Purpose. The purposes of this methodologic paper are to (1) describe theoretical background in conducting research across different cultures; (2) address measurement issues related to instrument administration; and (3) provide strategies to deal with measurement issues. Methods. A thorough review of the literature was conducted. A theoretical background is provided, and examples of administering instrument in studies are described. Results. When applying an instrument to different cultures, both equivalence and bias need to be established. Three levels of equivalence, i.e., construct equivalence, measurement unit equivalence, and full score comparability, need to be explained to maintain the same concept being measured. In this paper, sources of bias in construct, method, and item are discussed. Issues related to instrument administration in a cross-cultural study are described. Conclusion. Researchers need to acknowledge various group differences in concept and/or language that include a specific set of symbols and norms. There is a need to question the philosophical and conceptual appropriateness of an assessment measure that has been conceptualized and operationalized in a different culture. Additionally, testing different response formats such as narrowing response range can be considered to reduce bias.

This paper presents a comprehensive overview of recent model developments and practical issues in spatial downscaling of coarse resolution satellite-derived products. First, theoretical aspects of spatial downscaling models that have been applied when auxiliary variables are available at a finer spatial resolution are outlined and discussed. Based on a thorough literature survey, the spatial downscaling models are classified into two categories, including regression-based and component decomposition-based approaches, and their characteristics and limitations are then discussed. Second, open issues that have not been fully taken into account and future research directions, including quantification of uncertainty, trend component estimation across spatial scales, and an extension to a spatiotemporal downscaling framework, are discussed. If methodological developments pertaining to these issues are done in the near future, spatial downscaling is expected to play an important role in providing rich thematic information at the target spatial resolution.

Koreans began to undertake the conservation of their art and architectural artifacts approximately fifty years ago after modern concept of conservation were introduced by japanese during the Japanese Colonial Period(1910-1945). But still the modern concept of conservation is not clear to many Korean conservators because they have been concerned about conservation techniques to recover the original from of the remains be destroyed. Also, Korean conservation practice has neglected the philosophical issues and ethics of conservation. So, in this article, I described various terms referring to 'conservation' which have been used in western countries, Japan, China, and Korea, and compared their similarities and differences to have more clear idea on the modern concept of conservation. In the next chapter, I summarized several theoretical issues which had been discussed among western conservators over the centuries. Specially, I described closely the modern issues and ethics which have been presented in the twentieth century. As many conservation projects in Korea have resulted unsatisfactorily or been suspended altogether, because lacking a coherent theoretical dialogue on conservation and discussing an ethical issues of conservation. Therefore, I believe that more vigorous dialogue on these issues in Korea may lead conservators to consider their tasks in a more productive light, and the Korean artifacts may preserve well.

This paper is a review and assessment of 1122 articles on families in later life from 5 journals published during 1980 and 1995. theoretical and methodological issues family relationships in later life social support network caregiving attitudes and stress life satisfaction and stress of the aged and welfare system for the aged are the major areas examined. The review indicates that this area of research in quantity has increased rapidly since 195. Relationships between aged parents and their adult children focusing on caregiving attitudes behavior and stresses for supporting their parents among the children and adjustment/life satisfaction of the aged are dominantly investigated. However most of the research are non-theoretical and descriptive in nature and the influences of socio-economic variables such as sex health economic status and educational level on dependent variables are widely investigated. Future research questions and issues under the sub-ares of families in lat r life is provided. Further directions and suggestions for future research works on families in later life in general are provided with particular emphasis on conceptual and methodological issues.

This study aims to extend the research areas of the organization behavior(OB) fields. The paper assumes that the main thrust of "Productivity through people" in the traditional OB has to be replaced by the "Creativity through people" paradigm. OB research issues and topics have not been expended or explored during the past 40 years, but been criticized such as a saturated field and even more "moribund or fallow" areas. Recently, new theoretical and research trends are identified in the area of creativity studies and in OB in general. Conceptual debates and different thoughts on the creativity studies (including creative behaviors) are reviewed selectively. Also, some theoretical issues and research implications are discussed and suggested.

The purpose of this research is to bring out some practical issues of housing studies prblished by Home Economics researchers since 1980. There were 299 articles related to housing in three major journals such as Journal of the Korean one Economics Association Journal of Korean Home Management Association and Housing Research Journal. It has been remarkable progress in terms of the quality as well as the number of articles during 20 years. However this study could be brought out some research issues in the methodological and theoretical aspects to improve the applicability of housing studies to dedicate family life and housing policies.

The primary purpose of this paper is to critically examine the theoretical and methodological issues in the study of generations. The issues include: 1) the concept of generation: 2) the basis of generational formation: 3) internal differentiation of generations: 4) the boundary problems of generations: 4) the boundary problems of generations: and 5) generational differences and generational conflict. From the investigation of these issues, two conclusions are drawn. Firstly, Mannheim's basic concepts and theoretical frameworks are very useful to understand and explain the social movements and sociocultural changes. Secondly, however, further elaboration and modification of the several concepts and frameworks are needed to deal with the problems of generations in general which are not directly connected to social movements. Several points are suggested to elaborate Mannheim's frameworks, which include the reconceptualization of generation, and introducing the concepts of “generation sects” and “manifest-latent generational conflicts”.

It can be suggested that social geography in the 2000s in Korea has achieved a considerable development, dealing with various theories and issues. This suggestion can be identified first of all with the publication of several texts of Social Geography in this period. For important theoretical discussions, the neoliberal glocalization process of capitalist economy has promoted geographical researches from the perspective of political economy, and the development of information and communication technology, increasing foreign immigrants, environmental problems such as the global warming, and social participation and empowerment of women in Korea have increased social geographical concerns with and theoretical discussions on informational society and city, multiculturalism and/or transnationalism, political ecology and environmental justice, and feminism. This paper provides a review on these major issues in recent theoretical discussions in social geography in Korea, and suggests a brief comment on its future development.

The purpose of this study was to reveal controversial issues on Stages of Concern(SoC), which is one of the dimensions of Concerns Based Adoption Model(CBAM). To achieve the purpose, documental analysis was employed. The theoretical framework to analyze literature consisted of three categories including stages, measurements, and applications. Based on the framework, controversial issues on SoC were discussed regarding arguments of CBAM developers and critics. The researchers of this study suggested their own opinions on the issues after thorough examination of CBAM developer's arguments and oppositions against them. Finally, suggestions for further studies on issues of SoC and studies measuring SoC were made.
