This study aims to survey the living spaces of the welfare facilities for the aged to get the objective relationships between the physical thermal environment and the users' subjective responses. The surveys were made twice in winter and once in summer during 2001 and 2002. An ambient temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, globe temperature were measured as physical elements of thermal environment and the ASHRAE Psychophysical Voting Scale were used as an evaluation index for subjective responses. As the results, the aged respond thermally comfortable, in spite of the differences among important factors such as thermal sensations, humidity sensations and air velocity sensations. Also the physical thermal environmental elements and the subjective responses indices exceed thermal comfort range calculated by PMV(Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD(Predicted Percentage Dissatisfied). It shows that the insulation of walls of the facilities is not enough for heating and cooling seasons, and the indoor environmental control is necessary.

There is a principle of Korean Traditional Housing to be adapted for the nature using adaptable shapes to regional climate and easily available materials from the region then these environmentally friendly characteristics keep indoor environment from climate changes. These environmentally friendly characteristics to control indoor environment are very available for contemporary housing in that current issues, housing amenity and wellbeing, have basic goals same with what Korean Traditional Housing has. Therefore, this study begins to suggest fundamental data on indoor thermal environment control elements of Korean Traditional Housing to adapt those into contemporary housing through measurement of indoor thermal environment elements and evaluation on thermal sensation vote for Korean traditional housing. There was 24 hours measurement for indoor and outdoor thermal environmental elements to figure out competence to control indoor thermal environment of Korean Traditional Housing in summer. And subjective tests with 11 subjects was held in the morning, afternoon and night at intervals of 3${\sim}$4 hours to evaluate feeling and amenity for temperature and humidity of users.

Indoor thermal conditions greatly affect the health and comfort of humans who occupy the space in it. The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of water and vegetation elements as a microclimate modifier in buildings to obtain thermal comfort through the study of thermal environment models. This research covers two objects, namely public buildings and housing in Makassar City, South Sulawesi Prov-ince - Indonesia. Quantitative methods through field surveys and measurements based on thermal and personal variables. Data analysis based on ASHRAE 55 2020 standard. The data was processed with a parametric statistical approach and then simulated with the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation method to find a thermal prediction model. The model was made by increasing the ventilation area by 2.0 m2, adding 10% vegetation with shade plant characteristics, moving water features in the form of fountains and increasing the pool area by 15% to obtain PMV + 0.23, PPD + 8%, TSV-1 - +0, Ta_25.7℃, and relative humidity 63.5 - 66%. The evaluation shows that the operating temperature can analyze the visitor's comfort temperature range of >80% and comply with the ASHRAE 55-2020 standard. It is concluded that water elements and indoor vegetation can be microclimate modifiers in buildings to create desired comfort conditions and adaptive con-trols in buildings such as the arrangement of water elements and vegetation and ventilation systems to provide passive cooling effects in buildings.

The thermal comfort of indoor spaces is very important factor in our life. Regions, cultures, climates and individual difference for establishing thermally comfortable environments should be considered carefully because these factors have a large influence on the thermal comfort doing some complicated interactions with environmental, psychological and physical elements. Recently, predicted mean vote(PMV) based on the heat transfer theory between environmental factors and human bodies has evaluated by many researchers and widely used nowadays. The objective of this study is to evaluate the thermal comfort in workspaces with personal air conditioning system using the measurements of environmental comfort parameters and the questionnaire survey of occupant's thermal senses with response to the environment.

