체계적 문헌고찰을 통한 국내 치과공포 연구 동향분석 (2007-2017) (A systematic review of Korean research trends in dental fear between 2007-2017)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the overall research trends and factors influencing dental fears in the last 10 years (2007-2017) and provide recommendations for future research. Methods: The literature review focused on dental fear research in Korea. Inclusion criteria of selected studies were as follows: studies that examined fear in middle school students or older, studies undertaken between 2007-2017, and studies that examined trends and factors relating to dental fears. Results: Findings from this literature review showed that the most commonly used tool for measuring dental fear was the Dental Fear Survey (DFS). A lack of trust towards the dentist increased dental fear among patients. Women managed fear better than men. Past pain experiences increased dental fear. The most frequent intervention for reducing fear was sound (41.7%). Most of the intervention studies demonstrated a reduction of fear, with the exception of interventions using ear plugs. Fear was increased in studies involving ear plugs. Conclusions: Based on the results of the study, specific measures should be taken to alleviate past pain experiences, such as the fear of anesthetic injections and sensations of the dental drill. Continuous research is needed to reduce dental fear.

청정식품의 종류에 따른 치면세균막 제거효과 비교 (A Comparison of Plaque Control Effects of Detergent Food)

  • 이 연구는 2012년 3월부터 6월까지 3개월간 평균 연령 20.6세의 남자 14명(38.8%), 여자 22명(61.1%)을 대상으로 청정식품의 치면세균막 제거효과를 비교한 비동등성 통제군 사전-사후 측정 설계연구이다. 청정식품 저작 전 구강환경관리능력지수(PHP index)를 사전측정하고, 오이, 배, 당근, 복숭아를 30회씩 저작한 뒤 사후 측정하여 비교하였다. 자료 분석은 SPSS 18.0 (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA)을 이용하여, 청정식품간 PHP index를 ANOVA로 비교하였고, 저작 전과 후의 청정식품별 PHP index 차이를 paired t-test로 파악한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 1. 모든 청정식품에서 저작 전에 비해 저작 후의 PHP index가 유의하게 감소하였다. 2. 청정식품간의 PHP index는 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 결론적으로 청정식품은 치면세균막 제거에 어느 정도 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 청정식품 종류에 따른 치면세균막 제거효과의 차이는 밝혀내지 못하였다. 향후 관련된 여러 요인을 보다 정교하게 통제하고, 다양한 청정식품을 활용한 임상시험연구로 실증적인 치면세균막 제거효과를 연구할 필요가 있을 것이다.

지역사회 치위생관리과정에 기반한 지역사회치위생학 실습 학습목표 타당화 연구 (A study on the validation of learning goals of community dental hygiene practicum based on the community dental hygiene process of care)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to define the concept of the community dental hygiene process of care and to develop competency-based learning goals applying the community dental hygiene process of care. Methods: Based on 12 references, the concept of community dental hygiene process of care was defined, and 393 learning objectives were derived to carry out the first and second categorization process. The 57 learning goals were classified according to the 15-week learning subject (once a week) for project learning. To evaluate the validity of the developed learning subjects and goals, 80 community dental hygiene professors were surveyed. The final learning subjects and goals were created by going through the process of collecting opinions from the 35 validity evaluation results received as responses, and opinions from 10 community dental hygiene professors. Results: The first and second validity surveys on the operational definition of community dental hygiene process of care showed 4.32 points and 4.60 points, respectively. As a result of the evaluation of the validity of the learning subjects and goals for 1~15 weeks, the average validity of the learning subjects was 4.44 points, and of learning goals was 4.32 points. Conclusions: The learning subjects and goals developed by applying the theoretical framework for community dental hygiene process of care defined in this study can be used as a learning guideline for learners to understand the theory of community dental hygiene area and to derive the standards of competence in the field of practice.

