Background/Aims: Adverse drug reaction (ADR) is an appreciably harmful or unpleasant reaction, resulting from an intervention related to the use of a medicinal product. The present study was conducted in order to monitor the frequency and severity of ADR during antimicrobial therapy of septicemia. Methods: A prospective, observational, and noncomparative study was conducted over a period of 6 months on patients of septicemia admitted at a university hospital. Naranjo algorithm scale was used for causality assessment. Severity assessment was done by Hartwig severity scale. Results: ADRs in selected hospitalized patients of septicemia was found to be in 26.5% of the study population. During the study period, 12 ADRs were confirmed occurring in 9, out of 34 admitted patients. Pediatric patients experienced maximum ADRs, 44.4%. Females experienced a significantly higher incidence of ADRs, 66.7%. According to Naranjo's probability scale, 8.3% of ADRs were found to be definite, 58.3% as probable, and 33.3% as possible. A higher proportion of these ADRs, 66.7% were preventable in nature. Severity assessment showed that more than half of ADRs were moderate. Teicoplanin was found to be the commonest antimicrobial agent associated with ADRs, followed by gemifloxacin and ofloxacin. Conclusions: The incidence and severity of ADRs observed in the present study was substantially high indicating the need of extra vigilant during the antimicrobial therapy of septicemia.

Cigarette smoke causes atypical structure of pulmonary and oxidative damage. Therefore, we carried out to determine if exposure to cigarette smoke alters pulmonary structure and anti-oxidant related enzyme in a animal model, when natural product extracts using by Nebulizer. The rat were divided into four groups: $H_2O-treated$ (Control), natural product (Camellia sinensis) extracts-treated (CS), natural product extracts-treated with cigarette smoke-exposed (CS+SM) and cigarette smoke-expose (SM). All groups are similar to Control group in weight, but SM group is lower than the other groups. Microscopic image of the pulmonary structure in SM group showed deleterious alterations in the morphology, but the other groups are maintained in normal structure. In anti-oxidant related enzymes, SOD (superoxide dismutase) and catalase, SM group represents the lowest enzyme activity among all groups. But G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) and LPO (lipid peroxidation) is SM group represents the highest enzyme activity among all groups. These result indicate that the natural product extracts is an efficient tissue protective substance against smoke-induced lung injury.
Purpose: The biggest problem of wound healing is a possible occurrence of lesion. Especially, in the case of patients who have a skin injury around exposed body parts, if their treatment period drag on for long time, they can suffer from aftereffects and the costs can be passed on to a society. Therefore, in this research, we investigated the need to develop the effective medicine and appliances for the patients by examining which therapy methods are being applying to the skin damage and what is the advantage and limit by evaluating the patient's satisfaction level. Methods: We carried out an online and offline survey targeting medical teams in order to analyze device for wound care. A total of 125 medical teams applied to the research, and investigate the level of customer satisfaction. Results: The moist dressings are the most used method for wound healing. When it comes to the level of customer satisfaction, biological dressing product also has a high satisfaction level. However its high cost tends to limit the use. Conclusion: This research reached a conclusion that it is need to develop a low cost and high efficiency wound care product considering the fact that its high cost and low efficiency induced economic problems. Generally, it is needed to develop a product for skin regeneration based on biological technologies, not a product just for damage cure.

Human ${\alpha}$-galactosidase A (GLA) has been used in enzyme replacement therapy for patients with Fabry disease. We expressed recombinant GLA from Chinese hamster ovary cells with very high productivity. When compared to an approved GLA (agalsidase beta), its size and charge were found to be smaller and more neutral. These differences resulted from the lack of terminal sialic acids playing essential roles in the serum half-life and proper tissue targeting. Because a simple sialylation reaction was not enough to increase the sialic acid content, a combined reaction using galactosyltransferase, sialyltransferase, and their sugar substrates at the same time was developed and optimized to reduce the incubation time. The product generated by this reaction had nearly the same size, isoelectric points, and sialic acid content as agalsidase beta. Furthermore, it had better in vivo efficacy to degrade the accumulated globotriaosylceramide in target organs of Fabry mice compared to an unmodified version.