This study aimed for the scientific approach of Korean traditional house, so called Hanok, by analyses of structural elements and thermal environmental performance. Hanok is a very unique vernacular architectural style of the Middle East Asia that fits with climate conditions of the Korean Peninsular, designed to withstand high temperature and humidity in summer and cold and dry in winter seasons. In order to evaluate thermal environment of Hanok, its sectional structure such as floor, wall, roof structure and Ondol which is Korean traditional floor heating system, was built in 3D, as well as heat transfer mechanism of its composing elements was analyzed through 3 dimensional steady state analysis. The results of the thermal environmental performance of Hanok will be used as a basic datum of design guidelines for accomplishing ecologic housing fitted with local climate.
An analytical method for particulate carbon and other elements by using elemental analyzer was investigated. Carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen was determined as CO$_{2}$, H$_{2}$, and N$_{2}$, respectively. Organic was determined after scparation from elemental carbon(Cae) by volatilization and thermal decomposition in a heated helium flow. With organic materials examined in this reprot, more than 90% of carbon was detected as above 600$^{\circ}$C. But it is considered that a few percents of some compounds were charred above 550$^{\circ}$C. A small amount of Cae was oxidized in the inert atmosphere above 850$^{\circ}$C, but the reason was not explained clearly. Based on the thermal chracteristics of Cao it was found that the optimum temperature of heating in the helium flow of an elemental analyzer for Cao analysis is 630$^{\circ}$C. Carbon in a sample after removing Cao was assumed as Cae and the gramatom ratio of hydrogen to carbon in the sample was 0.4 and less. Rescovery of nitrogen derived from some ammonium salts and nitrates was 100% by two-step measurement with elemental analyzer. By the analytical method investigated in this report, carbon and other elements in suspended particulates(S.P) collected at an urban area in Seoul were measured. There was a good correlation between total nitrogen in SP measured by elemental analyzer and nitrogen estimated form ammonium ions and nitrate ions in SP. The nitrogen from these ions accounts for 80% of the total nitrogen. It is further suggested that the residue(20%) of the total nitrogen is attributed to the other nitrogeneous compounds.
The effects of atmospheric thermal loads on the response of structural elements that are exposed to open environments have been recognized by research works and design specifications. The main source of atmospheric heat is solar radiation, which dominates the variation of the temperature of air, earth surface and all exposed objects. The temperature distribution along the depth of steel members may differ with the geometry configuration, which means that the different-configuration steel members may suffer different thermally induced strains and stresses. In this research, an experimental steel beam was instrumented with many thermocouples in addition to other sensors. Surface temperatures, air temperature, solar radiation and wind speed measurements were recorded continuously for 21 summer days. Based on a finite element thermal analysis, which was verified using the experimental records, several parametric studies were directed to investigate the effect of the geometrical parameters of AISC standard steel sections on their thermal response. The results showed that the overall size of the beam, its depth and the thickness of its elements are of significant effect on vertical temperature distributions and temperature differences.
Various buildings constructed by environmentally friendly resources are being built in KOREA. Especially as the wood has distinctive ecological merits in comparison with reinforced concrete and brick, the buildings made by the wood are acknowledged with its superiority of ecological value. Enough field studies for their thermal environment, however, haven't been done. In this study, to investigate indoor environmental condition and occupants' response to it of Log Cabin in Gyeongsangnam-do Hamyang Country Jirisan Natural Recreation Forest, examination of indoor thermal environment and field subjective evaluation have been done in that fundamental information of thermal environment characteristics can be suggested. The results are following; 1) Thermal environment of the Log Cabins; Indoor and outdoor mean dry bulb temperature were $21.9^{\circ}C$ and $-3.1^{\circ}C$, and Indoor and outdoor average relative humidity were 25.8% and 52.1%. These results are below ASHRAE; dry bulb temp. $22.0^{\circ}C$, humidity 30%, and above domestic standards; dry bulb temp. $18{\sim}20.0^{\circ}C$, humidity $40{\sim}60%$. 2) Result of subjective evaluation; Thermal sensation and its comfort were evaluated as 'slightly uncomfortable' because of 'slightly warm'. And humid sensation and its comfort were evaluated as 'slightly uncomfortable' because of 'slightly warm'. 3) Result of vertical temperature and humidity; Vertical temperature difference from head to ankle was $0.54^{\circ}C$ which means most occupants may feel comfortable.
