There were significant differences in both trait and state anxiety between the two groups. The retirement group reported the higher level of both trait and state anxiety than the non retirement. And there was significant difference in "increased anxiety level by retirement"(state anxiety-trait anxiety) between the two groups. The retirement group reported the higher level of increased anxiety than the non retirement group. The state anxiety of the retirement group was significantly different by the retirement-related factors such as health state, the presence or absence of leisure activity and plan for later life, etc. The opinion of the two groups on the present retirement system was generally negative. • The purpose of this study was to examine the relations between fatigue, family function and self-esteem among middle-aged women in menopausal periods. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaire survey form 133 middle-aged women. The data collection was done from March 2nd to April 10th, 2012. As a results, there were significant differences in fatigue by education level and menstrual status. And, there were significant differences in family function according to education level and marital status. Also, there were significant differences in self-esteem by education level, marital status and monthly income. Fatigue was negatively related to family function and self-esteem. And family function was positively related to self-esteem. These results suggest that nursing intervention should be developed to strengthen family function and self-esteem as a way to regulate fatigue for middle-aged women in menopausal periods. Especially, it is necessary to pay more attention to health management of middle-aged women belonging to menopausal transition, with low-income, low-education level.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a design process for a functional and sensible brassiere for muddle - aged women. As a methodology, an engineering design process QFD (Quality Function Deployment) was adopted to translate the consumer's needs into product design parameters. the customer needs for the wear comfort of brassieres were extracted from a survey of 100 women aged 30 - 40. To select which items were critical and which could be traded off for other attributed or benefits. the importance ratings for the customer needs were determined. Customer needs were translated into technical language by various physical test methods and wear tests. The customer competitive assessment was generated by wear tests of 10 commercial brassieres under controlled environmental conditions of 28${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$, 65${\pm}$3% RH. The relationship matrix between the customer needs and the means of delivering the needs was developed. Using the QFD methodology, design elements for developing a brassiere for middle-aged women could be analyzed and organized efficiently.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the mediating effects of walking days on body mass index (BMI) according to the public transportation satisfaction of middle aged Koreans aged 40-59 in Korea using the 2015 community health survey data. The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for provision of the neighborhood environment and support programs for the walking activity and promotion of daily walking activities among middle aged people. Among 228,558 individuals, 85,344 middle aged people aged 40-59 years were selected as final subjects for analysis. The data were analyzed with the open source statistics program R 3.4.1 to determine whether the number of walking days had a mediating effect on body mass index (BMI) as an independent variable. The Sobel test revealed that the number of walking days increased by B=0.010(p=.010), and that when the satisfaction with public transportation increased, B=-0.052 (p=.021), the number of walking days decreased by B=-0.038 (p=.001). To increase the number of walking days and decrease the body mass index by increasing public transportation satisfaction by increasing the use of public transportation, public transportation fare adequacy and access convenience among the public transportation satisfaction mentioned above should be improved more than the current level. It is not easy for individuals that live in small cities to reach their destination by public transportation after leaving the metropolitan area; therefore, improvement of public transportation systems is necessary to improve health.

  • [Purpose] This study analyzed data from the 7th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016-2018) to compare the differences in energy intake and physical activity (PA) levels in middle-aged Korean men aged 40-59 years according to household type and the presence of metabolic syndrome (MetS). [Methods] Data from 2,266 young adults (aged >39 years and <60 years) were obtained from the KNHANES. We analyzed the differences in energy intake and PA levels according to household type and MetS. The presence or absence of MetS was determined by measuring waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, and HDL-C levels. [Results] Regarding total nutritional intake, no relationship with MetS was observed regardless of household type (interaction between MetS and household type: p = 0.875). No differences in total PA were observed between multiple- and single-person households (interaction between MetS and household type: p = 0.122). The relationship between MetS and MetS components according to nutritional intake showed that participants with a higher energy intake had a 27% lower prevalence of low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (p < 0.05) and a 36% higher prevalence of high blood pressure (p < 0.01). The relationship between MetS and MetS components according to the PA level showed significantly reduced prevalence of MetS by approximately 39%, 35%, and 43% (p < 0.01, 0.01, and 0.001) in subjects who were somewhat active, active, and very active, respectively, compared to inactivity. [Conclusion] Middle-aged men showed no difference in nutritional intake and PA between multiple- and single-person households. However, the risk of MetS was significantly higher in participants with approximately 1.5 times the energy intake compared to the group with the lowest energy intake. Moreover, higher levels of PA had a marked positive effect on the risk factors and prevalence of MetS. Therefore, we suggest that reducing the total energy intake and increasing total PA are important for preventing MetS in middle-aged men regardless of household type.