Several methods have been used to treat androgenetic hair loss, ranging from hair transplants to finasteride and minoxidil. Sometimes platelet-rich plasma injection therapy may be used to increase the satisfaction of patients who come to the hospital. However, some patients are sensitive to pain and are subjected to the inconvenience of requiring treatment after each blood sampling. The author had reported the effects of using a hair growth-promoting solution and JetpeelTM in parallel with a painless hair loss treatment method. However, the author was interested in more effective methods for patients with M-shaped or vertex hair loss who do not want to take medications or undergo hair transplant. In addition to the existing light-emitting diode therapy and electromagnetic field treatment, the author has made considered attempts to use various laser wavelength bands. However, the equipment for these methods can be expensive and are not suitable for patients who emphasize on cost-effectiveness. Therefore, the author used an existing reported method and a device based on the fractional erbium:YAG laser to provide the hair growth-promoting solution in parallel. The author chose a fractional 2940 nm-based laser device as a medium that could efficiently increase the growth phase, reduce the catagen phase, and facilitate intradermal product and drug delivery. As a result, there was a therapeutic benefit without any significant side effects such as redness and itching. Among the patients, the author reported the effects of the treatment on one patient with frontal M-shaped, mid, and vertex hair loss.

Suicidal gene therapy is based on the transduction of tumor cells with "suicide" genes encoding for prodrug-activating enzymes that render target cells susceptible to prodrug treatment. Suicidal gene therapy results in the death of tumor with the expression of gene encoding enzyme that converts non-toxic prodrug into cytotoxic product. Cytochrome P450 4B1 (CYP4B1) activates 4-ipomeanol (4-IPO) or 2-aminoanthracene (2-AA) to cytotoxic furane epoxide and unsaturated dialdehyde intermediate. In this study, therapeutic effects of suicidal gene therapy with rabbit CYP4B1/2-AA or 4-IPO system were evaluated in HT-29 (human colon cancer cell). pcDNA-CYP4B1 vector was transfected into HT-29 by lipofection and stable transfectant was selected by treatment of hygromycin ($500{\mu}g/mL$) for 3 weeks. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis was performed for confirmation of CYP4B1 expression in CYP4B1 gene transduced cell. The cytotoxic effects of CYP4B1 transduced cell were determined using dye-exclusion assay after treatment of 2-AA or 4-IPO for 96 hrs. Dye-exclusion assay showed that $IC_{50}$ of HT-29 and CYP4B1 transduced HT-29 was 0.01 mM and 0.003 mM after 4-IPO or 2-AA treatment at 96 hrs exposure, respectively. In conclusion, CYP4B1 based prodrug gene therapy probably have the potential for treatment of colorectal adenocarcinoma.
The purposes of this study were to compare pelvic tilt. range of motion(ROM) of hip rotation, and leg length difference before and after manipulation and to investigate correlation between changes of each variables after manipulation of sacroiliac pint in 31 low back pain patients(11 males, 20 females) with sacroiliac pint dysfunction. The sacroiliac pint of patients was manipulated on the side of anterior pelvic tilt, using the technique described by Stoddard(1962) and Greenmann (1996). I used this technique because it usually eliminated sacroiliac Pint dysfunction in one treatment session. SPSS for window computer system was used to analyze the data. Also t-test was performed for comparison of the variables before and after manipulation, and Pearson product-moment correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed for changes of each variables after manipulation. The result were as follows: 1. The pelvic tilt after manipulation was significantly decreased(mean=$2.79^{\circ}$) compared with the pelvic tilt before manipulation(p=.001). 2. The PROM of hip internal rotation ipsilateral to anterior pelvic tilt after manipulation significantly decreased (mean = $1.88^{\circ}$) compared with hip internal rotation before manipulation (p=.008). The PROM of hip internal rotation ipsilateral to posterior pelvic tilt after manipulation significantly increased(mean = $1.29^{\circ}$) compared with hip internal rotation before manipulation (p=.029). 3. The PROM of hip external rotation ipsilateral to anterior pelvic tilt after manipulation significantly increased(mean=$2.42^{\circ}$) compared with the hip external rotation before manipulation(p=$2.42^{\circ}$) compared with the hip external rotation ipsilateral to posterior pelvic tilt after manipulation significantly decreased(mean = $1.84^{\circ}$) compared with the hip external rotation before manipulation (p=.008). 4. Leg length difference after manipulation significantly decreased(mean=2.15 mm) compared with leg length difference before manipulation (p=.008). Regression analysis revealed that a fair correlation was found between change in leg length difference and change in anterior pelvic tilt after manipulation(p=.009). 5. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to assess differences of the variables after manipulation. A fair correlation was found between change in leg length difference and change in anterior pelvic tilt after manipulation(r=.462, p<.01). A fair correlation was found between change in anterior pelvic tilt and change in hip internal rotation ipsilateral to anterior pelvic tilt(r=.397, p<.05) and between change in anterior pelvic tilt and change in hip external rotation ipsilateral to anterior pelvic tilt(r=.516, p<.01). A fair correlation was found between change in posterior pelvic tilt and changes in hip internal rotation ipsilateral to posterior pelvic tilt (r=.441, p<.05) and between change in posterior pelvic tilt and change in hip external rotation ipsilateral to posterior pelvic tilt(r=.361, p<.05). A fair correlation was found between change in hip internal rotation ipsilateral to anterior pelvic tilt and change in hip external rotation ipsilateral to posterior pelvic tilt(r=.388, p<.05) and between change in hip internal rotation ipsilateral to posterior pelvic tilt and change in hip internal rotation ipsilateral to anterior pelvic tilt(r=.426. p<.05).
