Recent trains have broadband train communication networks to improve train operation safety and to provide passengers with multimedia services. Compared to glass optical fiber, plastic optical fiber (POF) has a large diameter; it also provides the good durability and maintainability necessary to railway applications. This paper suggests an All-IP broadband train communication network that connects all devices in the train through a POF interface. Performance tests according to Korean railroad standards shows that this POF interface is usable in the range of vibration and temperature conditions encountered in trains. A dedicated Layer-2 switch with the POF interface is developed for the construction of the All-IP train communication network. A prototype 1Gbps train communication network was set up in a trial-run of train on a metro line using the developed Layer-2 switch and POF. On-track tests indicated the feasibility of the POF train communication network. POF has an additional advantage of economic feasibility, and it is expected to start a trend toward broadband train communication networks using POF.

This study proposed more reasonable prediction models on compressive strength and carbonation of concrete structure and developed a more effective tunnel safety diagnosis and maintenance method through field application of the proposed prediction models. For this study, the Seoul Metro's Line 1 through Line 4 were selected as target structures because they were built more than 30 years ago and have accumulated numerous diagnosis and maintenance data for about 15 years. As a result of the analysis of compressive strength and carbonation, we were able to draw prediction models with accuracy of more than 80% and confirmed the prediction model's reliability by comparing it with the existing models. We've also confirmed field suitability of the prediction models by applying field, the average error of an estimate on compressive strength and carbonation depth was about 20%, which showed an accuracy of more than 80%. We developed a more effective maintenance method using durability prediction Map before field inspection. With the durability prediction Map, diagnostic engineers and structure managers can easily detect the vulnerable points, which might have failed to reach the standard of designed strength or have a high probability of corrosion due to carbonation, therefore, it is expected to make it possible for them to diagnose and maintain tunnels more effectively and efficiently.

Recently, subscribers have strong desire to get QoS based personalized services in high-speed Internet access. Service providers have been rapidly replacing ADSL, cable broadband access networks with Metro-Ethernet based VDSL. But, it is difficult for Motto-Ethernet based broadband access networks to provide QoS based personalized services, because already deployed network elements cannot distinguish subscribers by specific traffic characteristics. In this paper, when the access network has tree topology, we show that it is possible to provide QoS for each downstream flow with only per flow traffic shaping at the edge node without QoS functions in access networks. In order to show that our suggested scheduling algorithm at the edge node can support the assured service in tree topology access networks, we evaluated its performance by simulation. The suggested scheduling algorithm can shape per-flow traffic based on the maximum bandwidth, and guarantees minimum bandwidth per flow by modifying the DRR scheduler. Simulation results show that congestion and loss in the access network elements are greatly reduced, TCP performance is highly enhanced and loss for assured CBR service flows is reduced by only shaping per-flow traffic at the edge node using our proposed scheduling algorithm.

In many countries, most of the tunneling works have been ordered by the shield TBM, and also Korean companies are actively bidding and execute in this project. In case of Korea, refurbished machines are mainly using in power cable, gas pipelines, and water and sewage tunnel. Also in metro projects, shield TBM of over diameter 7m is required mainly by using brand new machine. Since the shield TBM is not easy to change once it is produced, it is necessary for the client to provide sufficient information on the production conditions so as to satisfy various characteristics of the construction. In this study, to manufacturing optimal shield TBM, the Client's TBM requirements of tunnel construction in Hong Kong and UK was analyzed and compared with the domestic requirements. The results are expected to provide as client's guidelines for bidding stage and manufacturing for shield TBM tunneling in Korea in the future.