시럽 여부에 따른 커피 섭취 후 구취 수치의 차이 : 증례보고 (Difference of malodor according to intake of coffee with syrup or without syrup : Case report)

  • The coffee demand market in Korea is growing every year, and the adults drink an average of one cup of coffee every day. In order to investigate the effect of coffee on oral malodor, 15 Korean subjects were recruited. There were no significant differences in the values of oral malodor using BB checker(Taiyo, Japan) in the factors of sex, smoking, drinking, feeling oral malodor by themselves, feeling oral malodor by others, periodic scaling, activity of Streptococcus mutans, bleeding on probing, and coffee drinking habits. Patient hygiene performance index, calculus index, index of coat on the tongue, toothbrushing time, toothbrushing frequency had no correlation with oral malodor. The difference between before and after drinking coffee with syrup(17.93±16.54) was significant, but the difference between before and after drinking coffee without syrup(1.13±14.75) was not significant. We suggested the cause of oral malodor after drinking coffee was syrup, but not coffee.

예비치과위생사의 임상실습 경험에 대한 질적 연구 : 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 중심으로 (A qualitative study on the dental hygiene student experiences of clinical practice : Focus group interview)

  • Objectives: This study is intended to provide a basic resource on the role of dental hygienists. It also intends to establish the identity of future dental hygienists by analyzing the clinical roles of currently practicing dental hygienists through the perspectives of dental hygiene students. Methods: The analysis was performed using the phenomenological method, and it involved 11 participants enrolled between November 20, 2019 and January 20, 2020. Methods: The analysis was done in the phenomenological method on total 11 participants from November 20, 2019 to January 20, 2020. Results: They were exposed to various types of learning. They did not have a sense of belonging, and they experienced the burden of self-learning. They experienced work burden beyond the legal work boundary and a lack of infection control by clinical institutions. They were not respected as professional workers, and they had poor working conditions. Their expertise was not recognized. Conclusions: This study will facilitate appropriate awareness and establish the identity of dental hygienists by critically evaluating their challenges and working conditions and presenting alternatives.

Proposal for dementia-related curriculum development for dental hygiene degree programs in Korea

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine the current state of dementia-related education for dental hygiene degree programs in Korea, as well as to develop a dementia-related curriculum for dental hygiene programs suitable for the social characteristics of Korea. Methods: The study was conducted between April and November 2018. First, the current state of dementia-related education for dental hygiene programs in colleges throughout Korea and dementia-related education for other health care-related fields were investigated. Based on the initial findings, the basic content of the preliminary curriculum was constructed. Second, based on the opinion of the dementia-related curriculum development committee comprising 10 professors of dental hygiene, the operations of dementia-related courses and relevant details were constructed. Third, these operations and relevant details were assessed and revised based on focus-group interviews. Fourth, the dementia-related curriculum was developed based on the study findings and literature review. Results: The name of the course in the developed curriculum was set as "Elderly Dental Hygiene and Practicum." The course was established as a "major elective," and was offered as two units with two instructional sessions of two hours each. The learning goal for this course was acquiring the methods for understanding and managing the characteristics of the elderly. A consensus was reached regarding conducting the theoretical and practical lessons on some of the dementia-related content. The dementia-related curriculum comprised 10 "required contents" which is to be conducted over three weeks of theoretical lessons and two weeks of practical lessons. Conclusions: With the growing elderly population, the development and operation of the curriculum for geriatric oral health interventions are warranted in dental hygiene education. However, continued discussions and improvements are needed on the extent of educational content, considering various dementia-related symptoms and general geriatric systemic diseases.

전남지역 일부 치위생과 학생의 윤리교육에 따른 도덕성 발달수준 평가 (An Evaluation of the level of moral development of dental hygiene students by ethics education in the province of Jeonnam)

  • This study was conducted to evaluated the level of moral development of dental hygiene students in Korea. Data were collected through self reported questionnaires received from 197 dental hygiene students from May 6 to 28, 2008. The Korean version of the DIT(Defining issues Test) was adopted to evaluate levels of moral development that the score of P(%) and stage 4. The data were analyzed by a descriptive analyses and t-test. The mean score of P(%) and stage 4 was $45.21{\pm}12.69$ and $21.28{\pm}11.06$ respectively. The score of P(%) revealed significant difference by experience of ethical education, medical ethics education and work ethics education and necessity of medical and work ethics education, clinical practice exercise. The score of stage 4 revealed significant differences by necessity of work ethics education, participation of ethics education and importance of ethics education. In conclusion, for enhancing dental hygienists' moral development it is necessary to improve the curriculum and to develop the ethics education.

