  • A comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) was carried out for the correlation of the transition state structures and the reaction rates for the SN2 reaction of 4-nitrophenyl benzoate and its sulfur analogs with anionic nucleophiles. The CoMFA analysis showed that both steric and electrostatic effects are important, and the steric contribution increased when nucleophiles are alkoxides or arylsulfides. In this study, we have demonstrated that the CoMFA analysis can be expanded beyond the scope of dealing with reactants and products. The reactant complex and transition state conformations generated along the reaction path can be more appropriately used for the correlation of structures and reaction rates.

  • This paper presents a comparative structural analysis of lattice hybrid tower with six legs with conventional tubular steel tower for an onshore wind turbine using finite element method. Usually a lattice hybrid tower will have a conventional industry standard 'L' profile section for the lattice construction with four legs. In this work, the researcher attempted to identify and analyze the strength of six legged lattice hybrid tower designed with a special profile instead of four legged L profile. And to compare the structural benefits of special star profile with the conventional tubular tower. Using Ansys, a commercial FEM software, both static and dynamic structural analyses were performed. A simplified finite element model that represents the wind turbine tower was created using Shell elements. An ultimate load condition was applied to check the stress level of the tower in the static analysis. For the dynamic analysis, the frequency extraction was performed in order to obtain the natural frequencies of the tower.

  • This study compares various transformation techniques for multifocus image fusion. Multi-focus image fusion is a procedure of merging multiple images captured at unalike focus distances to produce a single composite image with improved sharpness and clarity. In this research, the purpose is to compare different popular frequency domain approaches for multi-focus image fusion, such as Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT), Stationary Wavelet Transforms (SWT), DCT-based Laplacian Pyramid (DCT-LP), Discrete Cosine Harmonic Wavelet Transform (DC-HWT), and Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT). The objective is to increase the understanding of these transformation techniques and how they can be utilized in conjunction with one another. The analysis will evaluate the 10 most crucial parameters and highlight the unique features of each method. The results will help determine which transformation technique is the best for multi-focus image fusion applications. Based on the visual and statistical analysis, it is suggested that the DCT-LP is the most appropriate technique, but the results also provide valuable insights into choosing the right approach.

  • Various studies have been undertaken in order to effectively understand customer requirements. Kano proposed a dualistic approach, physical fulfillment and customer satisfaction, to differentiate Attractive, Must-be, One-dimensional quality attributes. As there were a few limitations on the Kano's method, researchers have proposed improved methods. However, there have been few empirical evidences that the improved methods are superior to the original Kano's method for identifying relevant quality attributes. The objective of this study is to provide a comparative study on Kano and improved Kanomethods based on empirical analysis of quality attributes on University services. For the analysis of the questionnaire formats, the Kano's original 5 scale questionnaire is more effective than improved methods, direct and 3 scale questionnaire. For the analysis of evaluation methods, the original Kano and Timko's method using the evaluation table are more effective than quantifying methods, Domouchel and Lim's methods.

  • In this paper, we proposed comparison of software education units according to 2015 Revised National Curriculum. Comparative analysis of 6 Practical Arts textbooks was conducted especially on the software education units. The analysis criteria were decided to be unit system, unit structure, learning objectives, the way of placing contents, activities, supporting materials, providing resources, and evaluation. As a result, the software education units have secured a lot of quantity compared to the total number of units. And the affective domain of the learning objectives is shown to be lacking. All the textbooks were uniformly arranged the component of contents described in 2015 revised national curriculum. Cooperative activities are strengthened compared to the previouse curriculum. On the other hand, evaluations have a large variation among textbooks and some have fewer types.

  • Three dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationships (3D-QSARs) between new thiosemicarbazone analogues (1-31) as a substrate molecule and their inhibitory activity against tyrosinase as a receptor were performed and discussed quantitatively using CoMFA (comparative molecular field analysis) and CoMSIA (comparative molecular similarity indices analysis) methods. According to the optimized CoMSIA 2 model obtained from the above procedure, inhibitory activities were mainly dependent upon H-bond acceptor favored field (36.5%) of substrate molecules. The optimized CoMSIA 2 model, with the sensitivity of the perturbation and the prediction, produced by a progressive scrambling analysis was not dependent on chance correlation. From molecular docking studies, it is supposed that the inhibitory activation of the substrate molecules against tyrosinase (PDB code: 1WX2) would not take place via uncompetitive inhibition forming a chelate between copper atoms in the active site of tyrosinase and thiosemicarbazone moieties of the substrate molecules, but via competitive inhibition based on H-bonding.

  • In this paper, we compare two EOQ based inventory models under total cost minimization and profit maximization to investigate the difference in the optimal solutions. First of all, optimal solutions for both models through geometric programming (GP) techniques are found considering production (lot sizing) as well as marketing (pricing) decisions. An investigation of the effects of the changes in the optimal solutions according to varied parameters is performed by studying optimality conditions as well as by performing numerical analysis. We then conduct comparative analysis between the models to show the relationships between the optimal solutions of the models where certain conditions in the cost per unit and the demand per unit time are given. Several interesting economic implications and managerial insights are observed from this analysis.

  • The evolution of living organisms occurs via a combination of highly complicated processes that involve modification of various features such as appearance, metabolism and sensing systems. To understand the evolution of life, it is necessary to understand how each biological feature has been optimized in response to new environmental conditions and interrelated with other features through evolution. To accomplish this, we constructed contents-based trees for a two-component system (TCS) and metabolic network to determine how the environmental communication mechanism and the intracellular metabolism have evolved, respectively. We then conducted a comparative analysis of the two trees using ARACNE to evaluate the evolutionary and functional relationship between TCS and metabolism. The results showed that such integrated analysis can give new insight into the study of bacterial evolution.

  • This study has investigated the degree of similarities and/or differences of consumption expenditure styles among the households with different occupation. Two types of analysis were performed. One was comparative analysis which used to identify the changes of consumption expenditure styles among different occupation classes using time-series data of 1977-1996 Korean Urban Household Expenditure Survey and Rural Household Economy Survey. The other was multivariate analysis to investigate the effects of occupation on consumption expenditure styles with 1551 sample household data from 1996 Korean Urban Household Expenditure Survey. The results showed that the differences in consumption styles among different occupation classes including farmers are diminished during last two decades while there still exist some degree of differences in consumption styles. After controlling other socio-economic factors it is found that occupation is a determinant of consumption patterns of urban w ge earners especially consumption for clothing and health items.
