The commercial cermet cutting tools consist of multi-carbide and a binder metal of iron group, such as cobalt and nickel which are ferromagnetic. In this paper, a new approach to evaluate the mechanical properties of TiCN based cermet by magnetic properties were studied in relation to binder content and sintering conditions. The experimental cermet was prepared using commercial composition with the other binder contents by PM process. It was found that the magnetic properties of the sintered cermets remarkably depended on the microstructure and the total carbon content. The magnetic saturation was proportional to increment of coercive force. At high carbon content in sintered cermet, the magnetic saturation was increased by decreasing the concentration of solutes such as W, Mo, Ti in Co-Ni binder. As the coercive force increases, the hardness usually increases. The strength and toughness of the cermet also increased with increasing the magnetic saturation. The measurement of magnetic properties made it possible to evaluate the mechanical properties in the cermet cutting tools.

Model-based inversion tools for eddy current signals have been developed by combining neural networks and finite element modeling, for quantitative flaw characterization in steam generator tubes. In the present work, interpretation of experimental eddy current signals was carried out in order to validate the developed inversion tools. A database was constructed using the synthetic flaw signals generated by the finite element model. The hybrid neural networks composed of a PNN classifier and BPNN size estimators were trained using the synthetic signals. Experimental eddy current signals were obtained from axisymmetric artificial flaws. Interpretation of flaw signals was conducted by feeding the experimental signals into the neural networks. The interpretation was excellent, which shows that the developed inversion tools would be applicable to the Interpretation of real eddy current signals.

The testing tools implemented up to now for the LDAP(Light-weight Directory Access Protocol) interoperability tests are not easy to modify or add new test items since their source codes are not open. The object-oriented approach, therefore, is required to implement such a testing tool which can be easily modified or add new test items. Thus we designed the architecture for the testing tool applying the object-oriented approach. Java language, appropriate for the object-oriented approach, was used to implement the testing tool. The newly implemented testing tool can modify partly to adapt to the already stored data in the test suite information even during tests. Five LDAP servers can be tested simultaneously with the same configuration setup. Actual testing for the two LDAP servers validates the usefulness of the designed architecture with the proper working of the implemented testing tool according to the architecture.
This study aims to validate a web-based neuropsychological testing tool developed by Kwak(2007) and to suggest solutions to potential problems that can deteriorate its validity. When it targets a wider range of subjects, a web-based neuropsychological testing tool is challenged by high drop-out rates, lack of motivation, lack of interactivity with the experimenter, fear of computer, etc. As a possible solution to these threats, this study aims to redesign the user interface of a web-based attention testing tool through three phases of study. In Study 1, an extensive analysis of Kwak's(2007) attention testing tool was conducted to identify potential usability problems. The Heuristic Walkthrough(HW) method was used by three usability experts to review various design features. As a result, many problems were found throughout the tool. The findings concluded that the design of instructions, user information survey forms, task screen, results screen, etc. did not conform to the needs of users and their tasks. In Study 2, 11 guidelines for the design of web-based attention testing tools were established based on the findings from Study 1. The guidelines were used to optimize the design and organization of the tool so that it fits to the user and task needs. The resulting new design alternative was then implemented as a working prototype using the JAVA programming language. In Study 3, a comparative study was conducted to demonstrate the excellence of the new design of attention testing tool(named graphic style tool) over the existing design(named text style tool). A total of 60 subjects participated in user testing sessions where their error frequency, error patterns, and subjective satisfaction were measured through performance observation and questionnaires. Through the task performance measurement, a number of user errors in various types were observed in the existing text style tool. The questionnaire results were also in support of the new graphic style tool, users rated the new graphic style tool higher than the existing text style tool in terms of overall satisfaction, screen design, terms and system information, ease of learning, and system performance.
Pin-on-disk test is a suggested abrasion testing method by ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials). This briefly illustrated the Archimedean spiral motion of a pin type specimen on a disk. To apply this method to rock cutting tools, a constant linear velocity (CLV) is precisely maintained during the test. We defined the two velocity vectors (RPM and horizontal speed) which connected to the resultatnt velocity. We derived a differential equations for the two parameters under CLV condition. It was difficult to find a exact solution. Previous literatures had been reviewed, and an approximate solution was investigated. We mathematically simulated the result for a certain parameter, and examine the accuracy of the solution.
At the University of Western Ontario (UWO), numerical tools represented in semi-closed form solution for the conductors and finite element modeling of the lattice tower were developed and utilized significantly to assess the behavior of transmission lines under downburst wind fields. Although these tools were validated against other finite element analyses, it is essential to validate the findings of those tools using experimental data. This paper reports the first aeroelastic test for a multi-span transmission line under simulated downburst. The test has been conducted at the three-dimensional wind testing facility, the WindEEE dome, located at the UWO. The experiment considers various downburst locations with respect to the transmission line system. Responses obtained from the experiment are analyzed in the current study to identify the critical downburst locations causing maximum internal forces in the structure (i.e., potential failure modes), which are compared with the failure modes obtained from the numerical tools. In addition, a quantitative comparison between the measured critical responses obtained from the experiment with critical responses obtained from the numerical tools is also conducted. The study shows a very good agreement between the critical configurations of the downburst obtained from the experiment compared to those predicted previously by different numerical studies. In addition, the structural responses obtained from the experiment and those obtained from the numerical tools are in a good agreement where a maximum difference of 16% is found for the mean responses and 25% for the peak responses.

