On the Carrier Spacing for Mobile Multimedia Systems

  • Previous approaches to sizing the carrier spacing for voice-oriented cellular systems have been based on the outage requirement. However, such a design paradigm needs to be changed as the performance of most upcoming cellular systems employing adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) techniques is more sensitive to throughput than outage. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to determining the carrier spacing which is based on a throughput criterion. The proposed method reflects well the characteristics of throughput-sensitive cellular systems that transport multimedia traffic. Numerical results show that our approach requires less carrier spacing, thus leading to more efficient spectrum utilization.

Terahertz Oscillations in p-Type Quantum-Well Oscillators

  • We have theoretically investigated steady-state carrier transport and current self-oscillation in negative-effective-mass (NEM) p$\^$+/pp$\^$+/diodes. The current self-oscillation here is a result of the formation and traveling of electric field domains in the p base having a NEM. The dependence of self-oscillating frequency on the applied dc voltage is obtained by detailed numerical simulations. In the calculations, we have considered the scatterings by carrier-impurity, carrier-acoustic phonon, carrier-polar-phonon, and carrier-nonpolar-phonon-hole interactions . This kind of NEM oscillator allows us to reach a current oscillation with terahertz frequency, thus it may be used as a broadband source of terahertz radiation.

  • 본 논문에서는 주파수 도약 시퀀스를 사용하는 직교 멀티캐리어 FH/CDMA 시스템을 구성해 보고 지연된 다른 사용자 신호들에 의한 충돌 발생 가능성을 사용자 접속 캐리어 슬롯 수에 따라 변화시켜 가면서 성능 저하에 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 최적의 사용자 접속 캐리어 슬롯 수를 찾아보았다. 아울러 시스템의 TCM과 Concatenated code 기법을 적용하여 BER 성능 개선 정도를 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 평가하였다.

  • This paper suggests power optimization technique in multi-level SCPC system as a method for efficient utilization of limited satellite power. The power optimization is realized by optimal assignment of satellite input carrier powers considering interference and noise generated in up-link and down-link. The Fletcher-Powell algorithm searching minimum(or maximum) point using gradient information is used to detemine the optimal input carrier powers. To apply Flectcher-Powell algorithm mathematical descriptions and their partial derivatives to interference and nose are presented. Because a target, which should be optimized, is satellite input carrier power, amplitude of each carrier group will be assumed to be an independent variable. The performance criterion for optimal power assignmentis classified into 4 categories with respect to CNR of destination receiver earth station to meet the requirement for various satellite link environment. Simulation results for two-level, four-level and six-level SCPC system are presented.

제어기 무장착 운송대를 위한 선형운동 자기부상 운송시스템 (Magnetically levitated transport system for a controller-free carrier)

  • In this work, a magnetic levitation (maglev) system is developed to transport a wafer between semiconductor fabrication process modules in clean rooms to take advantages of eliminating particle and oil contamination that normally exist in conventional transport systems due to contact motion of mechanical components. A main feature of the maglev system developed in this work is that a controller and power supplying part are not mounted on the moving carrier but on the stationary track, which is defined a controller-free carrier, to reduce carrier's weight. Iron-core electromagnets and irons are used for levitation, and air-core electromagnets and permanent magnets are used for stabilization. Analysis, design, and modeling of the magnetically levitated transport system are presented. The performance of the maglev system is experimentally demonstrated.

An Economic Analysis of Transportation Equipments at Container Terminals

  • The motivation of this study is the recent advancement of the Straddle Carrier (S/C). Previously Straddle Carrier (S/C) system was used focusing on container lift on/off due to its lower driving speed than that of (Y/T). Shuttle Carrier is evaluated as an upgraded Straddle Carrier. Recently, however, the driving speed of (S/C) has been improved to the level of Yard Tractor and Trailer systems (Y/T), which is 30Km per hour which makes (S/C) qualified as terminal in-yard transportation equipment. This paper, therefore, aims to evaluate three types of terminal in-yard transportation equipments such as (Y/T), (AGV) and the advanced (S/C) from economic perspective. The results revealed that by observing the total costs of equipment, (S/C) is a cheaper option than (Y/T) over 20 years, and than (AGV) over 6 years.

  • 본 논문에서는 각각 다른 캐리어 방향성을 가지는 strained-silicon PMOSFET에서 소자의 디지털 및 아날로그 성능을 비교 평가 하였다. 캐리어 방향이 <100>을 갖는 소자의 경우 이동도 향상에 의해서 <110> 방향의 소자 보다 우수한 드레인 구동 전류 및 출력저항 특성을 보이지만, NBTI 신뢰성과 소자의 matching 특성은 반대로 다소 열화 됨을 확인 하였다. 따라서 나노미터급 CMOSFET에서 캐리어 방향성을 이용한 이동도 향상 기술의 적용을 위해서는 DC 성능을 비롯한 신뢰성 및 아날로그 특성을 모두 고려하는 것이 반드시 필요하다고 할 수 있다.

나노급 소자의 핫캐리어 특성 분석 (Characterization of Hot Carrier Mechanism of Nano-Scale CMOSFETs)

  • It is shown that the hot carrier degradation due to enhanced hot holes trapping dominates PMOSFETs lifetime both in thin and thick devices. Moreover, it is found that in 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOSFET the PMOS lifetime under CHC (Channel Hot Carrier) stress is lower than the NMOSFET lifetime under DAHC (Drain Avalanche Hot Carrier) stress. Therefore. the interface trap generation due to enhanced hot hole injection will become a dominant degradation factor. In case of thick MOSFET, the degradation by hot carrier is confirmed using charge pumping current method and highly necessary to enhance overall device lifetime or circuit lifetime in upcoming nano-scale CMOS technology.

단일 반송파 전송 시스템을 위한 교번 스위칭 다중화 공간 주파수 블록 코딩 기법 (Alternate Time-Switched Multiplexed Space-Frequency Block Coding technique for Single-Carrier System)

  • This paper proposes an alternate time-switched multiplexed space-frequency block coding technique for single-carrier modulation with frequency domain equalization. The traditional multiplexed space-frequency block coding technique for single-carrier modulation uses multiple groups of two transmitters and suppresses the interference signals of other SFBC groups at the receiver. In this paper, we reconfigure transmit signals to adapt them for alternate time-switched multiplexed SFBC for single-carrier modulation with frequency domain equalization and receiver structures and propose a structure for transmitter and receiver, show that its performance is better than the traditional algorithm by simulations.
