  • In this paper, our proposed system uses the regional Gabor wavelet and Neural Network to implement face recognition similar to human face recognition system, because the Gator wavelet expresses visual recognition system of human mathematically and the regional Neural Network is robust to white noise and partial illumination. This system consists of two stages of building database and recognizing face. One is composed by using the supervised learning of Neural Network. At this time, the Neural Network is applied to the upper and the lower part of face images respectively. The Backpropagation algorithm is used to learn Neural Network. Another consists of calibration of slope of face image, measurement of illumination variant using deviation with average face image and similarity comparison using Euclidean distance measure.

  • The error performance of BPSK and QPSK signals with diversity reception in mobile-satellite channel is investigated considering nonlinearity of TWT (Traveling Wave Tube) amplifier in the presence of AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) on the uplink and downlink paths. It is assumed that the fading on the dounlink path forms a Rician distribution. The Rician distribution is approximated by discrete probability values. The values are firstly found by Classical Moment Technique.

  • This paper presents a new stochastic controller applied on the vibration control system under irregular disturbances based on the mode selection scheme. Measured displacement and frequency characteristics are simultaneously used in designing a mode selecting controller. This technique is validated by applying to the suppression problem of a flexible beam with randomly vibrated circumstances. The presented method, called Mode Selecting Stochastic Controller, uses the frequency measurement of the flexible system based on a Fast-Fourier transformation algorithm. This controller is constructed by combining mode selection method with previous known Stochastic Controller in real time: Numerical simulations and several experiments are conducted to validate the proposed method. The performance of the proposed method is compared with a stochastic controller developed recently. This method was improved compared with previous one.

  • Under special conditions of turbulent wind, suspension and cable-stayed bridges could reach instability conditions. In various instances the bridge deck, as like a bluff body, could exhibit single-degree torsional instability. In the present study the turbulent component of flow has been considered as a solution of a differential stochastic linear equation. The input process is represented by a Gaussian zero-mean white noise. In this paper the analytical solution of the dynamic response of the bridge has been determined. The solution has been obtained with a technique of closing on the order of the moments.

  • In this paper, we propose the modified uniformly most powerful (UMP) belief-propagation (BP)-based decoding algorithm which utilizes multiplicative and additive factors to diminish the errors introduced by the approximation of the soft values given by a previously proposed UMP BP-based algorithm. This modified UMP BP-based algorithm shows better performance than that of the normalized UMP BP-based algorithm, i.e., it has an error performance closer to BP than that of the normalized UMP BP-based algorithm on the additive white Gaussian noise channel for low density parity check codes. Also, this algorithm has the same complexity in its implementation as the normalized UMP BP-based algorithm.

  • In this paper, we study the improved bounds on the performance of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes over binary-input additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels with belief propagation (BP) decoding in log domain. We define an extended Gallager ensemble based on a new method of constructing parity check matrix and make use of this way to improve upper bound of LDPC codes. At the same time, many simulation results are presented in this paper. These results indicate the extended Gallager ensembles based on Hamming codes have typical minimum distance ratio, which is very close to the asymptotic Gilbert Varshamov bound and the superior performance which is better than the original Gallager ensembles.

  • In this paepr, a Wiener filtering method in wavelet domain is proposed for restoring an image corrupted by additive white noise. The proposed method utilizes the characteristics of wavelet transform signals and the local statistics of each subband. When estimating the local statistics in each subband, the size of filter window is varied according to each scale. At this point, the local statistics in each wavelet subband is estimated only by using pixedls which have similar statistical property. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance over the conventional Lee filter with a window of fixed size.

  • Challenges in cognitive radio and tactical communications include recognizing anonymously received signals and estimating parameters in a blind or semi-blind manner. In this paper, we examine this issue for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signaling. There are several parameters in OFDM signaling, and the blind receiver must extract and consider the synchronization issue. We assume that the blind receiver is aware of modulation type, OFDM, and not aware of chip duration and the length of cyclic prefix. First, we present new criteria based on kurtosis to estimate these parameters and compare their performance at different levels of additive white Gaussian noise with methods based on correlation, kurtosis, maximum likelihood, and matched filter. Then, we perform synchronization and estimate the start time based on these criteria and several new criteria in two steps: fine and coarse synchronization. Finally, in a more practical setup, we present the idea of jointly estimating the mentioned parameters and the signal start time as coarse synchronization. We compare different criteria and show that one of the proposed criteria has the highest efficiency.

  • In this paper, to enhance the performance of ${\pi}$/4-DQPSK (${\pi}$/4-differential quadrature phase shift keying), the scheme using nonredundant multiple error correction is proposed and investigated. This scheme for the differential detection of ${\pi}$/4-DQPSK uses the signal output which is delayed for more than two time slots as the parity check bit and applies it to nonredundant multiple error correction. The proposed system was used for studying the performance of ${\pi}$/4-DQPSK with Nonredundant Error Correction (NEC) in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and Nakagami fade modeled mobile communication channel, and it was observed that the performance increased as the error correction capability increased.

  • In this paper, a packet-reduced ranging method using a superresolution time of arrival estimation algorithm for a chirp-based real-time locating system is presented. A variety of ranging methods, such as symmetric double-sided two-way ranging (SDS-TWR), have been proposed to remove the time drift due to the frequency offset using extra ranging packets. Our proposed method can perform robust ranging against the frequency offset using only two ranging packets while maintaining almost the same ranging accuracy as them. To verify the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm, the error performance of our proposed ranging method is analyzed and compared with others. The total ranging performance of TWR, SDS-TWR, and our proposed TWR are analyzed and verified through simulations in additive white Gaussian noise and multipath channels in the presence of the frequency offset.
