Synthesis of Metal and Ceramic Magnetic Nanoparticles by Levitational Gas Condensation (LGC)

  • Nickel (Ni) and ferrite ($Fe_3O_4$, $NiFe_2O_4$) nanoparticles were synthesized by LGC using both wire feeding (WF) and micron powder feeding (MPF) systems. Phase evolution and magnetic properties were then investigated. The Ni nanopowder included magnetic-ordered phases. The LGC synthesis yielded spherical particles with large coercivity while the abnormal initial magnetization curve for Ni indicated a non-collinear magnetic structure between the core and surface layer of the particles. Since the XRD pattern cannot actually distinguish between magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) and maghemite (${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$) as they have a spinel type structure, the phase of the iron oxide in the samples was unveiled by $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The synthesized Ni-ferrite consisted of single domain particles, including an unusual ionic state. The synthesized nanopowder bore an active surface due to the defects that affected abnormal magnetic properties.

Properties of the metallic glass thin films fabricated by multicomponent single alloying target and its applications in various industrial fields

  • Metallic glass alloys having dense packing structure have short range ordered structure with long range homogeneity. Therefore, they can provide complete corrosion protection and unique electrical properties. Recently, metallic glass thin films have received much attention to extend its application fields combining with PVC coating technologies. The metallic glass thin films can change the surface properties of the conventional bulk materials which need anticorrosion properties. However, multi-component alloying targets are required to fabricate the metallic glass thin films because metallic glass alloys contain more than three elements. Recently, many researchers have been reported the properties of the metallic glass thin films synthesized with multi-cathode systems or amorphous target. But, it is difficult to fabricate the large sized sputtering targets for mass production equipment with high toughness and thermal stability. In this study, newly developed sputtering target with glass forming ability and the properties of the metallic glass thin films will be introduced with respect to the various application fields such as bipolar plate in PEM fuel cell and decorative coatings for electric device and construction fields.

MaRMI-III: A Methodology for Component-Based Development

  • As component-based development (CBD) rapidly spread throughout the software industry, a comprehensive methodology is needed to apply it more systematically. For this purpose, a new CBD methodology named Magic & Robust Methodology Integrated III (MaRMI-III) has been developed. The purpose of this paper is to present MaRMI-III by its constituent processes and claim that it can be used to support system developers conduct CBD in a consistent manner. First, we review the CBD approach to system development and the role of CBD methodology, and then we explain the several characteristics of MaRMI-III which are considered necessary to the CBD environment. Next, we explain a process model of MaRMI-III which separates the development process from the project management process and prescribes well-ordered activities and tasks that the developer should conduct. Each phase forming the Process Model is explained in terms of its objectives and main constituent activities. Some techniques and workproducts related to each phase are also explained. Finally, to examine the usefulness of MaRMI-III, an analytical comparison with other CBD methodologies and the results of a questionnaire survey are described.

Physical Properties of $Ba_{1-x}Sr_x(Mg{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$Ceramics ($Ba_{1-x}Sr_x(Mg{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ 세라믹스의 물리적 특성)

  • The physical and electrical properties of $\textrm{Ba}_1$ $_{x}\textrm{Sr}_{x}$($\textrm{Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}}$)$\textrm{O}_3$ (x =0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) ceramics were investigated. The Bal $_{x}\textrm{Sr}_{x}$($\textrm{Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}}$)$\textrm{O}_3$ systems were shown that the hexagonally ordered superlattices were increased with increasing x values. The relative densities of all samples were over 97% theoretical densities. The dc resistivities of samples were $10^{13}$ - $10^{14}$$\Omega\textrm{cm}$at room temperature, these values were nearly constant at 130(x=0)-$230^{\circ}C$ (x=l). However, the resistivities of samples decreased rapidly above those temperature and their activation energies were from 1.0 to 1.52 eV. The relative dielectric constant was 33(BMN) and 30.6(SMN) respectively. And the highest value was shown at x=0.4 and the value was 34.3. The temperature coefficient of dielectric constant was -61 ppm/$^{\circ}C$(BMN) and 79 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ (SMN) respectively.

The Balancing of Disassembly Line of Automobile Engine Using Genetic Algorithm (GA) in Fuzzy Environment

  • Disassembly is one of the important activities in treating with the product at the End of Life time (EOL). Disassembly is defined as a systematic technique in dividing the products into its constituent elements, segments, sub-assemblies, and other groups. We concern with a Fuzzy Disassembly Line Balancing Problem (FDLBP) with multiple objectives in this article that it needs to allocation of disassembly tasks to the ordered group of disassembly Work Stations. Tasks-processing times are fuzzy numbers with triangular membership functions. Four objectives are acquired that include: (1) Minimization of number of disassembly work stations; (2) Minimization of sum of idle time periods from all work stations by ensuring from similar idle time at any work-station; (3) Maximization of preference in removal the hazardous parts at the shortest possible time; and (4) Maximization of preference in removal the high-demand parts before low-demand parts. This suggested model was initially solved by GAMS software and then using Genetic Algorithm (GA) in MATLAB software. This model has been utilized to balance automotive engine disassembly line in fuzzy environment. The fuzzy results derived from two software programs have been compared by ranking technique using mean and fuzzy dispersion with each other. The result of this comparison shows that genetic algorithm and solving it by MATLAB may be assumed as an efficient solution and effective algorithm to solve FDLBP in terms of quality of solution and determination of optimal sequence.

