This study was conducted to develop a dietary life education textbook and teaching manual for creative activities of elementary school students in middle grade. First, we extracted dietary life related contents from textbooks for third and fourth grade and created systematization of contents involving educational objectives, goals, contents and activities. The development of textbook and teaching manual were based on systematization of contents. The textbook was composed of five major chapters, which were 'nutrition', 'cooking', 'environment and hygiene', 'food' and 'dietary culture'. Each major chapter having six to seven smaller chapters, adding up to a total of 34 smaller chapters. The textbook was in activity format so that can be readily and directly used in actual classes. The textbook had fun characters and various activities (particularly a lot of cooking activities) to deliver the main theme of each chapter. The teaching manual was composed of background, goal, teaching plan and teaching point. The smaller chapters had learning goal, teaching-learning resources, important points, teaching-learning process and reference material. In evaluation after operating the model school, the developed textbooks were suited for students' needs and cognitive level. This textbook can be utilized at creative activities consisting of ten to fifteen students.
The purpose of this study is to compare the elementary science curriculum and textbooks of Korea, the United States, Japan, and Singapore to know how the contents on particulate concept of matter is introduced and expressed. In Korea, particulate concept of matter was adopted as a term for 'molecules' in the 3rd through 6th curriculum, and the term for 'particles' was adopted in the 2009 revised curriculum. In the United States, NGSS adopted the term 'particle' in fifth grade. Japan presented the concept of 'particle' as a core concept of matter in the commentary, and the expressions 'particles' were being introduced in the textbooks. But it did not cover particulate nature of matter at the elementary school level in Singapore. An analysis of elementary textbooks in Korea, the United States and Japan except Singapore showed particulate expressions in 'dissolution', 'state change of water', 'gas pressure and volume', 'combustion and extinguishment' units. Korean textbook was only being introduced in 'dissolution' and 'gas pressure and volume', but in the textbooks of Japan and the United States, water was expressed as particles in 'state change of water' unit. Discussion and implication on the introduction of particulate concept to elementary science curriculum and textbooks were suggested based on the results.

To develop tailored elementary, middle, and high school textbooks suitable for understanding the nuclear energy and radiation, quantitative and qualitative research was carried out in parallel, which included nine steps to ensure the validity of content and structure. The elementary, middle, and high school students wanted to acquire information used in their daily lives, including the definition of nuclear energy and radiation, principles and status of nuclear power generation, and information about irradiated food, medical radiation, and radiation in life. In the evaluation of the effects of textbook contents according to the educational requirements of each school level, high suitability frequencies (>80%) were shown for the human character, education goals, curriculum goals, evaluation method, and education time. At some levels, the high suitability frequencies (>70%) were shown for the education grade, education type, and textbook type.

