  • The purpose of this study was to clarify how adolescent recognize their father according to the father demographic characteristics. The analysis was performed for 400 students in Seoul on the basis of two measuring tools that were adolescent's father image criterion developed from Seon hwa Cho, Myung seon Choi(2004) and semantic analysis criterion from Osgood(l957). Father image were inclined to friend when their father was younger. Adolescent were recognizing their father as a friend, advisor, and able man when their father had high level profession. On the other hand they felt father as a difficult being to make intimate relationship when their father had management occupations. Christian and Buddhist fathers were recognized as a advisor. Catholic and Christian father were showing less tired aspect rather than Buddhist and atheism father. Catholic and Buddhist fathers were recognized more active person. Adolescent were recognized their father as a friend, advisor, and able man when their father were high educated person.

  • Yu-hua's disharmony with his personal and inner 'father' in his first-half novel expanded to expose the absence of the role of the social and national 'father' in the latter half. Yu-hua's novels revealed his personal sense of resistance through the absence of his father, and then expanded the negative "father image" in this family to the state and society to shed light on the absence and irresponsibility of the "father" in Chinese society and the state. I think that reading Yu-hua's novels in this way in the future will make it easier to understand the theme of these novels, and also to recognize the time value of these novels.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the self-image of fathers who have younger children. For this purpose, this researcher conducted profound interviews with 6 fathers residing in P city who have young children in order to identify images that they were having about themselves. The interviews were conducted from Aug. 7th to 30th, 2012 over a total of 3 sessions for each of the subjects on the basis of 1 session a week and 1 or 1 and a half hours per session. The findings of this study showed that the subjects were having different self-images that could be largely classified into five categories, 'father who can't do for family as much as he wants', 'father who has not yet been successful', 'father who feels lonely under his own duty and responsibility, 'father who sacrifices himself for family' and 'father who is different from fathers of the past'. Based on the analysis and discussions of these findings, this study suggested how fathers having younger children should do to have a better image about themselves.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand children's viewpoints on their fathers from a phenomenological perspective. Sixty nine elementary school children (2nd and 5th grade) were asked to write poems about their fathers. Through the poems, they described their feelings towards their fathers in their own words. Results indicated that the most prominent and popular description for the father was in terms of the provider of the family. Because of the excessive emphasis on the provider role, fathers are very busy and tired, and can not Participate actively in their children's daily life. As a result, many fathers are in an on-looker position in their homes, and their children are spoiled. On the other hand, children described their fathers as warm, kind- hearted, respectable and great images that gave everything to their children. They liked and sincerely appreciated these aspects of their fathers. Because of the gap between the ideal image of the father and the actual provider image of the father, children experience conflict and a psychological deficit of a father. We believe that this problem will be improved through the fathers' own awareness of their role which pays more attention to our children's wellbeing and a reform of the existing social system.

  • In this paper, the image segmentation method based on the hierarchical pyramid image structure of reduced resolution versions of the image for solving the problems in the conventional methods is presented. This method is described the object detection and delineation by statistical approach. In the object detection method, IFSVR( Inverse-father-son variance ratio) method and FSVR(father-son variance ratio ) method are proposed for solving clustering validity problem occurred In the hierarchical pyramid image structure. An optimal object pixel Is detected at some level by this method. In the object delineation method, the iterative algorithm by top-down traversing method is proposed for moving the optimal object pixel to levels of higher resolution. Using the computer simulation, the results by the proposed statistical methods and object traversing method are investigated for the binary Image and the real image. At the results of computer simulation, the proposed methods of image segmentation based on the hierarchical pyramid Image structure seem to have useful properties and deserve consideration as a possible alternative to existing methods of image segmentation. The computation for the proposed method is required 0(log n) for n${\times}$n input image.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the image perceived by fathers of children with Internet addiction. To achieve the study purpose, we conducted depth interviews with ten fathers of children with Internet addiction who had been diagnosed as At-Risk through a face to face meeting. The reason for choosing face to face interviews was to listen to the subjective stories and descriptions from fathers about the kind of fathers they are, which are felt and experienced in real life. More specifically, we selected the depth-interview methods through structured questions and non-structured questions. The interviews were held for two or three hours through an individual meeting of ten fathers and data were collected in order to conduct a categorical analysis. The figures discovered from fathers of children were divided into four categories; the father figure who is indifferent to the Internet use of his child, the father figure depending only on education through the Internet, the father figure who is in a weaker point than the Internet and the father figure who is addicted to the Internet. Based on the study results, we suggested the desirable behaviors, which may be useful for both fathers and children with Internet addiction as well as a follow-up study.

  • In the history, 'father' has been described as a being who not only take care of the family but also represents the family socially and supports them. Like the Western patriarchal tradition prevalent in the 19th century, fathers in Korean society also bear patriarchal paternity based on Korean traditional Confucian culture. In such a unique family culture of Korea, Korean fathers hold the patriarchal male centered idea and regard it as the roles of man and father to be responsible for the family's living and safety and to be more rational than emotional and more blunt than gentle. Social ideology for this image of father is expressed in media, and an example is the patriarchal image of father in TV dramas and movies. In order to analyze the image of Korean fathers described in films, this study selected two films and examined the semiological meanings of fathers' roles expressed in the films using Metz's syntagmatic and paradigmatic analysis method. The films chosen for case study are 'Fly Daddy', 'The Show Must Go On', and 'Speed Scandal'. These films are good examples demonstrating that Korean patriarchal paternity and its background traditional ideology are projected on media.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of adolescents' body image and communication with their parents on the alienation of male and female middle school students. The subjects were 253 middle school students. The data were analyzed with SPSS win 18.0 using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test and stepwise regression. The findings showed that problematic communication with the father was the strongest factor in explaining the alienation of male middle school students. The second strongest factor was the middles school student's open communication with the mother, and the third strongest factor was the middle school student's perception of physical health. Unlike male students, open communication with the father was the strongest factor in explaining the alienation of female middle school students. Problematic communication with the mother was the second strongest factor. Perception of physical appearance was the third strongest, and perception of physical health was the fourth strongest factor. Based on the results of the study, implications were discussed in terms of the alienation of male and female middle school students.

  • Using a data set drawn from 1419 college students, this study analyzes what implications clothing or fashion has on self-expression or image management in Korean society and who are more likely to use fashion as a image management tool in the process of interacting with others. Employing Pierre Bourdieu's concept of capital, we discuss three theories concerning correspondence between class and fashion: the theory focusing on economic capital in emphasizing the correspondence; the theory focusing on cultural capital in emphasizing the correspondence and the theory emphasizing relationships between fashion and other factors rather than class. Based on the theoretical examination, we select independent variables that can be grouped into status/class variables, or economic capital variables(such as subjective status, income, father's education, father's occupation) and socio-cultural variables, or cultural capital variables(such as possession of cultural capital, desire for upward mobility). Upon regressing strategic use of fashion on independent variables, we find that both status/class variables and socio-cultural variables are statistically significant in explaining the strategic mobilization of fashion for one's image production or social success. It shows that class as a form of economic capital has important effects on the strategic use of fashion, and cultural capital also has effects independent of economic capital.
