Background: Glove reuse poses risks, as chemicals can persist even after cleaning. Decontamination methods like thermal aeration, recommended by US OSHA, vary in effectiveness. Some studies show promising results, while others emphasize the importance of considering both permeation and tensile strength changes. This research advocates for informed glove reuse, emphasizing optimal thermal aeration temperatures and providing evidence to guide users in maintaining protection efficiency. Methods: The investigation evaluated Neoprene and Nitrile gloves (22 mils). Permeation tests with toluene and acetone adhered to American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) F739 standards. Decontamination optimization involved aeration at various temperatures. The experiment proceeded with a maximum of 22 re-exposure cycles. Tensile strength and elongation were assessed following ASTM D 412 protocols. Breakthrough time differences were statistically analyzed using t-test and ANOVA. Results: At room temperature, glove residuals decreased, and standardized breakthrough time (SBT)2 was significantly lower than SBT1, indicating reduced protection. Higher temperature decontamination accelerated residual removal, with ∆SBT (SBT2/SBT1) exceeding 100%, signifying restored protection. Tensile tests showed stable neoprene properties postdecontamination. Results underscore thermal aeration's efficacy for gloves reuse, emphasizing temperature's pivotal role. Findings recommend meticulous management strategies, especially post-breakthrough, to uphold glove-protective performance. Conclusions: Thermal aeration at 100℃ for 1 hour proves effective, restoring protection without compromising glove strength. The study, covering twenty cycles, suggests safe glove reuse with proper decontamination, reducing costs significantly. However, limitations in chemical-glove combinations and exclusive focus on specific gloves caution against broad generalization. The absence of regulatory directives on glove reuse highlight the importance of informed selection and rigorous decontamination validation for workplace safety practices.
For investigation into gas permeation characteristics, the porous alumina membrane with asymmetrical structure, having upper layer with 10 nanometer under of pore diameter and lower layer with 36 nanometer of pore diameter, was prepared by anodic oxidation using DC power supply of constant current mode in an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid. The aluminium plate was pre-treated with thermal oxidation, chemical polishing and electrochemical polishing before anodic oxidation. Because the pore size depended upon the electrolyte, electrolyte concentration, temperature, current density, and so on, the the membranes were prepared by controling the current density, as a very low current density for upper layer of membrane and a high current density for lower layer of membrane. By control of current quantity, the thicknesses of upper layer of membranes were about $6{\;}{\mu}m$ and the total thicknesses of membranes were about $80-90{\;}{\mu}m$. We found that the mechanism of gas permeation depended on model of the Knudsen flow for the membrane prepared at each condition.
In this study, we prepared nanofiltration membrane by applying the interfacial polymerization method as a way of manufacturing composite membranes. We have examined the effects of various preparation factors such as monomer concentration and composition, thermal curing condition, post treatment condition. In addition to preparation conditions, we also monitored the effects of operation conditions such as feed solution concentration and operation pressure on the permeation properties of the resulting nanofiltration membrane. We intended to increase the permeation rate of nanofiltration membrane by the enlargement of effective surface area using additives during interfacial polymerization step. With increasing the monomer concentration, membrane permeation rate are decreased with maintaining almost constant rejection. With respect to curing condition, with increasing the curing temperature both permeation rate and rejection are decreased. With increasing the ratio of MPD in amino monomer composition, permeation rate decreased drastically with high rejection. With increasing the feed solution concentration, both permeation rate and rejection decreased. Both permeation rates and rejection increased with increasing the operating pressure. Nanofiltration membrane have higher surface roughness with increasing additive concentration in the case of using MPD contained amine composition than using piperazine alone. Permeation rates are much lower than the nanofiltration membrane prepared by piperazine.
2,7-Dihydroxynaphthalene bis(trimellitate anhydride) (2,7-TA) was synthesized from trimellitic anhydride chloride and 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene. Copolyimides (Co-PI) containing ester group were synthesized from 2,7-TA, pxylylenediamine, and 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine (TFB). The Co-PI films were obtained from poly(amic acid) by solution casting through thermal imidization on a glass plate. The thermal property, gas permeation, and optical transparency of the Co-PI films with various TFB monomer contents were investigated. These Co-PIs could be solution-cast into a flexible and tough film. The cast Co-PI films exhibited high optical transparency with a cut-off wavelength of 370~395 nm in UV-vis. absorption and a low yellow index value of 3.55~7.63. The thermal property of Co-PI films increased linearly with increasing TFB content. However, the oxygen permeation and optical transparency of the Co-PI films was found to worsen with increasing TFB content.

