제주신화 서천꽃밭의 생불꽃을 응용한 텍스타일 패턴디자인 (Textile Pattern Design Using Saengbul Flower in Seo-Cheon Flower Garden of Jeju Myth)

  • The purpose of this study is to establish a new method to develop the textile pattern design using Saengbul flower in Seo-cheon flower garden of Jeju Myth, in other words, to create mythic textile patterns by borrowing effectively from the mythic image of Saengbul flower. Seo-cheon flower garden is an incantation space and Saengbul flower means pregnance. Therefore, we drew Camellia flower motifs from a mythic image based on archetypal symbols about the Saengbul flower, and created mythic patterns. In order to achieve this textile pattern design, Adobe CS5(Photoshop, Illustrator) and Texpro were used to design the motifs of Saengbul flower, and then they were arranged in a square pattern and diamond pattern of Richard M. Proctor' set layout. And to conclude, development of the creative textile pattern design using the mythic contents of the Jeju Myth contribute to invigoration the fashion industry and regional culture contents projects in Jeju, and also become the basis of creating added valued to it.

민화 효제도 문양을 활용한 T셔츠의 선호도와 감성 이미지 (Preference and Clothing Images for T-shirts Utilizing Hyojemunja Textile Pattern)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate preference and clothing images for T-shirts utilizing Hyojemunja Textile Pattern. The results of this study showed that the secondary students who participate in the study had low interest in Folk-painting and that the female students were more willing to buy T-shirts utilizing The Hyojemunja Textile Pattern than the others. Secondary students preferred letters-pattern to other ones of T-shirts and they opted for the patterns with black curve scripts and the patterns located in upper parts of T-shirts. However, the participants considered straight scripts more sophisticated, unique and feminine than curve scripts and therefore, this awareness helped them become more interested in Hyojemunja Textile Pattern. The findings of the study may suggest T-shirts utilizing Hyojemunja Textile Pattern can give those who have a low interest in Folk-painting increased chances to learn Folk-painting in secondary education.

원시주의(Primitivism)를 반영한 패션디자인에서의 소재표현기법 연구 (A Study on Textile Expression Technique Influenced by Primitivism shown in Fashion Design)

  • Primitivism is a concept that expresses and organizes natural feelings of human beings which is hard to be identified by a rigid definition. It means "staying in the beginning or the initial state, not evolving or developing, and not affected by human beings from the intact natural state". Based on this meaning, the artistic style features inherent natural beauties, as well as plain and inornate design. These features have been reflected in a variety of art pieces. The aesthetic features shown in the primitivism art pieces can be categorized into four different aspects: naturalness, folksiness, sentimentality, and humorousness. These features, influencing modern fashion, have been reinvented by a number of fashion designers. They also adopted ideas from the fancy clothes and ornaments created in carefree life style of the regions retaining their primitive cultures, such as Africa, Oceania, and Pacific coasts, and applied those ideas to various silhouette, colors, patterns, and textiles. Particularly as for textile expressions, they tried printing techniques using the patterns motivated from primitive folk symbols or the nature, applied objet of primitive materials and elaborated ornaments that represent folk and primitive feelings, and employed the primitive techniques such as knotting, crude cutting, or natural draping, to reinvent them as textile expressions in modern fashion.

남북한 전통의상에 사용된 장식문양에 관한 비교 연구 - 1990년대 중반이후 여성 한복을 중심으로 - (A Comparative Study on the Decorative Pattern for the Traditional Costume in South and North Korea - Focus on Women Dress Since in the Middle 1990s -)

  • This study examined the kinds, expression, techniques and arrangement of patterns for the traditional women's costume from 1995 to 2002 in North Korea. And the results were compared with South Korean. Conclusions are as follows : In the kinds of patterns the natural plant patterns were much more frequently used in North Korea. These tendency was same to South Korea. And the geometric patterns were more frequently used in South Korea. According to frequency in the expression of patterns, it was the realistic, geometric, stylized shape in North Korea. To the contrary it was the stylized, geometric, realistic shape in South Korea. In terms of decorative techniques, not only the traditional embroidery, gold leaf, multicolored stripes, but also modern collages, painting, beads, applique, flounce, ruffle were used in North Korea. Modern techniques were found comparatively a lot in North Korea, traditional techniques were found comparatively a lot in South Korea. In terms of arrangement of patterns, the modern arrangement was much more frequently used. And localized type of modern arrangement was found comparatively a lot in South and North Korea. Therefore traditional beauty was generally expressed by natural patterns, realistic shape and modern beauty was generally expressed by modern techniques and arrangement of patterns in North Korea.

