Thermal environment of greenhouse was investigated by thermo-tracer in this study. The Thermo-tracer is a high-sensitivity infrared thermometer of non-contact type. The infrared energy emitted from the measured object is converted into an electrical signal by the detector(HgCdTe) and display as a color or black & white thermal image by way of optical scanning, The experiment was conducted for Venlo-type greenhouse with pad & fan system. The temperature difference between measured by Thermo-trace and measured by HOBO sensor is maximum 0.8$^{\circ}C$. Thermo-trace is possible to use for the thermal environment analysis and diagnosis of a cooling and heating system of greenhouse.
The domestic concrete standard specification(l999) reports roughly about heat transfer analysis and thermal stress analysis for mass concrete. Engineers cannot but choice after all numerical method such FEM, FDM to escape review. It seems to us that the specification is room for reconsideration because above methods are vary expensive and without popularity. This study suggests thermal distributed function in mass concrete. The function consists of two independent variables, curing time and depth. It's results have been tested a sensitivity for unit cement content, form condition, curing condition, and shape(depth, width). Results of the function are made a comparison with analytical values of MIDAS/CIVIL and a few measurement values. The researchers could meet with coherent and good results for variable cases.
A compliant mechanism is a mechanism that produces its motion by the flexibility of some or all of its members when input force or thermal load is applied. Whereas the topology optimizations based on homogenization and SIMP parameterization have been successfully applied for compliant mechanism design, ESO approach has been hardly considered yet for the optimization of these types of systems. In this paper, traditional ESO method is adopted to achieve the optimum design of a compliant mechanism for thermal load, since AESO method cannot consider the effect of both heat conduction and convection. Sensitivity number, a criterion for element removal in traditional ESO, was newly defined for input thermal loading. The procedure has been tested in numerical applications and compared with the results obtained by other methods to validate these approaches.
The thermal response of electronic components during infrared reflow soldering is studied by a two-dimensional numerical model. The convective, radiative and conduction heat transfer within the reflow oven as well as within the card assembly are simulated. Parametric study is also performed to determine the thermal response of electronic components to various conditions such as conveyor velocities, exhaust velocities and emissivities. The results of this study can be used in selecting the oven operating conditions to ensure proper solder melting and minimization of thermally induced card assembly stresses.
The shape of plate-fin type heat sink is numerically optimized to acquire the minimum pressure drop under the required temperature rise. In constrained nonlinear optimization problems of thermal/fluid systems, three fundamental difficulties such as high computational cost for function evaluations (i.e., pressure drop and thermal resistance), the absence of design sensitivity information, and the occurrence of numerical noise are commonly confronted. Thus, a sequential approximate optimization (SAO) algorithm has been introduced because it is very hard to obtain the optimal solutions of fluid/thermal systems by means of gradient-based optimization techniques. In this study, the progressive quadratic response surface method (PQRSM) based on the trust region algorithm, which is one of sequential approximate optimization algorithms, is used for optimization and the heat sink is optimized by combining it with the computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
A previous study demonstrated that the two-row fuel assembly has much more favorable neutron-physical and thermal-hydraulic behavior than the conventional one-row fuel assemblies. Based on the newly developed two-row fuel assembly, an SCWR core is proposed and analyzed. The performance of the proposed core is investigated with 3-D coupled neutron-physical and thermal-hydraulic calculations. During the coupling procedure, the thermal-hydraulic behavior is analyzed using a sub-channel analysis code and the neutron-physical performance is computed with a 3-D diffusion code. This paper presents the main results achieved thus far related to the distribution of some neutronic and thermal-hydraulic parameters. It shows that with adjustment of the coolant and moderator mass flow in different assemblies, promising neutron-physical and thermal-hydraulic behavior of the SCWR core is achieved. A sensitivity study of the heat transfer correlation is also performed. Since the pin power in fuel assemblies can be non-uniform, a sub-channel analysis is necessary in order to investigate the detailed distribution of thermal-hydraulic parameters in the hottest fuel assembly. The sub-channel analysis is performed based on the bundle averaged parameters obtained with the core analysis. With the sub-channel analysis approach, more precise evaluation of the hot channel factor and maximum cladding surface temperature can be achieved. The difference in the results obtained with both the sub-channel analysis and the fuel assembly homogenized method confirms the importance of the sub-channel analysis.
As an in-vessel retention (IVR) design concept in coping with a severe accident in the nuclear power plant during which time a considerable amount of core material may melt, external cooling of the reactor vessel has been suggested to protect the lower head from overheating due to relocated material from the core. The efficiency of the ex-vessel management may be estimated by the thermal margin defined as the ratio of the critical heat flux (CHF)to the actual heat flux from the reactor vessel. Principal factors affecting the thermal margin calculation are the amount of heat to be transferred downward from the molten pool, variation of heat flux with the angular position, and the amount of removable heat by external cooling In this paper a thorough literature survey is made and relevant models and correlations are critically reviewed and applied in terms of their capabilities and uncertainties in estimating the thermal margin to potential failure of the vessel on account of the CHF Results of the thermal margin calculation are statistically treated and the associated uncertainties are quantitatively evaluated to shed light on the issues requiring further attention and study in the near term. Our results indicated a higher thermal margin at the bottom than at the top of the vessel accounting for the natural convection within the hemispherical molten debris pool in the lower plenum. The information obtained from this study will serve as the backbone in identifying the maximum heat removal capability and limitations of the IVR technology called the Cerium Attack Syndrome Immunization Structures (COASISO) being developed for next generation reactors.
1) Germination rate was rather irregular than decreasing as increasing dose of radiation and there were no differences between Kyong-Sam and Chuong-Bang of Chinese cabbage. 2) In R1 generation, abnormal leaves from seedling of irradiated seeds were observed. These were more apparent in X-ray irradiation than in thermal neutron. 3) Seedling height was inhibited with increasing dose of X-ray and thermal neutrons. Growth inhibition was more remarkable in X-ray than in thermal neutron. Kyong-Sam demonstrated more sensitivity than Chyong-Bang in both X-ray and thermal neutron. 4) Seedling height produced from seeds subjected to thermal neutrons showed small variation around its mean value, while in X-irradiation there was a greater deviaton from the mean value. 5) Fertility was decreased as increasing with dose, while the frequency of abortive pollen was increased. There were variability of the fertility and frequency of abortive pollen among plants or branches of a plant. 6) The mutants were obtained more in thermal neutron irradiation than in X-ray. The types of mutations obtained in Chinese radish of R2 generation were abnormal leaf, densely glowing leaf, degeneration in growing point and dwarf. The maximum frequency of phenotypic mutations was abnormal leaf mutation.
A level set based topological shape optimization using extended B-spline basis functions is developed for steady state heat conduction problems. The only inside of complicated domain is identified by the level set functions and taken into account in computation. The solution of Hamilton-Jacobi equation leads to an optimal shape according to the normal velocity field determined from the sensitivity analysis, minimizing a thermal compliance while satisfying a volume constraint. To obtain exact shape sensitivity, the precise normal and curvature of geometry need to be determined using the level set and B-spline basis functions. The nucleation of holes is possible whenever and wherever necessary during the optimization using a topological derivative concept.