Purpose - This research investigates the old marketing mix approach to satisfaction and loyalty from the perspective of research subjects of Samsung brand smartphone cases through empirical testing involving product quality, price, distribution channel variables as antecedent variables. Research design, data, and methodology - This study emphasizes the empirical/quantitative concept by using a survey as a data collection tool. The number of samples used was 179 eligible respondents who used Samsung smartphone devices for more than five years. Statistical testing tools use PLS with several testing stages such as the classical assumption test to the hypothesis testing stage. Results - The nine hypotheses proposed, as many as two hypotheses were proposed, namely intervening relationships involving Price and Distribution channel variables on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Conclusions - Product quality is the essential component affecting customer satisfaction and loyalty while distribution channel is a complementary component that is no less important to measure the extent to which customer satisfaction expectations and customer loyalty are realized for the product quality of the products that have been produced and marketed. The price component is not the only reason to make consumers satisfied and loyal.
Measures are very useful tools for comparing the shape variability in statistical shape analysis. For examples, the Procrustes statistic(PS) is isolated measure, and the mean Procrustes statistic(MPS) and the root mean square measure(RMS) are overall measures. But these measures are very subjective, complicated and moreover these measures are not statistical for comparing the shape variability. Therefore we need to study some tests. It is well known that the Hotelling's $T^2$ test is used for testing shape variability of two independent samples. And for testing shape variabilities of several independent samples, instead of the Hotelling's $T^2$ test, one way analysis of variance(ANOVA) can be applied. In fact, this one way ANOVA is based on the balanced samples of equal size which is called as BANOVA. However, If we have unbalanced samples with unequal size, we can not use BANOVA. Therefore we propose the unbalanced analysis of variance(UNBANOVA) for testing shape variabilities of several independent samples of unequal size.
With the rapid evolution of diagnostic tools, particularly next-generation sequencing, the identification of genetic diseases, predominantly those with pediatric-onset, has significantly advanced. However, this progress presents challenges that span from selecting appropriate tests to the final interpretation of results. This review examines various genetic testing methodologies, each with specific indications and characteristics, emphasizing the importance of selecting the appropriate genetic test in clinical practice, taking into account factors like detection range, cost, turnaround time, and specificity of the clinical diagnosis. Interpretation of variants has become more challenging, often requiring further validation and significant resource allocation. Laboratories primarily classify variants based on the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics and the Association for Clinical Genomic Science guidelines, however, this process has limitations. This review underscores the critical role of clinicians in matching patient phenotypes with reported genes/variants and considering additional factors such as variable expressivity, disease pleiotropy, and incomplete penetrance. These considerations should be aligned with specific gene-disease characteristics and segregation results based on an extended pedigree. In conclusion, this review aims to enhance understanding of the complexities of clinical genetic testing, advocating for a multidisciplinary approach to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective management of rare genetic diseases.
Capture-and-replay technique is a common automatic method for GUI testing. Testing applications on Android platform cannot use directly capture-and-replay technique due to the testing framework which is already set up and technical supported by Google and lack of automatic linking GUI elements to actions handling widget events. Without capture-and-replay testing tools testers must design and implement testing scenarios according to the specification, and make linking every GUI elements to event handling parts all by hand. This paper proposes a more improved and optimized approach than common capture-and-replay technique for automatic testing Android GUI widgets. XML is applied to extract GUI elements from applications based on tracing the actions to handle widget events. After tracing click events using monitoring in capture phase test cases will be created by communicating status of activated widget in replay phase with API events.