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of computer-based creativity training. Four groups of vocational high school students totaling 151 were used as experimental subjects. Two dimensions of treatment were designed. One treatment dimension is the use of computer medium in education: computer based vs. paper-pencil setting of education. The second treatment dimension is the method of creativity training: technique-oriented training program vs. factor-oriented training program. Both a pretest and a post-test were administered to all participated students. The tests were composed of a Creative Figural Test and a Creative Product Test. After the pretest 8 sessions of creative training were delivered as intended in the design of the experiment. The Dost-test was arranged a week after the completion of the training sessions. The results of the study include: First, all the 4 groups showed certain amount of improvements in their scores of Creative Figural Test, while no improvements was observed in the creative product test score. Second, the technique-oriented creativity training was more effective than the factor-oriented under the context of computer-based education, and the factor-oriented training was more effective in the paper-pencil setting. The results suggest that different pedagogical approaches should be employed for computer-based training as compared to the paper-pencil education.

As a possible step to evaluate in the mammary gland the role of motherwort (Leonurus sibiricus L), a representative medicinal plant used traditionally for the therapy of gynecologic diseases, the effects of the agent on lactation which was suppressed by preganacy-dependent mammary tumors (PDMT) were studied in GR/A mice. Beginning the day of placing with males at 45-50 days of age, female mice were given 60% methanol-extract of the aerial part of motherwort as drinking water at the concentration of 0.5% throughout the experiment. Mice developing PDMT during pregnancy [PDMT(+)] and given motherwort were similar to mice developing no PDMT [PDMT(_)] with or without motherwort treatment and were significantly higher than PDMT(+) mice given tap water in litter growth and mammary RNA/DMA ratio on day 12 of the 2nd lactation. Mammary DNA and RNA contents were also elevated by motherwort in PDMT(+) mice. The results suggest that motherwort can ameliorate lactation suppressed by PDMT through its stimulation of both growth and function of the mammary glands.
Purpose : The purposes of this study were to investigate the age-related difference in balance ability in the elderly over 65 years and to verify the clinical usefulness of the functional reach test (FRT) for balance evaluation of the elderly through the sensory organization test (SOT). Methods : The subjects were forty-six community dwelling elderly people over 65 years old in order to verify the correlation of balance measures and to compare the balance ability. Balance was measured using the FRT and the six sub-equilibrium scores and the composite equilibrium score of the SOT. Pearson's product correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the relationships among these measurements of balance. Results : There was a significant difference in functional reach by age in the elderly (p<.01). There was a significant negative correlation between the FRT and the age of the elderly (r=-.396, p<.01). There was also significant high positive correlation between the FRT and the eye closed sway surface (EC/SS) (r=.789, p<.01), and composite equilibrium score (r=.548, p<.01) of the SOT. Conclusion : Thus, it is possible to use the FRT as a quantitative measure of balance, rather than the SOT, which is more expensive and complicated to evaluate elderly people. According to the results of this study, the use of the FRT is required clinically to objectively measure the balance of elderly people in the future.
