  • In order to investigate the appropriate processing season and the production of high value-added products in ark shell(Scapharca subcrenata) cultured at the south coast of Korea, the foot muscle, mantle, and adductor muscle were analyzed for moisture, protein, fat, ash, and glycogen using specimens collected bimonthly from December 1994 to December 1995. The contents of moisture in foot muscle and mantle increased in spring season, however their proteins decreased in same season. Glycogen and fat in foot muscle, mantle, and adductor muscle were most abundant in June, just before the spawning season, but all the cmponsnts dwindled during spawning season. The other hand, the contents of ash in tissues were almost the same level through the year. Thus, the contents of moisture, protein, fat, and glycogen were almost the same level through the year. Thus, the contents of moisture, protein, aft, and glycogen were fluctuated by season. Especially, they showed a marked seasonal variation at before and after sparning season. So, a major cause of seasonal variation in S. subcrenata would be connected with a period of reproduction and spawning season.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of foot mats on reducing levels of fatigue, discomfort, lower extremity edema and skin temperature in scrub nurses during surgery. Methods: This study employed one group repeated measures design in which 16 scrub nurses (ages 22-38) stood on steel footstools (SF) during scrub as the conventional test and stood on SF with foot mats as the experimental test. Levels of fatigue, discomfort, lower extremity edema and skin temperature were measured before the first surgical hand scrub and right after the first surgery of the day for 3 consecutive days in both tests. Results: The changes in levels of fatigue and discomfort were significantly different between tests (p<.001~.033). Edema, determined by the differences in circumferences of the ankles and calves before and after the surgery was also significantly different between groups (p=.001~.011). However, the change in skin temperature on the foot tops of both feet was not different between tests (p=.351~.467). Conclusion: The results of this study show that using foot mats on top of the steel footstool is effective in reducing the levels of fatigue, discomfort and lower extremity edema in scrub nurses during surgery.

  • The purpose of this study was to employing MRI in the estimation of the biomechanical body segment parameters of Korean adults. for this purpose MRI study on 19 Korean living subjects were used to measurement. All the parameters that was concerned were inertial characteristics of human body mass of each segment, center of mass of them and the length of radius of gyration of them. The cross sectional images and saggital images of every 1cm interval were got using the 0.5 Tesla MRI from the top of head to the bottom of foot, whole body. And then, by tracing the images of the film and scanning them, got the area which the several tissues occupied in the image of slice. By summing the area of slice of each segment which were calculating and by multipling the density of the tissues, got the mass of segment and other inertial characteristics. The ratios of radius of gyration in both transverse axis and longitudinal axis though the segmental mass and segment length are as follow: male A : head($0.229\pm0.0029$), neck($0.256\pm0.0095$), thorax($0.374\pm0.0059$) abdomen($0.245\pm0.0020$), pelvis($0.368\pm0.0106$), thigh($0.288\pm0.0030$) shank($0.280\pm0.0043$), foot($0.277\pm0.0195$), upperarm($0.311\pm0.0074$) forearm($0.286\pm0.0051$), hand($0.253\pm0.0095$) female A : head($0.214\pm0.0032$), neck($0.254\pm0.0112$), thorax($0.295\pm0.0061$) abdomen($0.289\pm0.0021$), pelvis($0.329\pm0.0108$), thigh($0.288\pm0.0036$) shank($0.280\pm0.0047$), foot($0.243\pm0.0206$), upperarm($0.279\pm0.0083$) forearm($0.286\pm0.0048$), hand($0.229\pm0.0097$) male B : head($0.532\pm0.0006$), neck($0.533\pm0.0006$), thorax($0.658\pm0.0008$) abdomen($1.350\pm0.0022$), pelvis($0.875\pm0.0002$), thigh($0.213\pm0.0001$) shank($0.160\pm0.0001$), foot($0.152\pm0.0002$), upperarm($0.136\pm0.0002$) forearm($0.202\pm0.0002$), hand($0.273\pm0.0006$) female B : head($0.198\pm0.0002$), neck($0.335\pm0.0011$), thorax($0.238\pm0.0001$) abdomen($0.888\pm0.0001$), pelvis($1.318\pm0.0117$), thigh($0.095\pm0.0001$) shank($0.075\pm0.0001$), foot($0.181\pm0.0006$), upperarm($0.0.062\pm0.0001$) forearm($0.083\pm0.0001$), hand($0.105\pm0.0007$).

  • Cold hypersensitivity is the condition with unusual cold sensitivity at temperature when others don't feel so. It is not disease in itself, but is known as having relationship with infertility, dysmenorrhea, anemia and endocrine disorder. The symptoms of cold hypersensitivity appear on limbs and abdomen especially, and may affect bowel movement such as constipation or diarrhea. We made a research of 86 healthy young girls who took medical examination and examined subjective bowel habit. The patients were divided into three group by defecation type, constipation(42), diarrhea(14) and normal group(30). Temperature differences$({\Delta}Ts)$ measured by DITI on upper and lower abdomen of each group had not statistically significance. Otherwise ${\Delta}Ts$ between upper arm and palm and between upper leg and foot were statistically signigicant. The severity of cold hypersensitivity on hands was in order constipation, normal and diarrhea group, and same as feet. The diarrhea patients had more severe cold hypersensitivity as compared with constipation patients. Correlation between ${\Delta}Ts$ on abdomen and hands or feet didn't exist. ${\Delta}Ts$ on hands and feet, however, had positive relationship. This research showed cold hypersensitivity could be related with diarrhea.

  • The functional loot orthoses, when wearing shoes, are in the direct contact with bottom of foots to improve and recover the correctness of abnormal lower limb musculoskeletal imbalance and the primary role of foot and also, it can act to keep the balance and weight of body and support the weakened region, so that it is very helpful to keep body balance for the standing position. In this paper, it was researched that foot orthoses which is accommodable for the function of impact absorption including the gait stability affect on the balanced performances of body in according to the formation and the material of foot part. Taking into account the balanced performances by using the sway velocity, the estimation and comparison of the effects on the balanced performances by each formation and material for foot orthoses was evaluated into significant values(p<0.006) in only the eye-opening posture with Firm state, In this posture, the static process performed by each foot formation reveals in order of normal foot(p<0.010), flat foot(p<0.000) and hollow foot(p<0.003) and then, on the base of each formation of foot part, the result that analyze the effects of the materials of foot orthoses on the balance performance appeared showing that soft materials is more effective on the normal foot and, on the other hand, rigid materials is more effective in balancing on flat foot and hollow foot.

  • Quinolone antibiotics are frequently prescribed for suspected respiratory or urinary tract infections because of their effectiveness and generally perceived safety profile. On the other hand, some studies have raised concerns regarding the potential association between quinolone use and Achilles tendinopathy or tendon rupture. There is a lack of reports on the link between quinolone use and multiple tendon and tendon attachment site pain in the foot and ankle joints; hence, this study examined this issue further. This paper presents a case report of a patient with persistent Achilles tendinopathy and multiple tendon and tendon attachment site pain in the foot who did not respond adequately to conservative treatments. In particular, the discontinuation of quinolone use resulted in favorable clinical outcomes. This report offers valuable insights into the potential risks associated with quinolone antibiotics and highlights the importance of vigilance when managing patients with tendon-related complaints. A comprehensive review of the relevant literature is also presented to contextualize these findings.
