  • In this study, we found that Forsythiae fructus (FF) and one of its main compounds, arctigenin, significantly inhibited nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated BV-2 microglial cells. Arctigenin also suppressed the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2, and inhibited the activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase and p38. Moreover, it also reduced levels of proinflammatory cytokines, interleukin $1{\beta}$, tumor necrosis factor ${\alpha}$ and prostaglandin E2, and inhibited neuronal death in LPS-treated organotypic hippocampal cultures. Therefore, we suggest that arctigenin may confer a neuroprotective effect via the inhibition of neuroinflammation.

  • Objectives : We present some opinions to reduce the risk of herb-drug interactions through scanning "About Herbs" of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Website. Methods : We searched the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Website of About Herbs and investigated herb-drug interactions. Results : There are 237 herbs and 196 drugs on About Herbs. 81.1% of herbs have fewer than 2 interactions listed.: 86.3% of drugs fewer than 3 interactions. Especially, 13 herbs were reported to have interactions with inclusive chemoagents on About Herbs. Only L-theanine has positive interaction with inclusive chemoagents. The others have negative interactions with inclusive chemoagents. 12 single chemoagents were reported to have interactions with some herbs. Especially tamoxifen-black cohosh, methotrexate-glutamin and aldesleukin-Huang Chi have positive interactions to increase the effects of the chemoagent. Conclusions : We should urgently create a risk management system of herb-drug interactions and take note of the risk of herb-drug interactions. We should build up systemic, evidence-based informations on popular herbs used by Korean cancer patients and herb-drug interactions in oncology like About Herbs.

  • Objective : The aim is to derive further studies evaluating the effectiveness of oriental medical treatment on advanced gastric cancer (AGC) patients. We present a case of a stage IV AGC patient who has survived over 8 years. Methods : We followed up all documents related to the patient. We prescribed to the patient HangAmDan (HAD) three times a day over five years. Abdomen CT was performed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy. Results : The patient has survived over 8 years. Abdomen CT has shown complete regression. Conclusion : This case may give us the possibility of that oriental medical treatment offers potential benefits for patients with AGC.

  • 1. Objective This study was conducted to research a corelation between the Sasang constitutions and primary cancer organs in cancer patient with their thermography. 2. Method We Analyzed the thermography taken from cancer patients and compared it with their cancer origins and Sasang constitution. 3. Result It was found that there are some relationships between the cancer origins and abnormal skin temperature. Also according to the Sasang constitutions of each cancer patient, the lesion of abnormal skin temperature could be differentiated. 4. Conclusion Thermogram can be affected by both the constitution and the primary cancer organs of the patient. To utilize the thermography as a diagnostic or prognostic method of cancer, further studies are needed.

  • This study is about the variation types, techniques and live performance of the East Sea Coast Shamanism Gutgury rhythm. This study looks over the East Sea Coast Byeolsingut entertainment holder, Kim Yongtaek's variation and performance types to find the factors for the difference between his Gutguri rhythm performance and Gutguri rhythm performed from other genres. East Sea Coast Shamanism Gutguri rhythms have more variable types than itself from other genres, and use unique techniques. This paper is a study on how these variation types and unique techniques are used in live performance to manage impromptu variation rhythms.