  • Service Function Chaining (SFC) supports services through linking an ordered list of functions. There may be multiple instances of the same function, which provides a challenge to select available instances for all the functions in an SFC and generate a specific Service Function Path (SFP). Aiming to solve the problem of SFP selection, we propose an architecture consisting of distributed SFP algorithm and central control mechanism. Nodes generate distributed routings based on the first function and destination node in each service request. Controller supervises all of the distributed routing tables and modifies paths as required. The architecture is scalable, robust and quickly reacts to failures because of distributed routings. Besides, it enables centralized and direct control of the forwarding behavior with the help of central control mechanism. Simulation results show that distributed routing tables can generate efficient SFP and the average cost is acceptable. Compared with other algorithms, our design has a good performance on average cost of paths and load balancing, and the response delay to service requests is much lower.

  • To improve mechanical properties of Cu-Al-Ni alloy by the grain refinement, Cu-Al-Ni SMA ribbons were fabricated by melt spinning apparatus. The variations of microstructure, mechanical properties and transformation characteristics with the condition of rapid solidification and annealing time-temperature were investigated in Cu-Al-Ni SMA ribbons. The ribbons fabricated by melt spinning obtained around 1.5nm in width and 50-60${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in thickness. With increasing wheel speed in order of 10m/s, 15m/s, 20m/s, 30m/s and 3m/s, the grain size was decreased in order of 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 6.25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 5.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. $M_{s}$ and $A_{s}$ temperature were decreased with decreasing grain size. By X-ray diffraction test, ordered $\beta$$_1$ phase was observed in all the SMA ribbons and the volume friction of it was increased with increasing wheel speed. With increasing wheel speed, strain was increased from 4.2% to 5.8% and fracture mode has changed from mixture of intergranular and dimple fracture to mixture of fiber structure and dimple fracture. The grain size of ribbon heat-treated at $600^{\circ}C$ was increased with increasing time. In the heat-treated ribbons at 55$0^{\circ}C$, ${\gamma}$$_2$ phases were observed.d.d.

An Efficient Soft-Output MIMO Detection Method Based on a Multiple-Channel-Ordering Technique

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient soft-output signal detection method for spatially multiplexed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The proposed method is based on the ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC) algorithm, but it significantly improves the performance of the original OSIC algorithm by solving the error propagation problem. The proposed method combines this enhanced OSIC algorithm with a multiple-channel-ordering technique in a very efficient way. As a result, the log likelihood ratio values can be computed by using a very small set of candidate symbol vectors. The proposed method has been synthesized with a 0.13-${\mu}m$ CMOS technology for a $4{\times}4$ 16-QAM MIMO system. The simulation and implementation results show that the proposed detector provides a very good solution in terms of performance and hardware complexity.

Nanoplasmonics: Enabling Platform for Integrated Photonics and Sensing

  • Strong interactions between electromagnetic radiation and electrons at metallic interfaces or in metallic nanostructures lead to resonant oscillations called surface plasmon resonance with fascinating properties: light confinement in subwavelength dimensions and enhancement of optical near fields, just to name a few [1,2]. By utilizing the properties enabled by geometry dependent localization of surface plasmons, metal photonics or plasmonics offers a promise of enabling novel photonic components and systems for integrated photonics or sensing applications [3-5]. The versatility of the nanoplasmonic platform is described in this talk on three folds: our findings on an enhanced ultracompact photodetector based on nanoridge plasmonics for photonic integrated circuit applications [3], a colorimetric sensing of miRNA based on a nanoplasmonic core-satellite assembly for label-free and on-chip sensing applications [4], and a controlled fabrication of plasmonic nanostructures on a flexible substrate based on a transfer printing process for ultra-sensitive and noise free flexible bio-sensing applications [5]. For integrated photonics, nanoplasmonics offers interesting opportunities providing the material and dimensional compatibility with ultra-small silicon electronics and the integrative functionality using hybrid photonic and electronic nanostructures. For sensing applications, remarkable changes in scattering colors stemming from a plasmonic coupling effect of gold nanoplasmonic particles have been utilized to demonstrate a detection of microRNAs at the femtomolar level with selectivity. As top-down or bottom-up fabrication of such nanoscale structures is limited to more conventional substrates, we have approached the controlled fabrication of highly ordered nanostructures using a transfer printing of pre-functionalized nanodisks on flexible substrates for more enabling applications of nanoplasmonics.

  • Traditional Pub/Sub(Publish/Subscribe) Systems search all subscriptions that match an incoming event by broker(i.e. it is not considering the accuracy of matching between an incoming event and subscriptions and only consider that an event either matches a subscription or not). However, subscriptions that match an event may have priority, therefore, we need priority Pub/Sub system. In this paper, we define what the accuracy means in order to prioritize among subscriptions and propose the Priority Retrieval Technique based on accuracy that able to search subscriptions. The Priority Retrieval Technique is based on IS-Lists. We can search the results ordered by accuracy.
