Background: The collection of ovaries from slaughterhouses is an important source of oocytes for in vitro embryo production. On the other hand, the physiological stage of slaughtered females varies and influences embryo production. Objectives: The study examined the in vitro efficiency of embryos and demi-embryos from young, non-pregnant adult, and pregnant adult ewes from a local slaughterhouse. Methods: One thousand three hundred ovaries were collected from August to October 2020. The recovered oocytes were matured, fertilized, and cultured at 5% CO2, 38.5℃, and 100% humidity. Embryo bisection was performed in 96 blastocysts (n = 32 per treatment). The demiembryo pairs were incubated for their reconstitution for 12 h. SAS was used for data analysis. Results: The number of oocytes collected from the experimental group of non-pregnant adult ewes was higher (p ≤ 0.007) than those collected from the group of pregnant adult ewes (2.67 ± 0.19 vs. 2.18 ± 0.15 oocytes/group, respectively). The blastocyst rate was higher (p ≤ 0.0001) in the non-pregnant adult group (36.39%) than in the young (17.96%). The ratio of demi-embryos that recovered the blastocoelic cavity was higher (p < 0.05) in the young group (81.25%) than in the pregnant adult group (59.38%). The diameter of the demi-embryos was higher (p < 0.05) in the non-pregnant adult group (186.54 ± 8.70 ㎛) than those in the young and pregnant adult groups. Conclusions: In conclusion, the in vitro embryo production efficiency was highest when using oocytes from non-pregnant adult ewes under the conditions of this study.
By in vivo labelling of AMHP using[35S]-methionine, fat body culture and immunological analysis, it is proved that Bombyx adult fat body synthesizes 18K and 20K subunits of AMHP and releases them into haemolymph. Also these peptides are assembled to form native AMHP in the adult haemolymph.
This study was conducted to determine the effects of processed tobacco leaves on the development, adult emergence and body weight of the cigarette beetle, Lasioderma serricorne Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Anobiidae) is serious insect pest of tobacco leaves and cigarette during storage. Developmental time, adult emergence rate and adult weight of the cigarette beetle, were evaluated on the cured tobacco and burley tobacco leaves at $30{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ with $70{\pm}5$ % RH under 12L:12D. The developmental time on all of the flue-cured tobacco leaves was about 61 days, but in the only CD3W and CD4TR grade burley tobacco, the developmental times ranged from 70 days to 74 days. Among the flue-cured tobacco leaves, the highest beetle emergence rate was 123 % on the CD3L grade, and the lowest was on the AB4OR grade. Adult body weights of the cigarette beetle reared on flue-cured tobacco were about 2.11~2.46 mg, and on the only CD3W and CD4TR grade burley tobacco were about 1.86~1.96 mg. Among the flue-cured tobacco leaves, the highest adult body weight(2.46 mg) of cigarette beetle was observed on the B1O grade flue-cured tobacco, whereas the lowest adult weight(2.11 mg) was observed on the CD4L grade flue-cured tobacco. The adult weight of cigarette beetle reared on whole meal was 2.04mg.
The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of physical setting of adult day care as a place for the elders and adult and to develop an basic understanding of the architectural program and physical setting for adult day care for the cognitively-impaired in the U.S.A. The data was collected from 13 Adult Day Care Centers(ADCC) from 2001 to 2002 by interview and the documents about those facilities. Physical environment should be viewed as an element in the care of individuals with dementia, and that the principles used to plan and design environment should be consistent with the principles used in providing other aspects of care. The results of the study provided the information about the best condition of physical setting of ADCC for the elderly with dementia. Memory Loss Adult Day Center and St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care have better architectural program than other facilities. It is the hope of this study to provide guideline for design and care professionals with a first draft of a "sense-making" template and to slow own the progression of the disease by the appropriate physical environment.

Adult hippocampal dentate granule neurons are generated from neural stem cells (NSCs) in the mammalian brain, and the fate specification of adult NSCs is precisely controlled by the local niches and environment, such as the subventricular zone (SVZ), dentate gyrus (DG), and Toll-like receptors (TLRs). Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is the main polyphenolic flavonoid in green tea that has neuroprotective activities, but there is no clear understanding of the role of EGCG in adult neurogenesis in the DG after neuroinflammation. Here, we investigate the effect and the mechanism of EGCG on adult neurogenesis impaired by lipopolysaccharides (LPS). LPS-induced neuroinflammation inhibited adult neurogenesis by suppressing the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells in the DG, which was indicated by the decreased number of Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU)-, Doublecortin (DCX)- and Neuronal Nuclei (NeuN)-positive cells. In addition, microglia were recruited with activating TLR4-NF-${\kappa}B$ signaling in the adult hippocampus by LPS injection. Treating LPS-injured mice with EGCG restored the proliferation and differentiation of NSCs in the DG, which were decreased by LPS, and EGCG treatment also ameliorated the apoptosis of NSCs. Moreover, pro-inflammatory cytokine production induced by LPS was attenuated by EGCG treatment through modulating the TLR4-NF-${\kappa}B$ pathway. These results illustrate that EGCG has a beneficial effect on impaired adult neurogenesis caused by LPS-induced neuroinflammation, and it may be applicable as a therapeutic agent against neurodegenerative disorders caused by inflammation.
