  • PSHC(Prismatic Solar Hybrid Collector) is a passive solar system composed of prismatic acrly glazing, glazing and ventilating fan. This PSHC system is applied to effectively reduce heating ventilation load as well as lighting load. But so far no method appraising thermal performance of this PSHC system has been developed yet. To assess thermal performance of the PSHC system, a prototype PSHC experimental facility and TRNSYS subroutine type-205 model have been developed in Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER). The results indicated that l)TRNSYS empirical model of PSHC has been properly modeled with actual performance data, 2)a more reliable source of weather data such as NASA and KIER weather station have been also obtained, and therefore, 3)the annual energy performance of PSHC could be assessed based on this proposed TRNSYS model.

  • In this study, a thermomechanical numerical model was developed to evaluate the stability of energy slabs. First, a wall-type energy slab was installed in a residential underground parking lot, and thermal performance tests were conducted. Based on the tests, a numerical thermohydraulics model of the energy slab was developed to accurately simulate the thermal behavior in thermal performance tests. Finally, utilizing the temperature data acquired using the developed model, a thermomechanical numerical model of the energy slab was established. The thermomechanical model was then used to simulate the thermal stresses induced by operating the energy slab. The results demonstrated a maximum thermal stress of 5,300 kPa, which highlights the need to utilize cement mortar with sufficient tensile strength to realize stable operation of the energy slab.

The hybrid heat supply system was set up at Korea Institute Energy Research in 2011. The system was comprised of the wood pellet boiler unit with heat capacity designed as 20,000 kacal/hr, a evacuated tubular solar collector 3.74 $m^2$ of aperture area at the $20^{\circ}$ install angle, a 0.3 $m^3$ hot water storage tank, a 0.15 $m^3$ hot water storage tank for space heating. Thermal performance tests for one-house of apartment house were carried out by hot water load and heating load in winter season through the hybrid heat supply system. As a result, hot water energy supplied by the hybrid heat supply system was 11kWh in a day. Solar thermal energy portion was 2.99kWh which is 27% of the total hot water energy supply. wood pellet boiler supply portion was 8.017kWh which is 73% of the total hot water energy supply.

  • The advanced counties effort to the supplement of the zero energy buildings for the global building energy saving. In the middle of the development of passive technology, the government has to effort to the energy saving of buildings by enhanced performance of the window thermal insulation. By the method of enhanced performance of window thermal insulation, the use of vacuum double glazing saves the energy consumption in building. This glazing has low U-value(heat transmission coefficient) than normal double glazing. The vacuum glazing enhanced thermal insulation performance by vacuum space of between the glass and glass. For this vacuum glazing, pillar maintain the space between glass and glass. But this structure cause the raising the heat transmission coefficient in pillar approaching glass. This study confirmed the U-value by the test method of thermal resistance for windows and doors. Also this study confirmed the variation of heat transmission coefficient by the structure of vacuum glazing. And this study measured the surface temperature of the vacuum glazing about pillar approaching glass and vacuum space in cool chamber and hot box. That result, this study confirmed U-value of $0.422W/m^2{\cdot}K$ of vacuum glazing. Also this study confirmed U-value of $0.300{\sim}0.422W/m^2{\cdot}K$ by various the structure of vacuum glazing. And this study confirmed the heat flow in pillar approaching glass.

  • Lately, the scale of the primary energy consumption in Korea is ranked 10th in the world, and it takes up about 1.9% of the entire energy consumption in the world. And among total energy consumption in Korea, the ratio of the part corresponding to the residence or commercial buildings is about 30.5%. Also, with the increased interest in eco-friendly buildings, the production of eco-friendly building materials consisting of them also increases as well. However, since the process of their production generates much energy consumption, so this is being raised as a social problem. Therefore, this study suggests a method to improve thermal performance by using eco-friendly earth plastering materials and natural materials in order to reduce energy consumption in buildings. The experiment evaluated thermal performance by measuring the external and internal temperature of the curing after the plastering of 1cm in the wooden box of 30cm * 30cm * 30cm. As a result, there was difference in the order of powdered coal, pealite, chaff, and rice straw. Among them, powdered coal indicated excellent thermal performance. This will be the foundational research used to improve interior environment and reduce heating bills.

  • In the high oil price age, intensification of energy efficiency promotion in the building sector is required. Windows are dominating in large percent of whole building loads, and are regarding as the primary target of energy efficiency. In this study, in order to reduce heat loss of buildings, we investigate the thermal performance properties of Temperable Low-e glazing coated Ag membrane that has high electrical conductivity. The Temperable Low-e glazing windows has high insulation and shading properties, and it has strength that can supply various product which consumers want. In order to evaluate thermal performance of temperable windows, we install single low-e windows and double low-e windows in the experimental chamber and analysis the comparison heating energy consumption between single and double Low-e glazing windows. performance evaluation was conducted.

  • Studies have shown that the thermal performance of buildings changes depending on the year of construction completion. It leads to increased energy consumption of buildings and significant financial burden on users. Thus, this study has calculated the thermal insulation performance of 86 apartments quantitatively, using temperature difference ratio and sensible heat flux. Also, energy consumption characteristics depending on the year of construction completion and thermal insulation performance were analyzed by comparatively analyzing the results of insulation performance evaluation and heating costs. The analysis results are as follows. As for thermal insulation performance, it was around 70% lower in the apartments completed before 1985, compared to apartments completed after 2010. As for heating costs, the apartments with the highest heating cost incurred 1.5 higher heating cost than the apartment with the lowest heating cost. In terms of the insulation performance evaluation, the difference was 2.5-fold.

  • A Photovoltaic/Thermal(PVT) solar system consists of PV module and thermal absorber plate which convert the absorbed solar radiation into electricity and heat. Meaningful researches and development (R&D) on the PVT technologies have been performed since the 1970s. This paper presents a review of the previous works covering the various types of PVT and their performance analysis in terms of electrical and thermal efficiency. This review compares electrical and thermal efficiency of the different types of PVT collectors and analyzes the parameters affecting PVT performance. Based on the literature review, box charmel type PVT with unglazed, or flat plate PVT with glazed have the highest efficiency among them. From the literature review, R&D should be carried out aiming at improving their overall electrical and thermal efficiency and cutting down the cost, making them more competitive in the energy consumption market.

  • In this study, energy performance analysis of houses in zero energy demonstration town(ZeT) was carried out using the monitoring results. This ZeT was composed 29 zero energy individual houses(ZeH) which were applied passive as well as active technologies. The results are as follows. (1) Residents are generally considered to have been lacking basic mind to save energy, (2) In particular, average yearly total energy consumption per house is 12,834 kWh and specific heating energy is $53.2kWh/m^2{\cdot}yr$ which is higher than that of passive house. This is because of one of the reason just pointed out in subsection (1). (3) Most part of the residual energy load are supplied with only renewable energy, but not operating energy for geothermal heat pump which is use of cheap electricity.