치위생과 학생들의 교육 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors that Affect Satisfaction of Education for Dental Hygiene Students)

  • 본 연구는 치위생과 학생들의 교육만족도에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 경기도, 충청도, 전라도에 소재하고 있는 6개 대학 치위생과에 재학 중인 1학년과 2학년, 3학년 학생 1,840명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였으며, SPSS WIN 12.0을 이용하여 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 학년별 만족도의 차이는 '학과만족도', '전공만족도', '시설만족도', '강의만족도'가 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타냈다(p < 0.05). 2. 지역별 만족도의 차이는 '학과만족도', '전공만족도', '시설만족도', '강의만족도', '교수만족도' 모든 항목에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타냈다(p < 0.05). 3. 치위생과에 대한 만족도의 차이는 치위생과에 대한 사전지식(p = .000), 치위생과에 대한 인지 경로(p = .001), 치위생과에 대한 선택 시기(p = .025), 치위생과에 대한 선택 동기 (p = .000), 치위생과 졸업 후 취업분야(p = .016), 치위생과 졸업 후 취업기간(p = .0000) 등이 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타냈다.

치과의료폐기물에 대한 치과위생사의 지식 측정 연구 (A study on the knowledge measurement of dental hygienists about dental waste)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to measure the knowledge of dental hygienists regarding dental waste, and identify the relationship between general characteristics and infection control characteristics. Methods: This study was conducted using a self-reported questionnaire in 250 dental hygienists. The questionnaire consisted of 21 items: storage container (5 items), storage locations (5 items), storage period (9 items), and storage method (3 items). The collected data were analyzed using the t-test and analysis of variance. Results: The education experience of infection management within the last year was reviewed for significant differences among dental hygienists regarding storage container and storage periods (p<0.05). Statistically significant differences were observed regarding the knowledge of storage container, storage locations, storage period, and storage method among the enrolled dental hygienists (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study examined the necessity of developing conservative education and job education programs to improve the knowledge level of dental hygienists regarding dental waste management.

Comparison of the Effects of General and Pregnant Women's Dentifrices on the Removal of the Dental Plaque

  • Background: This study tries to compare and analyze the removal effect of dental plaque of general dentifrice and pregnant women's dentifrice and quantify the results to provide basic data so that consumers can make reasonable choices when purchasing dentifrice, and also increase interest in the dental plaque. Methods: After forming a dental plaque (carbohydrate porridge) on the labial surface of the bovine teeth, a disclosing agent was applied. Then the same experimenter brushed the surface of the bovine teeth using an electric toothbrush and took photographs using a DSLR camera. Thereafter, the residual amount of dental plaque was analyzed using the ImageJ program, and SPSS 26.0 was used for statistical processing. Results: The average residual amount of dental plaque using the general dentifrice was 11.71% for Perio, 9.45% for Cliden, and 8.47% for 2080, and the average residual amount for the three types was approximately 9.88%. The average residual amount of dental plaque of pregnant women's dentifrice was 13.95% for Jeninmothers, 12.53% for Tntnmoms, and 12.63% for Mommiracle, and the average residual amount of the three types was approximately 13.04%. On comparing the average residual amount of dental plaque between general and pregnant women's dentifrices, it was observed to be 3.16% higher for the latter. However, the results were not statistically significant. Conclusion: According to the research results, there was no significant difference in removal effects of general dentifrice and pregnant women's dentifrice. In addition, when a pregnant woman uses the right toothbrushing method with pregnant women's dentifrice, it can prevent or inhibit the progression of the gestational periodontal disease. Therefore, we recommend pregnant women to use pregnant women's dentifrices.