We show that thermal rearrangement of glassy polymers below the thermal degradation temperature can create unexpected and large microvoids in the membranes, leading to unexpected high gas permeability with high gas selectivity. These current polymer membranes display unexpected gas permeation-separation performance. There are above the upper-bound for conventional polymer membranes for several gas pairs. In the present study, molecular simulation, BET sorption, positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS), and gas separation experiments were performed to characterize the unusual structure-property relationship of these rigid glassy polymer membranes.

Introduction : Membranes made from inorganic materials are generally superior to organo-polymeric materials in thermal and mechanical stability, and chemical resistance. Among inorganic materials zeolite is a promising candidate for a high performance membrane because of the unique characteristics of zeolite crystals such as molecular sieving, ion exchange, selective adsorption and catalysis. Although there are many recent reportsl on the preparation of zeolitc membranes and the gas permeation through the membranes, only a limited number of publications deal with pervaporation studies. Recently, we have reported a high pervaporation performance of NaA zeolite membrane for the separation of water/organic liquid mixtures. and of NaY zeolite menlbrane for the separation of methanol/MTBE. Here, preparation of zeolite (LTA, ZSM-5 and FAU) membranes and their permeation properties are discussed.

One dimensional numerical modeling was carried out for the melting behavior of dry snow and the unsaturated flow when heat was supplied from the bottom surface. Discrepancy between the previous experimental data and the present numerical results is substantially reduced by considering the density change of water permeation layer due to the infiltration of meltwater. In the parametric study for effective thermal conductivity, it was found that the effect of this parameter to the behavior of snow melting is minor. Sensitivity analysis showed that the melting time is most sensitive to changes in supplied heat flux, snow temperature, and bulk density, whereas snow bulk density and residual saturation have a significant effect on the height of water permeation layer in snow.
We had investigated thermal and ignition behaviors of textiles. Decomposition of textiles with temperature was investigated using a DSC and the weight loss according to temperature using a TGA in order to find the thermal hazard of textiles, and the ignition behaviors of textiles according to species and permeation amount of oil. In addition, ignition behaviors of those permeated into oils indicating different iodine value and of those with arid without air in reaction vessel of measuring equipment were studied with constant temperature method among ignition temperature measuring methods. As results, the range of decomposition temperature of synthetic fiber was slightly broad compared with that of natural fiber, pure cotton. Besides, the initiation temperature of heat generation of both samples riced in the case of no air injection in the reaction vessel. On the other hand, in the case of air injection that was lowered according to the increase in permeative amount of oils and fats and decreased quickly as sample was permeated into drying oil.
The size and shape of free volume (FV) holes available in membrane materials control the rate of gas diffusion and its permeability. Based on this principle, a segmented, thermo-sensitive polyurethane (TSPU) membrane with functional gate, i.e., the ability to sense and respond to external thermo-stimuli, was synthesized. This smart membrane exhibited close-open characteristics to the size of the FV hole and water vapor permeation and thus can be used as smart food packaging materials. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), positron annihilation lifetimes (PAL) and water vapor permeability (WVP) were used to evaluate how the morphological structure of TSPU and the temperature influence the FV holes size. In DSC and DMA studies, TSPU with a crystalline transition reversible phase showed an obvious phase-separated structure and a phase transition temperature at $53^{\circ}C$ (defined as the switch temperature and used as a functional gate). Moreover, the switch temperature ($T_s$) and the thermal-sensitivity of TSPU remained available after two or three thermal cyclic processes. The PAL study indicated that the FV hole size of TSPU is closely related to the $T_s$. When the temperature varied cyclically from $T_s-10{\circ}C$ to $T_s+10^{\circ}C$, the average radius (R) of the FV holes of the TSPU membrane also shifted cyclically from 0.23 to 0.467 nm, exhibiting an "open-close" feature. As a result, the WVP of the TSPU membrane also shifted cyclically from 4.30 to $8.58\;kg/m^2{\cdot}d$, which produced an "increase-decrease" response to the thermo-stimuli. This phase transition accompanying significant changes in the FV hole size and WVP can be used to develop "smart materials" with functional gates and controllable water vapor permeation, which support the possible applications of TSPU for food packaging.

Very little information is known on the canning of fishery products by vacuum pack. In this paper, some fundamental process conditions for the canning of fishery products were investigated. Moisture-controlled mackerel pike, shrimp and oyster were packed in lacquered cans with spice and additives. After sealing, pressure of the cans were reduced by do-aeration through specially designed gas-tight silicone rubber plug previously attacked to the lid. On this investigation, vacuum can prior to thermal processing were set up to 15, 30, 45 and 60 cmHg, The higher vacuum in cans showed the more quick heat transfer in thermal processing. tinder 60 cmHg vacuum, the heat transfer was more quick than that of the conventional water packed products, Under 15 cmHg, however, the heat transfer was markedly increased by air which acted as an insulator in conductive heat transfer. These results demonstrated that high vacuum was essential secure for the heat processing in vacuum pack.