조각보의 면구성과 색채를 응용한 의복의 이미지 연구 (Research on Image of Clothes Applying the Surface Composition and Colors of a Traditional Jokakbo)

  • Through the formative analysis of the traditional jokakbo, we have composed surface composition that was made by a perfect square, triangle, a weather vane type, vertical type, cint$\tilde{a}$mani type, and a mixed rectangular. And we have composed that was made by vivid tone, pale tone, and so on, and finally analyzed image, preference rate of them. First, the cause of composition for the image of stimulant was composed by the cause of simplicity characteristics, interesting characteristics, rigid-flexibility characteristics, and modern characteristics. Secondly, the image of clothes was revealed as a simple image of perfect square, a feminine image of cint$\tilde{a}$mani type, a modern image of mixed rectangular in the case of large pattern. And in the case of small pattern, perfect square was revealed as a simple image, cint$\tilde{a}$mani type was revealed as a feminine image, triangle with achromatic colored weather vane type and pale tone was revealed as an interesting image, achromatic colored and pale toned a weather vane type, vivid toned vertical type was revealed as a modern image. Lastly, it revealed that the preference rate against clothes is related with the cause of simplicity characteristics, interesting characteristics, and rigid-flexibility characteristics in the case of large patterns, and especially in the case of large patterns and small patterns, the clothes of pale tone are more preferred. And achromatic colored mixed rectangular and chromatic colored cint$\tilde{a}$mani type are more preferred by the large patterns, and chromatic colored and pale toned weather vane type is more preferred by the small patterns.

지오매트릭(Geometric) 패턴을 응용한 골프웨어 텍스타일 디자인개발 (Design Development of Golf Wear Textiles utilizing Geometric Patterns)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop golf wear textile design, produce simulation and samples, and create original designs using geometric patterns. Significance: If modern people's trend to pursue well-being is be associated with healthy and active lifestyle and the design which combines a sport sense into artistic image appears in golf wear, it is a very significant effort to settle the role of sport as a mega trend. Contents: This study examined the general concept of geometric patterns and the situation and characteristics of women's golf wear. Finally, the design and simulation of gold wear textile were proposed. Study Instruments: For theoretical research, articles, books, literatures, and Internet materials published at home and abroad were reviewed and collected. For empirical research, a dot, a stripe(a line), a square, and an oval were selected and simulation was tested visually after the development of textile designs. Finally it was directly produced and golf wear design was developed. Photoshop CS 3 and Wacom intuos 3 were used as a general-purpose program and hardware respectively. DTP printing was used for sample work. Based on research results, geometric patterns range broadly and diversely from prehistoric remains and relics to contemporary art, design, architecture, and fashion. It is a unique formative element with value and attraction as the infinite object of inquiry beyond an area and the times. The combination of geometric patterns with art touch could complement the rigidity of design. It contributed to the perception of important role of art in the design area, namely, the importance of design containing artistry.

블록 정합을 이용한 국부적인 직물 구김 인식 (Automatic Recognition of Local Wrinkles in Textile Using Block Matching Algorithm)

  • With the recent outstanding advance in computer software and hardware, a number of researches to enhance the manufacturing speed and the process accuracy has been undertaken in many fields of textile industry. Frequently issued problems of automatic recognition of textile wrinkles in a grey scale image are as follows. First, changes in grey level intensity of wrinkles are so minute. Second, as both colors and patterns in a grey scale image appear in grey level intensity, it is difficult to sort out the wrinkle information only. Third, it is also difficult to distinguish grey level intensity changed by wrinkles from those by uneven illumination. This paper suggests a method of automatic recognition of textile wrinkles that can solve above problems concerned with wrinkles, which can be raised in a manufacturing process as one of errors. In this paper, we first make the outline of wrinkles distinctly, apply the block matching algorithm used in motion estimation, and then estimate block locations of target images corresponding to blocks of standard images with the assumption that wrinkles are kind of textile distortions caused by directional forces. We plot a "wrinkle map" considering distances between wrinkles as depths of wrinkles. But because mismatch can occur by different illumination intensity and changes in tensions and directions of the force, there are also undesirable patterns in the map. Post processing is needed to filter them out and get wrinkles information only. We use average grey level intensity of wrinkle map to recognize wrinkles. When it comes to textile with colors and patterns, previous researches on wrinkles in grey scale image hasn't been successful. But we make it possible by considering wrinkles as distortion.istortion.

