  • This work is experimental study of 10 kW specialized Combined Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion. We propose a C-OTEC technology that directly uses exhaust thermal energy from power station condensers to heat the working fluid (R134a), and tests the feasibility of such power station by designing, manufacturing, installing, and operating a 10 kW-pilot facility. Power generation status was monitored by using exhaust thermal energy from an existing power plant located on the east coast of the Korean peninsula, heat exchange with 300 kW of heat capacity, and a turbine, which can exceed enthalpy efficiency of 45%. Output of 8.5 kW at efficiency of 3.5% was monitored when the condenser temperature and seawater temperature are $29^{\circ}C$ and $7.5^{\circ}C$, respectively. The evaluation of the impact of large-capacity C-OTEC technology on power station confirmed the increased value of the technology on existing power generating equipment by improving output value and reducing hot waste water. Through the research result, the technical possibility of C-OTEC has been confirmed, and it is being conducted at 200 kW-class to gain economic feasibility. Based on the results, authors present an empirical study result on the 200 kW C-OTEC design and review the impact on power plant.

  • The decrease in the summer peak electric load in our country is very important. The government has arranged and implemented a lot of support policies and statutes to decrease the peak electric load. And the ice thermal energy storage system is known as one of the alternatives. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the efficiency and thermal characteristics of the closed ice thermal energy storage system using screw capsules. The measured thermal energy storage density is about 18.4 USRT-h/m3 (=232.9 MJ/m3), which is higher than 13.0 USRT-h/m3 (=164.6 MJ/m3), a low criterion of normal performance. And The efficiency of the discharging process and the total energy utilization is 96.2% and 2028.4 kcal/kWh respectively.

  • Much energy is used in occupying stage of the Building Life Cycle. Electric charge is one of the various factors that influence on energy use of residents. This study focused on electric charge and searched that whether electric charge affects residents' behavior of operating air conditioner and their controlled indoor climate. We surveyed three groups for field study ; A group is residents who live in a studio apartment, B group is residents who live in a university dormitory and C group is residents who live in a apartment with their family. The A and C groups are charged for electric as energy consumption they used. And the B group is students who live in a university dormitory and they are not charged for their energy consumption. We measured the time to use the air conditioner for cooling, on/off temperature of air conditioner, and room air temperature for these three groups. The result shows that consideration for electric charge affects to the residents' behavior of operating air conditioner and their acceptable thermal range.

  • This paper studies about the assessment of thermal performance between wet ondol system and electric ondol system. Electrical ondol systems shows faster warm-up time, higher floor surface temperature distribution and lower power consumption than wet ondol system. However, if we provide heat regularly wet ondol system which has more heat capacity shows greater thermal storage than electric ondol system. Therefore, we could conclude that wet ondol system which keeps temperature regularly by the thermal storage show better energy-efficiency in case of using the central heating and district heating system. However, Electrical ondol system shows better efficiency in case of using the space during short time or individual heating systems which needs to heat quickly. The Experiment says that electric ondol system has more benefits on timing to reach the set temperature and energy-efficiency than wet ondol system.

  • The corrosion on steam generator tubes of the secondary side of pressurized water reactor inhibits heat transfer. One of the most efficient techniques improving the heat transfer performance of a nuclear electric generation is a corrosion control. The environmental parameters mostly affecting corrosion are materials and chemical additives. It seems that no further corrosion occurs in steels with Polyacrylic acid polymer dispersant treatment. Polyacrylic acid forms a protective coating with uniform thickness on metal surface. Polyacrylic treatment appears to be the most convenient way to enhance the thermal performance by the thermal conductivity improvement in steam generators.

  • This paper describes the strategy of a daily optimal operational scheduling on cogeneration systems with each other generation mode. The cogeneration systems consists of three generators. auxiiiary devices which are three auxiliary boilers, two waste boilers and three sludge incinerators. One unit that using the back pressure turbin generates the electrical and the thermal energy. The other two units that using the extraction condensing turbine generate the energy. Auxiliary devices operate to supplement the thermal energy to the thermal load with three units. The cogeneration system has a large capacity which is able to supply enough the thermal energy to the thermal load, however the electric power generated is insufficient to satisfy the electrical load. Therefore the insufficient electric energy is supplemented by buying electrical energy from the utility. Simulation was carried out using optimization toolbox. The result reveals that the proposed modeling and strategy can be effectively applied to cogeneration systems with each other generation mode.

  • In this paper, a new experimental method to determine the thermal resistance of building wall was proposed by improving the heat flow method (HFM) based on the air-surface temperature ratio theory. This technique measures the thermal resistance of the wall excluding the inner and outer surface heat transfer resistance. Unlike conventional HFM, this value can be compared directly with the theoretical reference value. Its performance was verified using three mock-up structures with a theoretical thermal transmittance of 0.5, 3.3, and 0.18 W/㎡·K respectively. After measuring the variations in the temperature and heat transfer rate of the mock-ups for 383 hours, the thermal transmittances were determined to be 0.47, 3.10, and 0.18 W/㎡·K, which corresponded to errors of 5.2, 6.2 and 0.5%, respectively, compared to the theoretical values. It was concluded that this technique can directly compare the thermal resistance of the wall between the existent stage and initial stage after construction.

  • Structure Insulated Panel (SIP) is an wooden structure material with which structure and insulation functions are satisfied. Hence, it would be a cost-effective model to implement low energy house which has higher insulation and structure performance and which the wall thickness is able to be reduced. In this study, performance of thermal insulation and fire resistance were evaluated in order to verify applicability to low energy house. Fire resistance test is performed on vertical load bearing members for partitions, and the test results satisfy one hour of fire resistance condition according to KS F 2257. The members include two layers of fireproof gypsum board with thicknesses of 12.5mm attached to SIP. Thermal insulation performance is satisfied with the 2012 standard ($0.225W/m^2{\cdot}K$). As the performance of resistance and thermal insulation are satisfied, SIP is expected to be applied to low energy building materials. In the future, the structural safety will be confirmed by structural performance and seismic performance test and the guidelines for distribution will be drawn up.
