzed of the thermal cracking index which was presented Concrete Standard Specifications. The thesis analyzed the thermal cracking index which considered various variable (cement type, height of casting, curing condition, concrete mixing temperature, the unit cement content) at internal restricted mass concrete. The analysis result is denoted increase and decrease rate of thermal cracking index whenever the variables change. The results is helped to understand thermal cracking every time structures is designed and constructed. And I think that it is useful economic and stable design of mass concrete structures.

  • Effects of thermal annealing on the dielectric/piezoelectric properties of $Pb(Zn, Mg)_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}O_3-PbTiO_3$ ceramics (PZMNPT) with Zn/Mg=6/4) were examined across the rhombohedral/tetragonal morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). Both the relative dielectric permittivity ($\varepsilon$r)and the piezoelectric constant($d_33$)/electromechanical coupling constant ($k_p$)were increased by thermal annealing ($800^{\circ}$~$900^{\circ}C$) after sintering at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. Based on the dielectric analysis using the series mixing model and the concept of a random distribution of the local Curie points, the observed improvements in the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of PZMN-PT were interpreted in terms of the elimination of PbO-rich amorphous intergranular layers(~1nm) induced by thermal annealing. A concrete evidence of the presence of amorphous grain-boundary layers in the unannealed (as-sintered) specimen was obtained by examining the structure of intergranular region using a TEM.

  • The suitable turbulence model is found to be required in the course of establishing a proper analysis methodology for thermal stripping phenomena which are shown in strong temperature variation area such as reactors and propulsion devices. Three different turbulence models of $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ model, modified $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ model, and full Reynolds stress(FRS) model, are applied to analyze unsteady turbulent flows with temperature variation. Three test cases are selected for verification. These are vertical jet flows with water and sodium, and parallel jet flow with sodium. Analysis yields the conclusion that 3-D computation with FRS betters others. However, modified modeling is required to improve its heat transfer characteristic analysis. Further analysis is performed to find momentum variation effects on temperature distribution. It is found that the momentum increase results increase of fluid mixing and magnitude of temperature variation.

  • In this study, the melt-mixing condition was optimized first to maximize the physical properties of a wood plastic composite (WPC) with recycled polypropylene (PP) and the effects of recycled PP content on the physical properties of the WPC were investigated. Mechanical properties of the WPC were measured by UTM and an izod impact tester and thermal properties were investigated by DSC, TGA and DMA. Fracture surfaces of the WPC were investigated by SEM. The optimized mixing condition of WPC with 50 wt% recycled PP of total PP was melt-mixing at $170^{\circ}C$ for 15 min at 60 rpm. With increasing the content of the recycled PP, the water absorption characteristics of the WPC increased and the thermal and mechanical properties decreased. However, the following was concluded from the analysis of all the physical properties; it was possible adding the recycled PP up to 50 wt% of total PP without a significant decrease in the performance of the WPC.

  • A numerical analysis of a lean premixed combustor in a micro gas turbine was carried out to investigate the correlation between the turbulent mixing and emission characteristics on the combustor geometries. The interaction between the burners, by flow direction and momentum, significantly influenced on the turbulent mixing and combustion characteristics. The vortex which was generated by thermal expansion was observed during the combustion process, this was distinguished from the combustor geometries. The results showed that these characteristics can affect the NOx emission.

  • Subchannel code is one of the effective simulation tools for thermal-hydraulic analysis in nuclear reactor core. In order to reduce the computational cost and improve the calculation efficiency, empirical correlation of turbulent mixing coefficient is employed to calculate the lateral mixing velocity between adjacent subchannels. However, correlations utilized currently are often fitted from data achieved in central channel of fuel assembly, which would simply neglect the wall effects. In this paper, the CFD approach based on spectral element method is employed to predict turbulent mixing phenomena through gaps in 3 × 3 bare tight lattice rod bundle and investigate the flow pulsation through gaps in different positions. Re = 5000,10000,20500 and P/D = 1.03 and 1.06 have been covered in the simulation cases. With a well verified mesh, lateral velocities at gap center between corner channel and wall channel (W-Co), wall channel and wall channel (W-W), wall channel and center channel (W-C) as well as center channel and center channel (C-C) are collected and compared with each other. The obvious turbulent mixing distributions are presented in the different channels of rod bundle. The peak frequency values at W-Co channel could have about 40%-50% reduction comparing with the C-C channel value and the turbulent mixing coefficient β could decrease around 25%. corrections for β should be performed in subchannel code at wall channel and corner channel for a reasonable prediction result. A preliminary analysis on fluctuation at channel gap has also performed. Eddy cascade should be considered carefully in detailed analysis for fluctuating in rod bundle.
