In order to analysis the degradation process of epoxy/glass fiber for outdoor condition, FRP laminate was exposed to high temperature and water. Then the degradation process was evaluated by comparing contact angle, surface potential decay, and surface resistivity. For the change of wettability, the contact angle of thermal-treated specimen with the high temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ increased. But that of water-treated specimen decreased. The characteristic of surface potential decay shows the tendency of the remarkable decrease on water-treated specimens, but no difference on thermal-treated specimen compared with untreated one. Also, for the surface resistivity, it shows the same trend compared with the change of contact angle.
To improve Mechanical and Thermal Properties of semiconducting materials in power cable, we have investigated those of semiconducting materials showed by changing the content of carbon black and Carbon Nanotube. Density were measured by EW-200SG. High temperature, heat degradation initiation temperature, and heat weight loss were measured by TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis). The dimension of measurement temperature was $0[^{\circ}C]$ J to $700[^{\circ}C]$, and rising temperature was $10[^{\circ}C/min]$. Heat degradation initiation temperature from the TGA results was decreased according to increasing the content of Carbon Nanotube. That is, heat stabilities of EVA containing the weak VA (vinyl acetate) against heat was measured the lowest. From the results of the experiment applied in this study, it is evident that a small amount of Carbon nanotube additives significantly improved the Mechanical and Thermal Properties of semiconducting materials.
Fully depleted Silicon-on-Insulator (FD-SOI) devices lead to better electrical characteristics than bulk CMOS devices. However, the presence of a thin top silicon layer and a buried SiO2 layer causes self-heating due to the low thermal conductivity of the buried oxide. The electrical characteristics of FDSOI devices strongly depend on the path of heat dissipation. In this paper, we present a new three-dimensional (3-D) analysis technique for the self-heating effect of the finger-type and bar-type transistors. The 3-D analysis results show that the drain current of the finger-type transistor is 14.7% smaller than that of the bar-type transistor due to the 3-D self-heating effect. We have learned that the rate of current degradation increases significantly when the width of a transistor is smaller that a critical value in a finger-type layout. The current degradation fro the 3-D structures of the finger-type and bar-type transistors is investigated and the design issues are also discussed.
Insulation system(200 class} for stator coil is designed for traction motor with VVVF inverter. Sample coils for stator of the traction motor were tested by accelerative thermal degradation which composed of heat, vibration, moisture, and overvoltage apply. Reliability and expected life were evaluated on the insulation system for 200 class traction motor. After aging of 10 cycles, tan ${\delta}$ increased with voltage. This result is due to increase of internal defects and change of insulation structure.
This study investigates the effects of long-term artificial-aging on hardness variation in the dissimilar metal weldments for nuclear power plant facilities. These dissimilar welds are inevitably required to join the components in nozzle parts of pressurized vessels, such as austenitic stainless steels and ferritic steels. A artificial thermal aging was conducted in an electrical furnace to simulate material degradation at high temperatures. The test materials were held at the temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ for 10000 hours and interrupted at various levels of degraded specimens. The degradation of hardness is a well-known phenomenon resulting from long-term aging or high-temperature degradation of structural materials. In this study, the variation of hardness at each position was different, and complicated in relation to microstructures such as twins, grains, precipitates, phase transformations, and residual stresses in dissimilar weldments. We discussed the variation of hardness in terms of microstructural changes during long-term aging.
It was used as measuring system to diagnose insulating condition, by which was kept a insulating resistance of inner stack and at the same time was cooled electrochemical heat of reaction of FCEV(fuel cell electric vehicle) stack that used a compressed hydrogen gas reacting with oxygen in accordance with variation on thermal degradation of nonconductive heat transfer fluid. Consequently it was developed a cylindrical multi-terminal capacitive-conductive sensor that could be attached to the internal surface of cooling system pipe to evaluate capacitance and conductivity of heat transfer fluid.
In this paper, we investigated the change of wettability, surface potential decay and dielectric properties caused by ultraviolet-treated, thermal-treated and discharge-treated FRP(fiber reinforced plastics) respectively for finding out the influence of dry treatments effected to electrical characteristics on the surface of polymer composites. For the change of wettability, the contact angle of thermal-treated specimen with the high temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ increased. But that of UV-treated and discharge- treated specimen decreased. The characteristic of surface potential decay shows the tendency of the remarkable decrease on UV-treated and discharge-treated specimens, but no difference on thermal-treated specimen compared with untreated one. Also, for the dielectric properties, it shows the increase at large on the treated specimens and especially, the remarkable increase on thermal-treated one.

In this study, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were compounded with the poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL) matrix at the solution state using chloroform. For homogeneous dispersion of MWCNTs in polymer matrix, oxygen-containing groups were introduced on the surface of MWCNTs. The mechanical properties of the PCL/MWCNTs composites were effectively increased due to the incorporation of MWCNTs. The composites were characterized using scanning electron microscopy in order to obtain information on the dispersion of MWCNT in the polymeric matrix. In case of 1.2 wt% of MWCNTs in the matrix, strength and modulus of the composite increased by 12.1% and 164.3%, respectively. In addition, the dispersion of MWCNTs in the PCL matrix resulted in substantial decrease of the electrical resistivity of the composites as the MWCNTs loading was increased from 0 to 2.0 wt%. Furthermore, thermal stability of the PCL and PCL/MWCNTs-COOH composites were investigated using the data acquired from the thermogravimetric analysis. The detailed kinetics of the thermal degradation of the composites was investigated by analyzing their thermal behavior at different heating rates in a nitrogen atmosphere. Activation energy of thermal degradation was determined by using the equations proposed by Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa. The apparent activation energy of PCL/MWCNTs-COOH composite was considerably higher than that of neat PCL.
In this paper, it was tried to find out the minimum measurement range in the diagnosis of insulators using thermal image camera, for the purpose, leakage currents and thermal images were observed simultaneously for the insulators of which surface had been artificially polluted by salt fog. As a result. the surface temperature was increased with leakage currents. Also, the results of AC breakdown tests for the insulator of which temperature rise was more than 1 $^{\circ}C$ showed to be bad. Therefore, through the study on the relationship between leakage current, temperature rise and AC breakdown voltages, the diagnosis of the insulator in site would be possible using the thermal image camera.
The $I_c$ degradation behaviors of externally-reinforced Bi-2223 superconducting tapes under pressurized liquid nitrogen were investigated. Tapes with different thickness of reinforcement layers were compared and the results showed that when the bending strain was calculated at the outer surface, the tape with the thicker reinforcement showed a better bending strain tolerance of $I_c$, but when the bending strain was calculated at the outermost filament, the $I_c$ degradation behavior became identical for all tapes. $I_{c0}$ decreased with the increase of applied pressure. After depressurization to atmospheric pressure from 1 MPa, the $I_c$ was completely recovered to its initial values. Ballooning occurred after a thermal cycle.