Recently, controversy has been a growing over senior ride-free programs that provide free rides on the subway for those aged 65 or older. In this study, we compare and analyze changes in awareness levels about senior ride-free programs over the past ten years, targeting local government officials in Busan and Gimhae. Busan and Gimhae support an operational deficit of the Busan-Gimhae light rail system, which is the only subway that does not permit senior citizens to ride for free in South Korea. This study traces changes in the level of awareness of local government officials and presents administrative and policy recommendations. We conducted surveys in September of 2011 and April of 2021, finding that the level of awareness clearly differed before and after the opening of the Busan-Gimhae light rail system. We found that positive and negative responses arrived at similar percentages as time passed. Additionally, we found that the percentage of positive statements decreased over time if respondents did not have transportation-related work experience. Also, over time, we found that examining alternatives took priority as opposed to maintaining the current senior ride-free program.
This study was conducted from the time when discussion of improvement and keeping heavy taxation on multiple home owners was began, experts who may express professional opinion such as realtors, tax accountants and revenue officers were picked up besides the direct interested parties such as single and multiple home owners. This study collected their various opinions regarding whether keeping the heavy taxation system on multiple home owners or not and the effect of it. As a result of the survey, people living in Seoul who owned more houses showed higher awareness about heavy taxation on multiple home owners, and people agreed more about abolishing the heavy taxation when they own more homes. From this study, it was found out that different recognition about heavier transfer income tax on multiple home owners of each person concerned and necessity of rearranging this uncertain condition of temporary regulation in the future. The tax law should be improved to supply clear policy signals to the market for recovery of housing transactions and supply expansion of jeonsei to monthly rental housing and managing of taxation policy which reflects taxpayers' opinion may correspond to more effective and fair taxation principle.
In accordance with low carbon and green growth paradigm, a subway is one of major public transit systems for resolving traffic congestion and decreasing traffic accidents. In addition, as subway networks expand, passengers' travel pattern in the subway network change and consequently affect the urban structure. Generally, new subway route has been planned and developed, mainly considering a travel demand forecast. However, it is desired to conduct an empirical analysis on the forecast model regarding change of travel accessibility and passenger demand pattern according to new subway line. Therefore, in this paper, an alternative method, developed based upon a spatial syntax model, is proposed for evaluating new subway route in terms of passenger's mobility and network accessibility. In a case study, we constructed subway network data, mainly targeting the no 9 subway line opened in 2009. With an axial-map analysis, we calculated spatial characteristics to describe topological movement interface. We then analyzed actual modal shift and change on demand of passengers through the number of subway passenger between subway stations and the number of passenger according to comparative bus line from Smart Card to validate suggested methods. Results show that the proposed method provides quantitative means of visualizing passenger flow in subway route planning and of analyzing the time-space characteristics of network. Also, it is expected that the proposed method can be utilized for predicting a passengers' pattern and its impact on public transportation.
This paper deals with development of a damage risk assessment system for adjacent buildings to under-passing tunnel face considering 3D-ground movement. The system consists of building and ground information module, monitoring data module, settlement evaluation module, and building damage risk assessment module. The major modules, settlement evaluation module and building damage assessment module, are based on settlement estimation model suggested by Attewell et al (1982) and the building damage assessment method by Mair et al. (1996). After estimating 3D-ground movements due to tunneling with settlement evaluation module, damage assessment far buildings is performed using building damage risk assessment module. The developed system has two major functions; 1) calculation of 3D-settlement with ground loss ($V_{s}$)or maximum settlement ($w_{max}$) and inflection point (i) using various empirical formulae, monitoring data, numerical results, and so on; 2) assessment of damage risk for adjacent buildings of arbitrary section with position change of tunnel face. The field data given by Boscadin and Cording (1989) leer the case of two-storied masonry building near the Metro tunnel in Washington D.C. was simulated to verify the applicability of the developed system.
SeoulMetro(line number 1 to 4) for the first half of the year. Therefore air quality in the subway is very important. It is passengers, such as sneezing and respiratory vital activities, Suspended due to skin keratin microbial action, and Microbial contaminants such as viruses. Hypersensitivity disorders, an atopic dermatitis, infectious diseases, allergic diseases, and can cause respiratory diseases. Ministry of Environment and National Institute of Environmental Research is managed so the life bacteria. It is emerging as the occupational health problems. Introduction of an appropriate ventilation system for cooling and dehumidification is needed. In line number 2, commuting and normal trains are measured in-room floating microbes. Suspended bacteria and fungi suspended in 2011 for 85 ~ 385$cfu/m^3$, 67 ~ 98$cfu/m^3$ is lower than baseline. Suspended to prevent microbial contamination and air conditioning equipment performance is a substantial improvement. Suspended micro-organisms and the impact on passenger room ventilation is increased. Electric car how to improve air quality substantially investigated.

Carrier Ethernet backbone network integrates distributed layer-2 based metro networks. In this networks, Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) has been uscd as a main routing protocol that allows multiple spanning trees in a network. A better routing protocol called IEEE802.1aq - Shortest Path Bridging (SPB) is recently proposed, that generates the shortest spanning tree per a destination node. As SPB provides a routing path per a destination node, there is no way to adapt network traffic at normal condition. If we are free from the principle of "a spanning tree per a destination node", we can achieve adaptive routing. Based on this philosophy, we propose a new spanning tree based protocol - Edge Node Divided Spanning Tree (ENDIST). ENDIST divides an edge node into sub-nodes as many as connecting links from the node and each sub-node generates a single shortest path tree based on SPB. Depending on network or nodal status, ENDIST chooses a better routing path by flow-basis. This added traffic engineering ability contributes to enhanced throughput and reduced delay in backbone networks. The simulation informs us that ENDIST's throughput under heavy load performs about 3.4-5.8 and 1.5-2.0 times compared with STP's and SPB's one respectively. Also, we verified that ENDIST's throughput corresponds to the theoretical upper bound at half of cases we investigated. This means that the proposed ENDIST is a dramatically enhanced and the close-to-perfect spanning tree based routing schemes.
