We study the space-times that have a unique terminal indecomposable past set or a unique terminal indecomposable future set and examine their causal boundary, and we investigate some conditions for the warped product space-times of the form (a, b) ${\times}_fF$ to have a unique terminal indecomposable past set or a unique terminal indecomposable future set.

In this research the coupling problem between the elastic structure and the fluid, specially the hydroelastic harmonic vibration problem, is studied. In order to couple the domains, i.e., the structural domain and the fluid domain, the boundary integral method(direct boundary integral formulation) is used in the fluid domain in combination with the finite element method for the structure. The boundary integral method has been widely developed to apply it to the hydroelastic vibration problem. The hybrid boundary integral method using eigenfunctions on the radiation boundaries and the boundary integral method using the series form image-functions to replace the even bottom and free surface boundaries in case of high frequencies have been developed and tested. According to the boundary conditions and the frequency ranges the different boundary integral methods with the different idealizations of the fluid boundaries have been studied. Using the same interpolation functions for the pressure distribution and the displacement the two domains have been coupled and using Hamilton principle the solution of the hydroelastic have been obtained through the direct minimizing process. It has become evident that the finite-boundary element method combining with the eigenfunction or the image-function method give good results in comparison with the experimental ones and the other numerical results by the finite element method.

A boundary-based design sensitivity analysis(DSA) technique is proposed for addressing shape optimization issues in the elastostatics problems. Sensitivity formula is derived based on the continuum formulation in a boundary integral form, which consists of the boundary solutions and shape variation vectors. Though the boundary element method(BEM) has been mainly used to obtain the boundary solution, the FEM is used in this paper because this is much more popular, and has greatly improved meshing and computing power recently. The advantage of the boundary DSA is that the shape variation vectors, which are also known as design velocity fields, are needed only on the boundary. Then, the step for determining the design velocity field over the whole domain, which was necessary in the domain-based DSA, is eliminated, making the process easy to implement and efficient. Problem of fillet design is chosen to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method. Accuracy of the sensitivity is good with this method even by employing the free mesh for the FE analysis.
This paper develops a new method for reconstructing neutron flux distribution, that is based on the maximum entropy Principle in information theory. The Probability distribution that maximizes the entropy Provides the most unbiased objective Probability distribution within the known partial information. The partial information are the assembly volume-averaged neutron flux, the surface-averaged neutron fluxes and the surface-averaged neutron currents, that are the results of the nodal calculation. The flux distribution on the boundary of a fuel assembly, which is the boundary condition for the neutron diffusion equation, is transformed into the probability distribution in the entropy expression. The most objective boundary flux distribution is deduced using the results of the nodal calculation by the maximum entropy method. This boundary flux distribution is then used as the boundary condition in a procedure of the imbedded heterogeneous assembly calculation to provide detailed flux distribution. The results of the new method applied to several PWR benchmark problem assemblies show that the reconstruction errors are comparable with those of the form function methods in inner region of the assembly while they are relatively large near the boundary of the assembly. The incorporation of the surface-averaged neutron currents in the constraint information (that is not done in the present study) should provide better results.

A dependable boundary reconstruction technique is proposed. The finite element method is used for the analysis of the direct heat conduction problem to realize the deformable grid system. An appropriate strategy for grid update is suggested. A complete sensitivity analysis is performed to obtain the derivatives required for restoration of the optimal boundary. With the result of the sensitivity analysis, the unknown boundary is sought using the sequential quadratic programming. The method is applied to reconstruction of boundaries with sinusoidal, step, and cavity form. The overall performance of the proposed method is examined by comparison between the estimated the exact boundaries.
The method of Asymptotic Inner Boundary Condition for Singularly Perturbed Two-Point Boundary value Problems is presented. By using a terminal point, the original second order problem is divided in to two problems namely inner region and outer region problems. The original problem is replaced by an asymptotically equivalent first order problem and using the stretching transformation, the asymptotic inner condition in implicit form at the terminal point is determined from the reduced equation of the original second order problem. The modified inner region problem, using the transformation with implicit boundary conditions is solved and produces a condition for the outer region problem. We used Chawla's fourth order method to solve both the inner and outer region problems. The proposed method is iterative on the terminal point. Some numerical examples are solved to demonstrate the applicability of the method.

An efficient boundary-based technique is developed for addressing shape design sensitivity analysis in various problems. An analytical sensitivity formula in the form of a boundary integral is derived based on the continuum formulation for a general functional defined in problems. The formula, which is expressed in terms of the boundary solutions and shape variation vectors, can be conveniently used for gradient computation in a variety of shape design problems. While the sensitivity can be calculated independent of the analysis means, such as the finite element method (FEM) or the boundary element method (BEM), the FEM is used for the analysis in this study because of its popularity and easy-to-use features. The advantage of using a boundary-based method is that the shape variation vectors are needed only on the boundary, not over the whole domain. The boundary shape variation vectors are conveniently computed by using finite perturbations of the shape geometry instead of complex analytical differentiation of the geometry functions. The supercavitating flow problem and fillet problem are chosen to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed methodology. Implementation issues for the sensitivity analysis and optimization procedure are also addressed in these problems.
To the Boundary Scan, this architecture in Scan testing of design under the control of boundary scan is used in boundary scan design to support the internal scan chain. The internal scan chain has single scan-in port and single scan-out port that multiple scan chain cannot be used. Internal scan design has multiple scan chains, those chains must be stitched to form a scan chain as this paper. We propose an efficient Boundary Scan test structure for multiple clock testing in design.
Stability of MBC1, a specific matching boundary condition, is proved for atomic simulations of a diatomic chain. The boundary condition and the Newton equations that govern the atomic dynamics form a coupled system. Energy functions that decay along with time are constructed for both the boundary with the same type atoms and the one with different type atoms. For a nonlinear chain, MBC1 is also shown stable. Numerical verifications are presented. Moreover, MBC1 is proved to be stable for a two dimensional square lattice.
Grain boundary diffusion plays a significant role in fission gas release, which is one of the crucial processes dominating nuclear fuel performance. Gaseous fission produce such as Xe and Kr generated during nuclear fission have to diffuse in the grain lattice and the boundary inside fuel pellets before they reach the open spaces in a fuel rod. These processes can be studied by 'tracer diffusion' techniques, by which grain boundary diffusivity can be estimated and directly used for low burn-up fission gas release analysis. However, only a few models accounting for the both processes are available and mostly handle them numerically due to mathematical complexity. Also the numerical solution has limitations in a practical use. In this paper, an approximate analytical solution in case of stationary grain boundary in a polycrystalline solid is developed for the tracer diffusion techniques. This closed-form solution is compared to available exact and numerical solutions and it turns out that it makes computation not only greatly easier but also more accurate than previous models. It can be applied to theoretical modelings for low bum-up fission gas release phenomena and experimental analyses as well, especially for PIE (post irradiation examination).