한국 전통 꽃문양을 활용한 철릭형 신한복의 3D 텍스타일 디자인 개발 (Development of 3D Textile Design of New-Hanbok Chulic Dress Applying Korean Traditional Floral Pattern)

  • The purpose of this study is to implement the textile design applying the floral pattern shown in Korean traditional fabrics and the New-Hanbok Chulic Dress in 3D through a virtual fitting system. As a research method, first, we analyzed the floral pattern types of fabrics in the literature related to traditional Korean textiles. Second, we developed textile designs of traditional flower motifs using 13 extracted flower types. Third, we applied the floral textile designs to the 3D original form of new-Hanbok Dress produced based on design preference survey results. The findings derived through this study are as follows. First, among Korean traditional patterns, the type of flowers used in textiles were blossom of chrysanthemum, orchid, camellia, apricot, peony, peach, pomegranate, hydrangea, narcissus, lotus, plum, chinese rose, and rosa rugosa. Second, this study found that the value of traditional culture can be further increased by using traditional flower patterns as an infinite source of creative design. Third, it was confirmed that the new-Hanbok can be developed endlessly as a clothing design that combines various morphological modifications and patterns without departing from traditional designs. In the future, if the research on costume design using various items of traditional clothing and the development of textile designs based on traditional culture continues, the development of new clothes design that leads to the development of Korean traditional clothing culture and meets the sensibilities of modern people will be endless.

전통 회 문양과 포 셔닐 텍스타일을 활용한 패션 디자인 개발 (Development of fashion design applying traditional fretwork patterns and Faux Chenille textiles)

  • The purpose of this study is to apply the traditional Chinese fretwork on the 'Faux Chenille' textile work method in a way of enhancing the decorative features of patterns and developing the fashion design. As for the method, it works on the historic background and advancement of the fretwork and it refers to the bibliographies pertinent to the traditional Chinese geometric pattern. The result are as follows. First, pure cotton and 100% rayon are mixed to make it feasible to produce the texture for the material to be tender and enhanced, and in the process of washing and drying the Faux Chenille textile. The Faux Chenille textile is an important material that is required to select materials with great absorption capability as the most effective material to re-visualize the lines and patterns by sustaining the diagonal lines. Second, the fretwork is designed to process the basic formation for 90° angle with the sense of unlimited extensive line and changes with straight line. It has been confirmed that, if the angle that controls the Faux Chenille textile and the tailoring interval are well aligned, the expression of traditional geometric pattern would be effective and it may be expressed in contemporary style. Third, through the fashion design application by utilizing the Faux Chenille textile of the fretwork, it is confirmed that the contemporary application of the traditional culture could be expressed uniquely and creatively while it is affirmed that the western technique and Asian culture can be blended in harmony.

조선시대 직물에 나타난 구름문양의 유형과 특성 (The Type and Characteristics of the Clouds-Shaped Pattern)

  • The clouds-shaped pattern is originated from Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. It stands for good-luck, longevity and productivity. It has been used on its own or with other patterns since the ancient times. It also has various forms. It particularly was used more frequently than any other patterns as a typical good-luck pattern, representing auspiciousness, divine authority, and so on in Chosun dynasty. The pattern, according to its component parts, is classified as individual type and compound type, which is mixed with other patterns such as treasure pattern, plant pattern, letter pattern, or animal pattern. For both individual type and compound type, swastika-shaped cloud pattern was mostly used. For compound type, the pattern compounded of treasure pattern was extraordinarily used a lot. In terms of the arrangement, the most common arrangement methods were brick-shaped arrangement and dense type arrangement, the arrangement method that spreads the patterns all over the surface. Among the fabrics with clouds-shaped pattern, satin damask fabrics had the majority. Clouds-shaped pattern was used a lot in men's Po(coat), such as Dahnryoung, Jiknyoung, Chollik, etc. rather than in women's clothes. It was a typical pattern used in Dahnryoung, an official uniform that represented people in the highest class in Chosun dynasty. The divine power symbol of this pattern indicated the authority and dignity that the upper class people could have.