This study examines the effect of adult-children support network on the psychological well-being of the single and couple elderly households in rural areas. Adult-children support networks include both structural and functional characteristics. For the purpose of this research, 476 participants, who are older than 60 years old, living in rural areas, were selected. The results of this study are summarized as follows: the average degree of psychological well-being of the rural elderly was high. Emotional support from adult children was higher than economic or instrumental support. In the case of the single elderly households, adult children's economic support was the strongest variable affecting the psychological well-being. In the case of the couple elderly households, adult children's emotional support had the greater effect on psychological well-being. On the basis of this analysis, policy implications regarding the single and couple elderly households in rural areas were discussed.
An increase in serum cholesterol is directly associated with high incidences of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and atherosclerosis. Serum lipid profiles are highly dependent on dietary fatty acids and age. The purpose of this study was to examine the age-related effects of polyunsaturated/saturated fatty acid ratios and antioxidant supplementation under the control of the dietary peroxidizability index (PI) value on serum lipid profiles in rats. While the PI level of dietary fatty acids was controlled at 81.22, the P/S ratios of fatty acids were 0.38 and 4.81 (LP and HP). The diets were supplemented with a vitamin E 1000 mg/kg diet and a selenium 2.5 mg/kg diet (LPS and HPS). Female Sprague-Dawley rats ages 3 weeks (young) and 16 weeks (adult) were fed four different experimental diets for 4 weeks. The serum triglyceride concentration of LPS was significantly higher in young rats than in adult rats. The total-cholesterol concentration of LP and HPS were higher in young rats than in adult rats. The high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) concentration of LP, LPS and HP was higher in adult rats than in young rats. The low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) concentration was higher in young rats than in adult rats. T-C/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C ratios were much higher in young rats than in adult rats. In conclusion, P/S ratios and antioxidant supplementation did not affect T-C/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C ratios as risk factors of CVD in adult rats when we controlled the PI value in the diet Probably, the invisible and confounding effects of dietary PI value implicate the beneficial roles of dietary P/S ratios and antioxidants in CVD. Accordingly, controlling the dietary PI value may be advantageous to lower the risk of CVD in adult rats.

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis is chronic eczematous dermatosis which is related strongly to a family history of atopic disease and hereditary disposition. Its threshold of itching is low so that severe itching occurs and causes secondary eczema. Adult atopic dermatitis has mostly severe symptoms and progresses to chronic relapsing. Objective: The purpose of this study was to estimate the efficacy of oriental medical treatment and management on chronic adult atopic dermatitis. Subject: We studied 3 patients who visited Dongguk University Gangnam Oriental Hospital Dept. of Dermatol. with chronic adult atopic dermatitis from August 2001 to April 2002 and were observed for over 4 months. Methods: We treated them with herb-medication, acupuncture, negative therapy, aroma therapy, full spectrum visible ray therapy(by carbon arc) and external application(Jaun-go). We used the SCORAD index to assess the severity of atopic dermatitis. Results: There were 3 patients with chronic adult atopic dermatitis we could check for over 4 months by clinical scoring using the SCORAD system. 1. The grades of the severity of atopic dermatitis were lower only by the oriental medical treatments and management. 2. Intensities of relapse cases were lower then before the oriental medical treatments. 3. The secondary treatment term for relapse cases was shorter then the first treatment term after oriental remedies were used. Conclusion: Considering the above results, more study is needed on the chronic relapse cases with adult atopic dermatitis, the factors of increasing seventy of adult atopic dermatitis, the prognostic factors of adult atopic dermatitis, and the clinical interchange of chronic adult atopic dermatitis between oriental medicine and western medicine.
The Korean Society of Adult Nursing (KSAN) was founded in 1971. KSAN is dedicated to the development of nursing's knowledge base and specifically in the area of adult nursing. Other goals are knowledge dissemination, promotion of nursing research and education, and the encouragement and support of nurse researchers, nurse educators and nurse practitioners through forums fostering interactions. With more than 1,100 active members in 2011, this year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of KSAN by lookingback at our past, living our present, and pursuing the future. KSAN has six branches nationwide and is governed by an eleven board of directors. KSAN's conferences, held two or three times every year, offer members opportunities to share creative nursing ideas. The Korean Journal of Adult Nursing (KJAN), our bi-monthly Journal, provides innovative ideas in the field of adult nursing for our members through peer-reviewed articles. It was launched in 1989, listed in the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) in 2011, and strives to publish the best articles. Each issue of the Journal examines current problems and trends in nursing practice, education, and research. On the occasion of our 40th anniversary, we pledge to continue the development of our society in order to meet the needs of our members, and contribute to expand and extend the knowledge base of adult nursing.
A survey research was conducted for a sample of 306 adult children who have an elderly parent or both parents alive. The purpose of the research was to test a structural equation model which specified the effects of early family relationships on comtemporary relationships and assistance patterns between adult children and their parents. The data were analyzed using EQS for Windows 5.7, utilizing maximum likelihood method. The results showed that early family relationships affected filial concern first, which in turn affected the level of assistance provided by adult children for elderly parents. No direct effect has been found between early family relationships and the level of assistance by adult children for elderly parents. Filial concern was played as an intervening variable. Early family relationships gave no direct effects to adult children's intention to assist their parents. Here again, filial concern was played as an intervening factor. Adult children's intention to assist their parents had not been led directly to provision of actual support to parents by their adult children. Thus, it was identified that intention to support is one thing, and the actual support is another. Controlling for the effects of filial concern, overall, early family relationship patterns gave no differential effects to the different aspects of support provided to parents by their adult children. On the basis of these results, this paper provided both discussions and suggestions for some strategies of intervention in the present family relationships in order for the inter-generational exchange of supports to happen in the future.