The purpose of this paper was to compare and analyze the elementary curriculum and textbook integration of social studies in Korea, USA, and England in terms of content integration and to make suggestions for the improvement of Korean social studies curriculum and textbooks. For this study, social studies curriculum and textbooks of three different countries were analyzed according to the three criteria: sequence, types and focus of integration. In this comparative study, five suggestions were made for the improvement of the Korean elementary social studies curriculum and textbooks. First, Korean social studies curriculum should have a subject focus at each grade level. Second, it is recommended that Korean social studies curriculum should present clear interrelations among geography, history, and civics at each grade level. Third, Korean social studies curriculum needs to have diverse criteria on which to select and organize themes. Fourth, Korean social studies textbooks need to have increased number of interdisciplinary large units. Fifth, it is necessary that the authors of Korean social studies textbooks integrate contents in consideration of students' life context in order to raise the relevance of the contents of history and geography.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of learning cycle model on the changes of electricity conceptions of elementary students. Four classes in forth grade of an elementary school in Busan were selected and two of them were served as experimental group and the others as control group. The experimental group were taught the unit of "Light an electric bulb" in elementary science textbook with teaching model based on teaming cycle and the control group with traditional teaching style. The instruction effects were analyzed through pre and post-test results using questionnaire on the electricity. The results of pre-test showed that there was not a significant difference between experimental group and control group at .05 level, so two groups could be regarded as homogeneous. The mean score of experimental group was significantly higher than that of control group on the post-test at .05 level. And within-group comparison revealed that both groups made improvement on the mean score and that the improvement of each group had significant difference at .05 level. Above results said that the teaching model based on learning cycle, which focuses on hands-on activity and considers each student as an active subject, was more effective than traditional teaching style in improving the formation of scientific conceptions on electricity.ectricity.
The purpose of this research was to analyze questioning types of the Korean Elementary Mathematics Textbook in grade 3 and suggest the direction of questioning strategies for enhancing creativity in mathematics lessons. For the research, the researcher analyzed questioning types of the 3rd grade mathematics textbook and the changes of the questions compared with the questions in the previous textbooks. The author suggested the following recommendations. First, the questioning strategies of the revised mathematics textbook tends more to enhance students' creativity than the previous ones did. Second, teachers need to know the students' level of mathematics before starting their mathematics lessons because teachers can provide more effective differentiated questioning to the students. Third, students can response tuned to their level of mathematics if they meet with open-ended questions. It is desirable to develop good open-ended questions to fit students' abilities. Last, teachers should provide opportunities for students to share their own mathematical thinking. In risk-free environment, students can willingly participate at debating over mathematics proofs and refutation. Teachers should make efforts to make the classroom norm or culture free to debate among students, which leads to enhancement of students' creativity or mathematical creativity.
The purpose of this study is to analyze whether the required cognitive levels of the current 6th graders' science textbooks conform to the children's cognitive levels and to examine the students' sensed psychological difficulty of the current science textbooks. The eighty five students (boy: 39, girl: 46) from one elementary school were participated in this study. The results of the study are as follows. First, the 2/3 out of the contents in the six graders' science textbooks require concrete level of operation and the 1/3 out of the contents in the textbooks requires the formal level of operation. So the 70% students at the concrete operational level are likely to undergo difficulties with the 1/3 contents in the textbooks. Second, the students' psychological difficulty on the science textbooks is relatively low (approximately two out of five points) and there is not any special pattern between the cognitive level of the textbooks and the students' psychological difficulty of the textbooks.

The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the application of a creative thinking technique for development on the creativity and attitude toward science of the students in elementary school. In order to better assist students' levels of creative thinking process, creative thinking techniques were reorganized based on the features of creative learning content in science textbooks. Furthermore, related units from an elementary science textbook were analyzed to map out the lesson plans. The findings of the study were as follows. First, the creative thinking technique developed in this study could be applicable to teaching-learning activities. When a creative thinking technique is applied, that should carefully be selected in consideration of all the creativity elements to be covered in class, and that should be used in a manner to be covered in class, and that should be used in a manner to be appropriate at learner level. Second, the utilization of the creative technique turned out to have a good impact on boosting the creativity of the elementary schoolers. Third, the utilization of the creative technique turned out to exert a good influence on fostering the school children's attitude toward science.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the readability of the 2015 revised elementary science textbooks at the vocabulary and sentence levels, and to provide an opportunity to use vocabulary and sentences with an appropriate level of readability for writing textbooks in the future. To do this, the readability of the 2015 revised elementary science textbook was analyzed and the vocabulary and sentence level the readability of sentences defining scientific terminology were analyzed. The results were then compared to the readability of previous curriculum textbooks. The results are as follows: first, the grade average of vocabulary remained at 1.5-2.1, with vocabulary appropriate to the elementary school level being used on average. However, grades 4 to 5 vocabulary are distributed at a relatively high rate. Second, the sentence-level analysis shows that the sentence lengths for the third and fifth grades were relatively long and the percentage of simple sentences was low. Third, compared to other curriculum textbooks, it was confirmed that the proper level of readability was maintained at the vocabulary level, but that the sentence lengths and the percentage of simple sentences could adversely affect the readability of third-grade science textbooks.
